I think 10+0 is a happy medium. I love your 15+10 vids because you can go in-depth, but you're right, there isn't a ton to analyze when you're facing 600s. I think switching at around 1200-1400 is unlikely to bother anyone.

    • @zanderrox
      @zanderrox 10 місяців тому +5

Yeah, I also feel like 10+0 is the best time format, also because (just like in the 5+0 Speedrun) Danya can focus on the "instinct" part as there is no increment

but 15+10 also means that the 600s will have more time to think (meaning hopefully A LOT less blunders). i don't blame him for not doing it, it must be boring to play, but for us, he could just cut it out. i'm not saying he should do that btw, imo there is no point in playing in this rating at all, especially if he's gonna play moves like 8:23. if you see a 600 playing this move, it's only because he blundered

No it isn’t an happy medium, there should at least be increment

Yeah, it’s very rare that people use the additional time until the 1500s, anyway. 15+10 just results in people with 17 minutes to spare in a completely losing position.

There are people arguing for the 5 minute control - as a side project, it’d be interesting to see you teach intermediate players how to play faster time controls, but that’s what it would be for. 15+10 at high levels is an absolutely unreal format for teaching chess concepts, it is what makes your content LEAGUES better than any resource I’ve ever found on the internet. Puzzles, watching GM games, nothing will come close to simply watching you explain what the important concepts are in depth, because chess is a game that requires this understanding first and foremost.
Others are saying they are “tired” of the old format. As of yet, I think your fans are FIENDING for more games. I must emphasize this - there is NO ONE doing what you’re doing.
If you do do the 5 minute series, please don’t do it at the expense of the most uniquely powerful instructive tool of a GM playing rapid games with the intention of teaching.
BTW, the Kings Indian absolutely rolls kids at the 1300-1400 level. I have a 65% win rate against any non-London 1d4 opening

In the first game the most important, the most instructive move for me was pawn to c3, because (and I mean this honestly) you said so. For me, the biggest block to moving forward in chess was thinking my ideas alternatives to GM plans. It's so very important to deflate the ego and accept that if the GM says so then your move is bad. Deal with it, or quit playing.

3:00 isn't Ng4 obvious and winning? Opens up an attack on the knight and theeatens the dark squared bishop. If the bishop moves you take the knigt. Only other variation I considered Nxc6 Nxe3, Knight takes queen, Knight takes queen with a fork on the rook and white's knight is trapped. I might be missing some tricky defence

I was surprised you traded rooks rather than playing Bh6+ at 7:35, esp since you're always reminding us that alarm bells should ring when major pieces align on diagonals. Not that the outcome was in doubt but I'd rather keep my rook and exchange the bishop for a pawn and a rook if white plays e3 (or win the rook outright if the king moves). You didn't mention the move during the game or the analysis so it appeared that you didn't see it, which seems very unlikely. Perhaps you valued the bishop more highly in that position but if so I wish you had explained why.

Hey, I am definitely no Danya but I do have the exact same reportoire as you at consistently 2100+ rapid (2220 peak). Tiger's Modern by GM Tiger Hillarp Persson really opened up a new world for me when I hit a plateau against e4. The core concept of the super early a6 and b5 throws off so many e4 players and offers really cool attacking oportunities!
And if you want something completely new while still keeping the beloved Fianchetto'd bishop on b7 you could look into accelerated and hyper-accelerated Dragon setups in the sicillian. However people seem to be significantly more prepared vs any sicillians than the modern and so you will inevitably face theory a lot more often.

5/5 blitz would be best for most games for your time and instructional time

It is wild to me how the 600-700 level is almost nothing but a gauntlet of players that play "hope Chess" where they attempt every cheap 4 or 5 move mate in the books while hoping that the opponent falls for it. I'm really glad there is nothing like this in Go.

At lower levels you should really just stick with 10+0 . Only after 1100 should you switch to 15+10 as there is not much to do against sub 1000 players, and you can explain your strategy and still win with 3 minutes remaining on the clock.

I swear folks are silly. Danya should have continued the 5 min Blitz run. It was so fun.

The thumbnail mentions blitz, guessing it needs to be updated now it's a rapid speedrun again.

5 min speedrun would have been great, shame that people insisted on 15/10 when there's hundreds of those videos to look at

I mean if the point of the speed run is instructiveness then I think 15-10 is by far the best.

@@AnkleIsland sure but I honestly think there's just as much to be gotten from rewatching previous 15/10 vids, 5 min would be fresh

You get more thought process this way. Watching 5 minute really limits insight
