The situation was managed in a very bad way by the zoo, but the visitors were also so stupid. That animal could be extremely dangerous.
I saw another video of this just before he escaped and it looked like he was getting beaten up by the other monkeys. Why so many lingered with their children is beyond me.
So sad to see how many people with little children just standing around, potentially putting these kids in serious harm way, had the mandrill decided to attack. The teeth grinding is a warning sign before a wide yawn to back up. Even the elderly in wheel chairs should have been slowly removed. what the heck is wrong with these people? Why not push the drill back in with the pole and pull up the chords he used to climb out with. Man....
Poor thing. He doesn't know what to do. He probably wants to go back in his enclosure but there is no way for him and the keepers to communicate each other's intentions.
Hello K. Frost The keepers put a wooden strip over it. But the mandrill didn't accept it. First had to be very sure that the other monkeys couldn't get out. A return to family would have ended fatally after the lost ranking battle for the boss position.
After about an hour on the tree, the monkey swam back through the water into the enclosure.

It looks like a very small zoo and I wonder why they didn't close and tell people to leave? The mandrill could have been sedated and relocated. Sad story!
For Germany, it is a medium-sized zoo. Unfortunately the zoo was
overwhelmed with this situation. But also the visitors have behaved
incredibly stupid. Pregnant women and children in the 1st row. As if
the Mandrill were a cuddly toy. When the Mandrill was not visible in
the tree and the staff went off demonstratively, all passersby had
disappeared in 2 minutes. After about half an hour the Mandrill has
jumped back into the enclosure by itself. The zoo was very lucky that
day.

I don't understand there isn't more action taken from the zoo, both to send people off and more effort/equipment to get the animal back (lack of protocols! A fishing net and a bin. for real?).
It's good that people stay calm but it's a wild animal and yes they underestimate what damage the animal can do (you should see the teeth) and how easy it can go in full attack mode. Children shouldn't be anywhere near.

The zoo didn't do well there. The zoo's entire staff has run for cover. Not even assigned a zoo employee to direct people through the ring-tailed lemur enclosure. It would have been easy to avoid the place.
Hard to believe that the passers-by realized that a mandrill is not a cuddly toy. You rarely see the teeth of the monkeys. You can't keep up with a Mandrill for strength either. Some even wanted to walk past the mandrill with their dogs. I just stopped it.
Then children and women in the first row that was really crazy.

I can't believe the stupidity of these people just get in the way and attract the monkey to baby meat.
Charla Nash got her face nawed off by a monkey and this size Mandrill can puncture a child's rear skull with its twin fangs like butter killing the child instantly! If I saw a Mandrill walking outside its enclosure you bet me and my family with 2 kids would be in the parking lot getting the fuck out of there!
The zoo staff were outsmarted at every turn. The staff seemed to have only the most feeble attempt at returning it. This could have been over a long time ago. Also..the staff made no effort to calm the Mandrill down by lip-smacking. The guy with the net could have defused the situation a long time ago if he had known how to do the vocalizations and lip-smacking. Lip-smacking will help to calm down almost every primate you can think of, at least a little.
Am I the only one who feels sympathy for this animal? Lived his whole life in confinement, the only one to take a leap of faith. It’s clear he seems to know the keeper wants to force him back. Climbing that tree seems like a last refuge, anyway possible to extend his freedom

Absolut richtige Vorgehensweise. Keine sinnlosen Fangversuche, das Tier in Gehegenähe halten und warten, bis die Betäubung kommt oder das Tier von alleine zurückgeht.
Nervig sind die ganzen Schaulustigen, die die Gefahr unterschätzen und offensichtlich keinen Wert auf ihre Finger und Gesichtshaut legen. Die hätte ich mal als erstes verscheucht.
Zooausbrüche kommen nicht oft vor. Sollen die für jedes Tier eine antrainierte Einfangtaktik haben?

Trying to catch the Mandrill with a net??? Don’t be stupid these guys have huge K9’s. I would just get him some food they eat and entice him back to the entrance of his enclosure. Or dart him to sleep.

The catch attempts were not exactly professional. The tranquilizer gun first had to be brought from a distance of 30 km. But then it was not to be found in the tree above. Staff is then opposite. Mandrill no longer visible in the tree. The passers - by then quickly disappeared . Monkey back on the same way as out. After about 30 minutes. Greetings Klaus
Die Betäubungsspritze hat nicht getroffen .Der Mandrill flüchtet darauf noch höher auf den Baum und damit außer Reichweite Die Tierpfleger sind dann gegangen . Und die Zuschauer haben sich darauf verstreut . Nach etwa 1 Stunde ist er von alleine ins Gehege zurück gesprungen

Die Zuschauer sind wirklich strutzdumm! Anstatt weg zu gehen, damit die Mitarbeiter des Zoos ihre Arbeit erledigen können, stehen sie rum und rücken noch näher ran.

