I may need to sell a car (THE PORSCHE PICKLE)

- Every Porsche I own has a problem right now. These cars are sucking me dry at the moment, and the thought of selling a car to ease the pain is..in my mind. It has been for some time for various reasons. Watch to the end of the video to see why I may end up selling one of my four cars. I currently have three Air-Cooled 911s and one 912.
In this video you'll see some photos and video of a Porsche 911 Carerra 3.2 liter, a couple long hood porsche 911s, and a 1968 porsche 912.
If you are a somewhat regular working guy and you own even one of these cars, you will know exactly what I'm talking about. Air-cooled porsches have gotten more and more expensive. Parts and labor wasn't left behind when the market on these cars shot up.

Your 'Olive' is my favorite . But I get it with the 912 story . And owning a 3.2 myself I understand your connection with Mister white...It's a difficult dilemma ...

I like them all but I especially like the white Carrara along with the experience of picking it up with your dad. Back in 1988 I bought my dad a 1983 Datsun 280ZX from a customer of mine who was leaving the country, my dad passed away in 2007 and every time my son or I drive the car to this day we think of my incredible dad, we both miss him so very much. Thank you for another great video, don’t stress sometimes things have a way of fixing themselves.

Another great video Michael! I especially enjoyed seeing Kimbo and very nice for you to have the support of your other/better half in the comments as well! If I were in your Porsche Pickle - and I own two, both water cooled - I would sort them in order from top to bottom. Maybe use a grading sheet of some sort (i.e. sentimental value, cash value, driving value, etc.) and see where they all fall out. Include the Mrs. in this too, I think this would be wise. From there if selling is a decision then start from the bottom and work your way up. No matter how this all plays out it looks like you would still be the owner of two Porsches, there is much worse travails than this! I enjoy having two so when one is on the stands and getting some TLC the other is ready to roll. Congrats on the beach community home! I was stationed in both San Diego and San Francisco for a total of about 10 years and enjoyed them both. We now live in the PNW and really love it here! So here's my line-up of your Porsches (for what its worth) - Top to bottom - the White Carrera (you and Dad, main reason), Olive (best future investment), Tangerine Machine (yes you've done much but you'll never lose what you've learned) and at the bottom Lime Green Targa (a Targa just aren't my thing). There you go, best to you and yours!
If I were in your shoes Olive & Tangerine would be keepers and the Carrera & Targa would go on BAT with reasonable Reserve’s. If keeping only ONE it would have to be Olive. Money in the bank and a totally sorted Olive makes the most sense.
Those are probably the two I’d keep if I end up with 2. I don’t think I’ll ever list a car on BAT. Thanks for watching!

Tough choice for sure. Can't believe the officer didn't get that you needed to give the car a shakedown to make sure everything was copacetic. Warning warranted vs a ticket. Good luck with them.👍
I tried that and he didn’t care. I’ve never gotten a warning from a cop. 4 cylinders only haha
Great video. And what a decision to make. I think the first thing to do is to understand why you think you need to sell one or two. If money or time then ok. Otherwise delay and think about it. For me the white and the olive makes sense to keep. List the other two. Good luck with whatever you decide.
Thank you! Money is certainly playing a factor since they all need one thing or another. I'm OCD and feel like I need to fix anything and everything all right now. Truth is, I could leave a car or two on the sidelines for a few months while I catch my breathe. I'm in no rush, I've put too much into each car to do anything rash. Again, thanks for the input
Hi Mick, Agree on the 3.2 Carerra. being a bullet proof 911!
People sleep on the 3.2 carerra because they don’t have the longhood look. If you’ve driven both enough it’s obvious which is the better driving car. No one would argue that the 3.2 isn’t bullet proof either. Thanks for watching
If I were in your shoes, I would keep Olive and convert it to ITB fuel injection and keep the 912 as-is. The first to go would be the Carrera then the Targa. Finish the Targa and if it's what you envision it to be, then sell Olive. I'm willing to bet that Olive would bring the most money but that's because it's the most desirable. Keep in mind, I know my opinion is not even worth 2c. LOL

I find the G50 transmissions sluggish and less visceral then a well sorted 915. After all the 915 was in the '72 carrera rs.
The g50 is not sluggish 🥸 that’s for sure. Maybe you drove a really poor one. A 915 with a wevo or short shift kit is a lot smoother.
Sell the green one, catch your breath and see if selling the white one is necessary/ still makes sense to you.

Damn, that is a hard decision....but I would let go of the Targa. Maybe you could do a rental of the Carrera to bring in some money....
The targa is like the little brother to the coupe, sorta why I like it. 😬 I’d never rent a car that I owned. Maybe a trailer, but never a car haha

Keep the 912 and Olive. Carrera is easy to replace and a Targa is fine but not as enjoyable to own.

@@michaelgideon6422 they leak in the rain, cowl shake in hard cornering, they are a little louder for sure but that does not bother me.

What was wrong with the fuel system?
Some wiring to the fuel pump was cleaned up. Hopefully that solved it. Seems like the pump may have been getting an intermittent connection

@@michaelgideon6422 i sold my 69 912 to buy a 53” coupe. Then I traded my 67” deluxe VW bus for a 73’ coupe. I will most likely never sell either of them but it took me to get rid of two to get what I really wanted.
@@imagearchy4782 I remember now. You’ve got two great years. Your 53 is a big project if I remember right. Sometimes you play musical cars to figure out what’s best for you. I haven’t figured it out yet
@@michaelgideon6422 it’s a major project but nothing I can’t handle. Good luck with your decision. I have sold a few other cars to invest and it has pays off pretty well for me. If you need to get rid of a few and know you can find another with a good investment, go for it. If you don’t think you can replace it, hold. It will take a lot for them to fall in value.
I say get rid of your targa. And buy my vanagon.
