Thanks Kenchan for the video with such a long list of restaurants/cafes for breakfast. Unaware and surprised that there are many options because I tend to book the hotel(s) with breakfast included. Hotel buffet breakfast is sumptuous and heavy with Japanese-styled options which I love to have although it gets a bit uninteresting after a few mornings due to repetition. Suppose the option of eating out, trying different restaurants/cafes and takeout at convenience store is quite tempting. If not included in the booking, hotel breakfast I stayed cost about 1200-1500 yen per person, significantly pricier than those shown in the video. However, I like it when they start at 0630 so I could have an early start with my itinerary. Out of all your smart picks, I tend to favour any of those where they serve Japanese 定食 (吉野家,なか卯, 松のや and すき家). I ate natto every morning at the hotel. I actually don’t like the taste but savor it due to its nutritional value. Lastly, I learn from you how to pick up steamed rice with a slice of seaweed and chopsticks (at すき家)Delightfully admired.

Once again some great tips - Ha, ha. Your comments at Johnathan's cracked me up. It was about 'if you don't want to talk with anybody'. Actually, despite being served by a robot, I do like Johnathan's for a number of reasons. 1. Plenty of space. 2. The clever striped artwork means I can recognise it quickly. 3. Choice of the menu.
Honestly though your recommendations were very good. Thank you.

I found a “brunch” hack if you get up late. Go to Yayoiken chain (ticket machine restaurant), and while the official breakfast items will be disabled after 10:30/11:00, they don’t disable the “Japanese omelette” from the side item menu. I would always go there about noon, and just order two omelettes. Always got interesting looks from the staff, but they were served every time. 😂

Thanks a lot for another great video. Outside of Tokyo, I usually have breakfast at the accommodation. In the Ryokans, I love to try the traditional breakfast and I eat everything (but I dont like natto). Or if I stay in a place like Dormy Inn, I enjoy the buffet, with a mix of Japanese and Western choices.
In Tokyo, I find it a bit more difficult. There, mostly I go for food from the konbini (currypan is a favorite but not healthy choice), or - and I am ashamed to admit it - for McDonalds. Or skip breakfast, and look forward to lunch.

    • @tokyokenchan
      @tokyokenchan  Рік тому

Thank you for watching this video too. I agree, breakfast is paft of the experience at the Ryokans. I usually get breakfast at the hotels during my trip, but if it's a long trip, it might be a little too much to have buffet every morning. I'm surprised convenience store is this popular. Currypan is a little heavy for breakfast but not as bad as Tonkatsu. haha. I like breakfast at McDonalds ! :)

Thank you for showing the different places to eat for breakfast.
i always go for the restaurants that serve rice as it is more filling for me - Nakau, Yoshinoya and Sukiya.
Was wondering why you did not talk about Matsuya, because you talked about Matsunoya instead, which is a restaurant i was not aware of.
Thank you i will add Matsunoya to the list of restaurants to try for breakfast.
For Jonathans I only know the one near Okachimachi station and Ameyoko. Now i know they got more locations.

Thank you for watching. Yes, I think those beef bowl shops are great for what you get for the cost. It might be a little challenging for western travelers as they only serve rice. Yes, you can eat a big tonkatsu form the morning at Matsunoya👍 :)

Hi Ken San, sorry my question is out of topic. I planned for a day trip to MtFuji using highway bus from Shinjuku. Places to visit are : Chureito Pagoda, Honco Street, Oshino Hakai, and Ancient Village Saiko Iyashi-no Sato Nemba. According to you, how should my route be in order to visit all those places efficiently ?

Hi, Sophia san, I was checking about it as I saw your comment in Kawaguchiko video. I cannot give you the right answer or advise you for the specific itinerary, but if I visit the same spots, I go in order of Chureito, Honcho street, Oshino Hakkai, and Iyashi no sato. So from my Kawaguchiko video, add Honcho Street between Chureito and Oshino Hakkai, skip Fujikyu Highland and stay on the bus to Kawaguchiko station, and head to Iyashi no sato. I didn't know about this Iyashi no sato until you wrote me, but it seems it takes 40 min. from Kawaguchiko station. You might want to make sure there is a bus coming back. No.1 is station and No.48 is the Iyashino sato in this time table. bus.fujikyu.co.jp/pdf/rosen/shuyu/green_time_202209.pdf Hope it helps. :)

Be prepared, 400 steps was no joke. Saiko Iyashi-no is quite far from Kawaguchiko station. Expect delay in buses since a lot of tourists would get confuse which stop to get off or which bus to get in. I wasn't able to go to Oishi Park even if I booked the 6 pm train bound for shinjuku.

@@tokyokenchan Thank you for the feedback, Ken-san.
Apparently, I might not be able to make it to Saiko Iyashi-No for the day trip. So I changed my mind to visit only Chureito, Honco Street, Oshino Hakkai and Lake Kawaguchiko.
So I plan to do it in order like this :
      - Arrive at Chureito
      - Walk to Honco Street
      - Continue walking to Shimo Yoshida Station
      - Take the train to Fujisan Station
      - Take the bus to Oshino Hakai.
      - Change bus to Kawaguchiko Station
      Is this correct ?

@@sophiachandra140 Hello. You might be able to walk from Honcho street to Fujisan Station instead of going back to Shimo Yoshida station. It's about 20 min. walk.

Where can i get traditional japanese breakfast? 😊

I think you can find a good breakfast set at Japanese restaurants in the hotels. I think the one you see in Yoshinoya in this video is like the small version of the typical Japanese home breakfast. :)
