  • Architect Hakan Elevli has had the opportunity to be involved in the creation of the first contemporary Australian mosque.
His intention was to build something very different; an inclusive, beautiful and organic space. He wanted the mosque to be open to the outside so that people could see what is happening there without really worrying about what is going on in this space.
But building a contemporary mosque meant that it still needed to have part of it that represent Islamic architecture. So Hakan Elevli thought about adding 96 lanterns to the roof that let in the natural daylight. The lanterns permeate different colours, Islamic colours, through the natural daylight and reflect them on the carpet.
Let us know in the comments what you think about his creation!
