Hello Great trip! I am slightly confused by the way the boat is rigged, eg at 2.55 in the film, blue and white is the mainsheet, but what are black and white spot, pink and red lines? Cheers

Thank you! The black line and pink line are the reefing lines. On my Wayfarers I keep these lines running inside the boom, but on Jeremy's boat these run externally, hence why you can see them. The black one is hanging down because my gloves were attached to attempt to dry them!

@@WayfarerAdventures Aha! Wick to mShetland by yacht would be a series undertaking, so an impressive trip. Cheers.

What a wonderful and challenging adventure, great stuff. If I might suggest....propelling the dingy with one oar can be done quite easily using a canoeists J stroke, or sculling over the bow.

Terrific video. You told the story artfully and compellingly. As experts, the two of you executed an ambitious project with a lot of style.

A great adventure - did you do all nav by gps? We’re you wearing immersion suits… I’m assuming you had a outboard as a back up.
Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures.

Thank you! GPS was the primary nav source, keeping the position logged on the chart every hour or so in case it fell through (we had Navionics as a further backup). We wore offshore foul weather gear. Breathability is quite important on those kind of trips (as was evidenced by the foul state of Jeremy's boots at the end!), so we like breathable fabrics with lots of layers to adjust underneath. We both had drysuits in case of very bad weather but didn't have to use them which was an indication of the conditions we had! No outboard either, hence the importance of tidal planning. We had two long paddles and between us the boat would get going at about 2kts but this wouldn't be sustainable for more than 20 mins or so. We set off being quite certain of the forecast, and quite happy to just drift if there was no wind.

@@WayfarerAdventures great info… we were out for a short coastal sail at the weekend and discussing the need for an outboard and/or use of oars… and we too were discussing the joy of “not rushing”… as when there’s no wind if you’ve an outboard it’s easy to say “let’s just get going”…
Did you have nav lights for your initial 30 hours? Or just use a torch on your mainsail?

@@sailinghiggy10 No worries! Yes, we had a battery powered LED device which was hoisted on a stick above the top of the mast. Regardless of its effectiveness, we didn't operate on the assumption that anyone would be able to see it!
