- This is a brief film shot with our wonder Volvo XC90. A car that's part of the pedal loud fleet which we really really love. Great driving dynamics. Lots of character and superbly designed for the needs of the modern family. Quite simply it's brilliant but is it a Bond car??

I was looking for a safe, sturdy first car and this was it. At 232k miles now it still runs fantastic and looks amazing inside.

I just bought this same model and can say it's the smoothest car I have ever driven, turbos spool beautifully, drives very well in the snow and has a great stock sound system.

My 2004 XC90 FWD with the 2.5 turbo gets about 17 mpg, combined city/highway.
No complaints. Solid, reliable, quiet and comfortable.

@@damos_cars When I replied, I had just bought it. I've owned it about 14 months now.
I've never really been obsessed with fuel economy -- if the car/truck/SUV suits me, I just drive it and feed it as necessary.
The car fits me like a glove, although the 7 seat capacity is way overkill.
Can't imagine ever a case where more than one or two other people will be riding.
I also deal with fear of a breakdown/failure as the Volvo dealership would shamelessly have their way with my wallet if I let them.
Labor and parts costs are obscene,
Getting only one keyfob when I bought it, I wanted to get a spare. No one can furnish one, (program it), except Volvo -- and they want $400.00.
I'll need a driver's half-shaft eventually and can only imagine, (nightmare), what Volvo would charge for the shaft and labor.
Eeek! May be it would make more sense to just use it until it dies? Accept the car for what it is and enjoy it while you still can?!
@@damos_cars Exactly my thinking. Even considered towing around its replacement (a cheap Toyota?) wherever I go as not to be stranded when it gives up the ghost. That way, I'd be the one having the last laugh, leaving the dealership with one last sucker to milk.
Maybe even drag the carcass to the dealership lot with a sign on the windshield: "Thanks for the memories -- I'll buy another car for the cost of the repairs".
I just bought one at an Auction. Best car ive ever owned. 114,000 mi. Only thing wrong is it needs oil change..flush, and shocks on back. The best car ever!!

i was working for volvo when these were about. Remember when it snowed had loads getting stuck and coming in as the splines on the transfer box were stripped and only running in 2wd oblivious until they got stuck in the snow haha

fab review from Pedal Loud with added fun of words and attitude. I loved it and went out and bought an xc90 after viewing this video. He is correct it's not so much a head turner but somehow it fits in everywhere I go. Got the diesel version and still visit the fuel station often. It must be a Volvo thing! lol

How much liters takes for 100 km in the city,im thinking to buy an xc90 also 2.4 d5 diesel , on description writes that consumes 10 liters on a hundred in the city,but its hard to believe it.
Love my 2005 xc90 2.5 liter is bulletproof.
550000+kms and not a spot of rust. Going for 1 million.

I had an 04'FWD,XC90.Ran great,about 20mpg hwy?200k miles(clock),100k on replacement engine.Problem?;Poorly designed sunroof drainage system.Apparently,there are water drain"tubes"that clog up over time,and water accumulates UNDER BOTH FRONT FLOORBOARDS!!😳It could be heard sloshing around!😱.And there's lotsa of WIRING down there!!That's ok,cuz I only paid $4k for it.We Drove it for a year;Then someone turned left in front of me(into me!),from a non turning lane,damaged my front fender.Their insurance co gave me$1500.Then,I gave the car to my parents,and DAD TOTALLED IT!(Flipped it!).😐Sunroof drain issue SOLVED!!
I had the same sunroof issue. Actually used Draino to fix it. Got that idea from UA-cam.

I've had my '04 XC90 for about a year and a half and have mixed feelings.
Love many things about it -- the ride, handling, creature comforts etc, but being a realist, I cannot ever get away from my fear of an unexpected repair.
Or, God forbid, a breakdown and tow to the nearest garage -- where they would likely have plans to stick it to me.
Go anywhere near the Volvo dealership and you better hold onto your wallet.
Costs of parts are ridiculous, out-done only by the labor costs.
Equipped with the 2.5 Turbo, the car is truly under-powered -- and the fuel economy sucks, (15 town, 18 hwy).
At 188K, I'll likely drive it until it needs an obscenely costly repair.
I only paid $2,500 for it, and a major repair would quickly turn it into a donor car.
Also, the KBB or NADA value is shameful.
Yeh, they're lovely cars. I agree though, avoid the dealerships. At that age and mileage, stick to a Volvo specialist and like you say unless you really love then the next possible big bill it'll be time for someone to bring a trailer! Thanks for watching.