Ich glaube da kam keiner der pasanten auf die Idee das der Mandrill kein streichel Tier ist.. Nach dem vom Zoo keiner kommt und die Leute wegschicken oder durch die Katta Anlage schickt.

Tja ,solange man die Tiere aus einer gewissen eingesperrten Distanz begaffen kann ist alles gut und man macht sich streckenweise darüber lustig, aber WEHE so ein Tier bewegt sich ausserhalb seiner Gefangenschaft, steigt die Panik!!

Tja Im den Fall war die Panik aber auf einen sehr geringen Stufe .Außer bei dem Video wo der Ausbruch selber drauf ist . Da meint man kurz King Kong persönlich bricht aus .
Aber es stimmt der Mandrill war zum Glück von der eigenen Courage überrascht . Durchs Wasser geschwommen und über das Stromkabel geklettert .

The zoo behaved very badly there.
The enclosure itself is deliberately not 100 percent escape-proof. The mandrill can panic out. Without escaping he would have been killed by the other monkeys after a losing ranked fight. The old boss died a week before.

The handlers only seemed to aggravate him with that net. I hope and pray they now have tranquilizing guns on hand now, even though this mandrill was confused, yet calm, things could have been much worse... .... all he really wants to do, so it seems, is go back into his enclosure where his family is. I think he fight is now over lol.

Die einzige schlaue Idee vom Zoo ist passiert . Nach dem der Mandrill nach dem Fehlschuss noch höher den Baum rauf ist ,, Darauf at sich Tierarzt und Personal zurückgezogen , CDie Zuschauer haben sich danach ganz schnell verstreut . Nach 1 Stunde ist der Mandrill von alleine zurück ins Gehege gegangen .

Er ist nach dem verloren Rangfolge Kampf von den anderen Affen nicht mehr akzeptiert worden . PS ohne flucht hätten ihn die anderen Affen getötet Chef

Hallo Nikodemus Nach dem der Betäubungspfeil daneben ging und der Mandrill darauf hin außer Reichweite des Blasrohres geklettert ist und auch von den Zuschauern nicht mehr im Baum auszumachen war, haben Pfleger und Tierarzt Ihre Sachen gepackt und sind gegangen . In kurzer Zeit waren alle Passanten weg . Nach etwa einer Stunde ist der Mandrill von alleine wieder zurück ins Gehege . Der Mandrill musste später in einen anderen Zoo abgegeben werden weil er sich nicht mehr in die Gruppe integriert werden konnte . LG Klaus

Da hat das Konzept mit dem Gehege wohl doch nicht so gut geklappt sollte man sich gut überlegen wie man so ein Gehege erstellt
Hallo Bakelove . Nicht wirklich . Gute Gehege bei nicht hoch gefährlichen Tiere sind so gebaut das das Tier in Panik raus kann . Leitaffe ist vorher verstorben . Danach hat die Rangordnung im Rudel neu festgelegt werden müssen .Wenn er nicht hinaus gekommen wäre , hätte das Rudel ihn getötet . Zur Beruhigung der Öffentlichkeit oder Aktionismus wurde noch ein E Kabel drüber gemacht , der aber auch Problem los übersprungen werden kann.LG Klaus
@Klaus Wojtek Aber Affen sind durchaus in der Lage Menschen zu töten und teilweise auch sehr aggressiv!
Man hätte wenigstens den Zoo räumen müssen (teilweise wahren sogar kleine Kinder in der umgehenden Nähe des Affens).
Und ein Betäubungsgewähr wäre auch nicht viel am Platz gewesen.

Löwe wäre natürlich ein anderes Kaliber. Aber die Kraft eines Mandrill etwa 7 mal stärker als der Mensch und auch das Gebiss ober und Unterkiefer haben je 2 Dolch artige Zähne. Wäre der Mandrill auf Angriff Modus gegangen.......

Ich fand es halt krass das Kinder und Schwangere in der 1.reihe gestanden sind. Glaube kaum das sich jemand über die Gefahr im klaren war. Manche wollen sogar mit dem Hund vorbei .Die habe ich durch die Katta Freianlage umgeleitet Zoo hatte die Kattas reigeholt aber nicht umgeleitet durch das Gehege

After the tranquilizer dart missed. Monkey sat high on the tree. Has the staff gone . The crowd quickly dispersed. After 30 minutes aleone's monkey returned to the enclosure.
