The power dynamic in their relationship is so interesting, BinBin holds all the cards despite RenJie presenting himself in the traditional male role. I get the feeling that he's got a lot softer heart than BinBin, and that he'll always give way to BinBin if BinBin pushes him to. But what a lovely boy he is, there's so much warmth in him.

There tends to be a lot more variations in dynamics between gay couples in general, be it gay men or gay women. Partially because we don't feel as much pressure to try to adhere to a norm or set in place idea like a lot of straight people do, because being gay is already seen as "non-traditional". It allows you much more freedom if you feel no need to follow any of these expectations. It's a very heteronormative view to see things by just "traditional male vs female role" or masculine appearing vs feminine appearing partner and let that dictate your assumptions in areas other than just appearance. Everyone is a fully realized individual that wasn't meant to be placed in a box or defined by a word or phrase completely, but this really becomes apparent in gay people because they defy your expectations much more often than straight people, 90% of straight couples you can be sure what their overall dynamic is because most are "traditional" in at least some aspects, but with gay people we are usually much more open to flipping things around every now and then, for many it's an often occurrence. Usually the most popular gay couples on YT are the ones that appeal to straight people most, which is always going to be a couple that emulates what they're familiar with. One more feminine and one more masculine, where their behavior dosen't deviate too far from those set expectations. It's just a mild heads up that this kind of dynamic is much less common in the real world and that these kinds of dynamics get the most views for a reason.
@@AliceBunny05 Actually that isn't my experience as a gay man. The much advocated flip-flopping is something that younger gay people experiment with as they're finding their feet, but long-established relationships do tend to settle down into roles that fit their personalities. Heteronormative is a term used mainly by gay activists, I doubt most gay people use it, most of us just find someone who's compatible and don't get worked up about the roles we adopt with our partner. There's a reason that BL series tend to focus on relationships that look like male female relationships, and that's because the Tops and Bottoms stereotype rings true for so any of us. Every couple is different of course, but nearly all of us were socialised to be straight, and we grew up families where the male female relationship was the pattern.