Hi, no longer the owner. Not sure if its still on the road. We actually swapped the wheels out when we had it as the split rims got very corroded.

How is the reliability? I have a 98 V70 non turbo and have heard endless information from volvo enthusiasts telling me do not get P2 as their transmissions, angle gears, and gauge clusters go out along with constant electrical problems.
This video is a few years old now. Back when we had it it was fine although the diff was starting to whine a bit. Now, I think you probably would need to be eyes wide open!
How reliable is the t6 because I HEARD they are to avoid.
Propshaft, whining diffs and chocolate gearbox. Mine was ok in the time we had it. Although the diff was a bit restrictive by the time we came to sell it. Pays your money, takes your chance. Do your research and buy wisely. 👍🏻

I’m thinking of buying the 04 t6 one .. been rolling 142915 miles (converted from 23k Swedish miles) , looks new and they want €4.500 for it.. does that sound reasonable?

sounds like the garage has run out of fuel lol.. D5 is also fairly thirsty for a diesel maybe a combination of Weight + gearing, 5 cylinders and AWD or just more accurate fuel computer compared to other manufacturers which read too high for mpg

Sidestep is not a factory thing for Executive .. a dealerthing or a thing done in GB .. but not Volvo factory

I have an OCT 2014 XC90 D5 AWD EXECUTIVE in white w. black/light brown interiour .. seats, wood, etc.
JESUS!! I would kick that 6'er out of that engine bay asap.
I can do 24 mpg (imperial) in city .. (wife even more 😇) and at straight, flat line highway about 50 - 51 mpg!! at 90 km/h.
Yes coming into the mountains ... I just close my eyes or click off the display 🤣😂 .. but I have done just a nutch over 1.100 km on a tankfull diesel! (68 ltr).
And a superb car! I'll not give it away for anything. As soon as you learn it's good and bad sides, it's "easy peacy japanesy" ...

What's your favourite feature of the Volvo XC90? Would you rather have an XC90, ML series, X5 or Range Rover?
Pedal Loud XC90 is as large as you want in a parking bay compared to Range Rovers and ML are probably too expensive. The thirsty XC90 is rock solid on motorway gallops and the D5 diesel 185 sits in the power sweet spot of torque between 60 and 80mph..it is also handy being high up so I can look down at various rif raf in their little Fords and Picasos as I tootle past them whilst planning the next ovetnight fuel stop

How does it drive?
@@damos_cars it drives pretty nice. The first gear its very low and has a lot of torque and then i stay in 6 gear at 120-130km/h 2200-2300rpm. The R its next to 6 gear and you can get it only if you drive less than 2-3km/h.
@@damos_cars now I have 334.200km. But no 4x4... I broke it when I was pulling someone out of ditch becouse of the high torque in first gear.

I don't believe Jared's use of the word "depressing" properly describes you, Pedal. Low-key for sure, a bit reminiscent (in my opinion) of the humble, quiet resolve characteristic of archetypal WW2 -generation Britain, dare I generaliz(s)e. In your case the quiet is peppered with cautious, understated humor (humour) which may go undetected by any lower-wattage bulbs in the pack. Our friend Jared, to his credit, picked up on said humor (humour), so hopefully his depression was short-lived. Enjoying a new (to me) 2010 XC90 3.2 AWD here in the states. Interestingly, it features the step rails as the one in your video; 9.5 out of ten I see don't have that option. I've always wondered why Volvo nixed the "Cross Country" nomenclature on most of the XC models (XC stands for "X-Country" I believe). That lent a more rugged image to the marque in my opinion, although I'm not sure just how off-road capable these things really are. I was surprised to encounter an actual steel skid plate on the front end of mine while fitting a license plate to the bumper. I saw it but just assumed it was plastic ! At least I know I can clobber a tree stump or a rock really good before it impales my oil pan further in. Doubtful that off-road tires would become this vehicle, but part of me yearns to know what those would look like on it....

It's meant to be a light hearted, irreverent, slightly acerbic view and the quite poor fuel consumption. If you fail to see that then maybe look down the back of the sofa.
