Yes you can get the correct tool for unscrewing the housing cheap enough on E-bay etc...... note you need a 14mm thin wall plug socket to change the spark plugs

If you push that perforated tube part, it's spring loaded. Maybe that is the pressure relief valve. The bottom part that unscrews is just so you can drain the housing before removing it, if you want to. I hope your video has prompted people contemplating this oil change to equip themselves with the correct tool for a few quid!

Yeah you are right if you are going to keep a motor for a few years and let’s face it that’s why people buy Toyota’s…. It’s a wise investment recently I bought one for my son’s 520d BWM they have a plastic lid on the filter top side of the engine which will unscrew with big water pump pliers but the tool is £7 off eBay…. He’s going to run the car as long as possible….. so worth it….. cheers….Trevor

Excellent video mate - you've helped me a lot.I recently went and bought the stuff to service my 2010 Yaris. When I opened the box containing the oil filter I expected it to be the cannister type. I was then advised that I'd need to buy a special tool for removing the filter housing. No way!... Most of the time, I won't buy specialist tools, I'll try and find a way around the problem. So ... when I found your video I was so pleased to see that you were using a screwdriver and a mallet. I'd thought of this myself but was worried I might damage the housing. Now that I've seen you do it, I'm OK with the idea.
I did look on e-Bay and there are special tools for the job, they cost about £5 - £10. 'Coz they're quite cheap, I'll probably end up buying one for next time - I don't want to damage the filter housing! Anyway, once again, excellent video - concise and to the point, without any waffle or stupid background music!

The temporary plastic nipple is for the initial drain of the oil. Never used but simply discard either way.

I bought the correct filter removal cap wrench for about £5 (internet). Needs to the the exact one as There are several that look similar. This is 65mm 14 flute, and has H901 stamped on it and 65p14 inside..also fits 2015 Auris petrol. So easy with 3/4 drive socket and no damage.

Thanks for that I’m a keen fan of the old KISS principle “keep it simple stupid” so I try to keep things straightforward.... the correct tool is worth buying if you’re keeping the car for a bit.... with regular oil changes yer average Toymota will last well.... Cheers Trev

Also the plastic tool supplied with that kit you have is if u want to release oil BEFORE removing the whole filter cap, just remove the press relief cap and screw the tool in ..it will force the valve open and allow oil to drain out ..or just remove the whole filter like u did.

Thanks for the video! Do you know if removing the oil filter there is enough space to remove the control arm bushing bolt?

Hello Matteo Thank you for your kind comment.....to be honest I don't know all I can say is if your working under the car and are changing the control arm or bushings might as well change the oil while your under there.
better than lifting up the car a second time... even more so when winters here..!

Hello there I have had a look at a couple of oil companies web sites Shell, Castrol, etc and they all come up with a wide range but this was searching using the UK registration Number.
the temp in the UK tends to be in the -6/8 C in winter and max of about 30 C in high summer we use 5W30 full synthetic mainly.....or 10W40 Semi. But I would ask your local Toyota dealer....... All the Best ....Trevor

Is this perhaps a 1.3 engine ? ( denoted by the 1NR engine code ). I have the exact same engine but I am struggling to get the correct oil filter tool

My apologies - I see you managed to tap it out. There are tools for this job but I wanted to see if it was possible to tap it out like you did and you confirmed it is possible, although not ideal. I am going to have a go in the morning. Many thanks from South Africa

Hello....Your right it is a 1.3L it's the father-in-law's....he always said it's a 1.4L wrong! better edit the Video! your right hitting it off isn't ideal....but most average mechanics don't buy tools like this for ever car they work on they wouldn't make any money....experience to know when you are hitting something too hard takes well experience....

@@jetblack11td just a quick update and great news as tapping it out worked but it was slightly stressful. I would have never thought about tapping it out if it were not for your video ( the tool is quite expensive). Anyway i am going to order a cheap Chinese version online for next year but that will take 3 to 5 months to arrive but I was in a hurry as the service was overdue. Thanks, u saved me some money.

Pressure release valve...? For an oil and filter change? Then you say, "Your guess is as good as mine". Question; Do you think you should be doing a how to video when you don't know what you're doing yourself?

    • @jetblack11td
      @jetblack11td  4 роки тому +2

Well my friend what I was referring to is most can type screw on filters, have a pressure release valve in the bottom of the the filter... if you look you can usually see the spring in the bottom, the idea being if the filter blocks up the valve opens and you still get oil flow around the engine...unfiltered oil is better than none...don't you think?

  • @rogerthomas4590

That pressure relief valve thing is the only thing I managed to remove, would have hope the whole thing would come out but I guess the mallet is gonna have to come in here ..
