Correction on the budget vote: the Center party didn't vote together with the opposition, they voted on their own budget proposal, which is customary to do when you aren't a part of the government. The opposition budget passed since it had more positive votes than the governments. The center party would have tipped the scale towards the government's budget but voted on a third, independent option instead.

The fact that C voted on their own budget doesn't really matter as budgets are voted on 2 at a time and not a 3 way split. But they did abstain their vote in the final matchup. Which is commonly done when voting on your own budget. This budget is also only a framework of where money goes.

These lines in the sand needs to be dropped. The left party (V) effectively cooperated with SD to force out Löfven in june. I didnt vote V or SD but good on them for doing what they think is right. This would've been impossible to imagine before. Until Dadgostar took over, V was definitely the "most anti-SD" party, now the Greens and the Center party (C) seem to have taken over the torch. I might be wrong but I assume most people want their vote to have as much influence on politics as possible - in practice, not symbollicaly!
If C just stopped talking about "not cooperating with extremists" and rather made a deal with V, we would have a functioning government running on their own budget (well, mostly, lol) until the next election.
If the Greens just... Ceased to be, yeah that'd be great.

    Couple of corrections:
Stefan Löfvens resignation was far from unexpected. He has been the leader for the social democrats for almost a decade and the party wanted a change. This would also give Magdalena Andersson experience as PM before the election. The social democrats has historically had between 40-50+% of the votes but the last elections has given only around 20-30%.
The political landscape has been tested thoroughly as the Swedendemocrats got over the 4%-limit 2010. They were seen as radical and extreme by all other parties even though they got around 20% during the election 2018. This forced the very unstable January-coalition between the Social democrats, Green party, Liberals and Centreparty with backing from the left party in order to keep Stefan Löfven as the PM. However, the Liberals and the Centreparty are rightwing on the spectrum and was promised by Löfven that the left party wouldn’t get any influence. This last year however, a new block has been formed by the Moderates, Christdemocrats and Liberals with backing from the Swedendemocrats which ultimately ends the January-coalition and the goal of keeping Swedendemocrats out of influence.
Governing with an oppositions budget has been done before in these uncertain times, however this is the first time the Sweden democrats has been giving influence in that budget. Because of this, the green party left the government as they are very keen to show distance to the sweden democrats.
Great video however, love to see stuff about Sweden!

    • @munkensvrede3332
      @munkensvrede3332 2 роки тому +7

@@tdkyt46 Whoah I never called the Centerparty far right? The centerparty has its roots in the farming community with a lot of focus on helping small businesses outside of Sweden’s largest cities. Their main coalition partners during the last decades has been the “right block” containing of the liberals, moderates and christian democrats and haven’t been keen at all to cooperating with the social democrats. They have instead been pushing for more outsourcing of state-owned services to private companies - a big no no for the swedish left block. So even if they’re called centrist they’ve really been leaning to the right quite hard in the last decades.
However, as they are the only right-leaning party alternative left if you don’t want to support the sweden democrats influence, they find themselves alone in the middle. Too right-leaning for the left but still no urge for cooperation with the right.
It’s worth mentioning that the political spectrum in Sweden is very leftist when compared with other countries. Sweden’s right block is by far more leftist than the most left-leaning democrats in the US. This is mostly due to almost half of a century with a social democratic majority parliament in the 1900s which transformed Sweden from a straight up poor country to one of the most prosperous in just a few decades.
With this in mind, the centerparty seems right wing, though with international context they’re to the left.

That is one of the most stupid analogies I have ever seen. Starting with that "pro-aparatheid" isn't a mainstream political or philosophical system and that, no matter what their name is, VPK hasn't stopped being communist. One would only have to read briefly in the party program to understand that.

A few errors: the Left and Centre parties weren’t part of the coalition government, they supported the Labour-Green policies in parliament but didn’t sit in the government. Moreover, the opposition budget is drawn on top of the government’s budget, ie the government’s budget is the blueprint and then the opposition makes changes reflecting issue priorities. On the whole, only a relatively small portion of the government’s original budget was amended in the shadow budget and so for Andersson, governing on the shadow budget doesn’t present a huge political problem, especially with the Greens out of government as the most controversial change in the shadow budget is lowering of petrol and diesel taxes. Andersson may represent the Labour/SocDem party but she’s widely regarded to be a technocrat rather than an ideologue who leans to the right on economic matters.
In my opinion, this will be a good outcome in the end: a clear majority of the Swedish electorate is on the right side of the political spectrum but the majority of voters also lack confidence for the Sweden Democrats. Now, moderate Andersson representing the de facto establishment party will govern on a budget that represents the issue priorities of the electorate. No one wins but no one loses either, except the Green Party who no longer can hold the country hostage with their insane beliefs. It’s a solution that perfectly reflects the Swedish “lagom” ethos.

Graphics wise though, I've noticed a few errors. C did not vote for the opposition budget, as the graphics indicate. L was at this time no longer part of a passive supporter branch, but separate and uncooperative. They were called the communist party for close to 70 years. In addition there are still a lot of people in the party who still consider themselves to be communist.
In contrast, According to Expo, it is generally agreed that the Sweden Democrats has never been a Nazi party. although some of the SD's early members had previously been connected with Swedish fascist and white nationalist groups. All of which have left or been kicked from the party.
So, calling the left party Ex-communist is correct since the party for most of its history was communists. While calling the Swedish Democrats ex-Nazis isnt since they were technically never a "nazi party". I guess you could call them a Ex-Racist party. Although that wouldn't make much sense since the modern day Sweden Democrats have barely any connections to the old Sweden Democrats.

It's more complicated than that. Cooperation between unaligned parties has been a sensitive subject ever since the December Agreement, even though it's still happening. The December Agreement lead to a lot of concessions that effectively made it so the ruling left-wing parties couldn't introduce any decent policies which they got chewed out for, and then the supporting centre-right parties got chewed out for supporting a left wing government. So all political action basically stagnated due to there being no unified path in the government and everyone having difficulties getting a majority vote for anything. So now parties are very careful of blindly supporting other parties that they are politically unaligned with. A burned child shuns the fire, as we say in Sweden.
