How to Analyze a Sonnet | Annotate With Me

SSonnets, or 14-line poems written with a specific meter, are a popular style of poetry for students to analyze in English classes. In today's video, I'll explain the differences between two different types of sonnets (Shakespearean and Petrarchan) and identify the key elements that make a poem a sonnet.
Together, we will annotate "the sonnet-ballad" by Gwendolyn Brooks step by step. You will learn how to approach any sonnets by analyzing key components such as structure, rhyme, rhythm, poetic devices, diction, and tone. At the end, we will identify three key themes discussed in the poem.
