- Breaking free the flathead 218 engine in my 1954 Plymouth Belvedere. I was able to remove the spark plugs, and free up a few stuck valves! 3 valves are sticking still on this Chrysler Flathead engine, but we've got some major progress now being able to turn the engine with the starter, and have compression on 3 cylinders!
I bought a '53 Dodge Regent four door this year, 2024
Pretty much a Plymouth from the firewall back, with a Dodge front end sheet metal ... 230-6 flathead, 3 speed manual... Firestone wide whitewalls... Flawless exterior and interior... Guess its time to try posting some clips here on YT ... Best regards ...
Do it!! I'd love to see the videos. I wish there was more flathead content on youtube, especially Flathead 6.
Loving your content! I recently picked up a 1954 Dodge M37 military pickup. I think it has the same engine as yours! I think it's suffering from a couple of stuck valves as well, but it does run but runs pretty rough. Looking forward to more of your content!
Hey thanks!! Good luck on the valves. I did a video on how to get them unstuck, but pulling the head is better for. My engine runs great now, but im going to pull the head anyway to check other things
I knew a guy who would rev up his flathead and drizzle Rislone or Marvel Mystery Oil into the carb. He'd increase the drizzle until he would flood the engine and kill it. Then he'd let it sit for a few days, clean the plugs and it would idle fine. The valves had a chance to seep in that oil and they would run free after the soaking.
Can’t wait for this thing to get running!
Me either!! Maybe this week if I can get the 3 remaining struck valves to move
My name is Gage and I fix everything too
HA! HELL YEAH!!
Dude same!!! I've got a 52' Cranbrook
Dude same! I've got a 52' Plymouth Cranbrook
Stuff non-shedding rope into the cylinder to push a valve back up. And put Marvel Mystery into the cylinders for soaking, and into crankcase, it will dissolve a bunch of old dried gunk.
the rope trick wont work on a flathead unless you know something I don't, but 100% on the MMO soak! I am hoping to get the valves loose this week
See the plugs are Autolite, Chrysler used Autolite ignition components for many years.
You are right!
Kroil Oil is my favorite penetrating oil.
Me too. I ran out, and no one locally sells it. I need to re order online!
marvel mystery oil. works best for me.
I like how you said lone wolf lol
Haha, that's just how life is sometimes.... ;-D
