You know what the absolute best part of this is? The fact that you have people doing high-profile, mainstream stuff right next alongside people doing creator-owned, indie stuff.
How cool is this?? Love seeing all these amazing creators under one roof. I did this many years ago with some close friends of mine trying to create our own characters and books. I can't tell you how much I loved the creative vibe we would all get from each other as we stayed up til 3 or or 4 in the morning drawing, talking comics and listening to music. I miss those days dearly, so I thank you for sharing this with us!
As an artist This was super lovely to see! Just a bunch of creative people with passion for comic making together in one place working on their projects, love to see it!
Being able to work with people with the same profession, the same minds and same vibes are just one of my dreams! I wanna be a manga/comic creator someday and you guys ignited my fire a lot more for art!
Wow, it’s awesome to see so many talented people in such a comfy, laid back environment! It’s also super cool to see Vana in the wild, I’ve been really impressed with his stuff so far. ❤

This video surprised me. I mean, you have a whole staff of different artists gathered in one place, but everyone draws something different. Including personal work. I always thought that people only go to the offices for one common project and... it's cool, to be honest, to be in a circle of people like you, but to be able to live your own project!
Before COVID hit, I was a freelance designer/developer, so, I was used to working alone or remotely, then after COVID hit, my work slowed down and I had to get a job. After joining an ad agency, I went to the office for like 3 months then it was announced that we could now work from home or remotely, so, I basically went back to how my life used to be before COVID, only now I have a boss.
look at those huge desk and T-squares. Reminds me of the days at SVA. Tens years after graduation, Some of my classmates don't get to do comic or art full-time. Neither do I, after failing to get my work VISA, I went into graphic design for years, doing mediocre work, absolutely miserable, and now I am hanging on the outskirt of illustration, trying so hard to get in full-time again.
well ok maybe not so miserable... I was also in grad school learning communications design theory, pure theory and no skills, which didn't help me land any jobs in the first few crucial years but it started to pay off at the age of 31.
I wish I had a studio like that :c too bad I live in a different country and have no money. Very cool and very warm video. I did not expect to see so many great artists there! I am reading Once Upon a TIme and I love stuff Steve Lieber produces! This is honestly insane
Oh to be that young again, with that kind of energy and drive. Takes me back to the days in the early 90’s when I was a colorist with a comic book publishing company. We were all in over 20’s and staying up to all hours trying to make our deadlines fueled on high octane spanish coffee!
Lol we do this in Japan with my friends, we have our own different series, instead of competing for the monthly rankings we encourage each other. This is so wholesome, i miss my friends.
Ugh! I miss this type of environment, harken back to my days at the Kubert school. Lol, I miss drawing comics too but I'll watch you guys until I can get there again
@@Captain_MonsterFart Technically, I've done some pin-up work but went into a different direction. However, I've used other skills like storyboarding and just sequential/narrative art an animation too. I'm still planning on doing self-publish work someday. With all that said the friendships and the experience can't be beat.
Thanks for asking! Back in 2002 when we formed the studio, several of us spent a few weeks going through real estate listings and walking through office buildings with "for rent" signs. As for how we afford it, we have several dozen members, many of whom have been working full-time in comics for decades. When you split the rent between 30+ people, the monthly expense isn't too bad.
@@SteveLieber this is so weird meeting someone online you only knew as a name on the cover. Hi Steve! Your work on Superior Foes and Civil War Frontline was great!! ^^
@@looniemoonie5955 Thanks! Being part of this studio was a huge help on both of those books. When you need a model to take a pose to sketch from, it's great having other cartoonists around who know how to exaggerate their gestures.
This looks so cool! This would be my dream comics work. How I imagined it to be when I was a kid wanting to be comic artist.... Unfortunately its usually nothing like that. These guys are really lucky to have found this place :)
How can I join this group of talent? I believe I’m very talented and am a self taught artist out of poverty. I’ve worked on my art since I was 9 yrs old and have struggled through hardships but my art has gotten me through it. Art is the only thing that ever took me out of my reality and made life a bit more worth living. How can I get in touch with this group?
Is this work place for multi artist create a different comics? Which mean if I make my own comic at the same I can see other artists progress in their own storytelling? I'm so confused...
I need a group like this so bad. I’m tired of working alone.
It really makes this isolating profession more bearable!
Me and some friends are trying to start an animation company but the group isn’t solid yet. We need to recruit more artists
Are you an artist? I’m a writer and I’ve been looking for someone to pair up with in pitching and creating comics if you are interested?
you and me both
@@TheLuisberg we got this! Btw Erb, Critical role and Jeremy Jahns?! You got good taste!

That working environment is a dream I almost never thought I'd ever see realized. This hits a solo artist in a deep personal level. Great video

A studio of comic book writers. I love it. I can feel their creativity 😊❤️
You are living the dream guys!
It’s so nice to see Erika Moen again. Strip Search was great:)

Is this the same Erika that used to post on the 'PantsPressSektchBlog' with Jake Parker and had comics published in the 'Flight' series?
The coolest group work environment that there could ever be.
its nice to see professionals using good old Pen and Paper

The fomo is strong! It's so great to have that environment to make awesome stuff! Comics can be really lonely.
It really feels like a lifesaver most of the time to have the social aspect!

I feel ya, Erika! I'm 53 and doing my first professional comic strip and sometimes (most of the time) the technology aspect drives me nuts!
So cool and inspiring! Always great to see other artists in their natural habitat 😎✨☕️
I recently subscribed, and I'm so happy you posted!
Yaaaaay! Thanks for subscribing!
I totally thought this would be a normal thing growing up. It's like the old school studios. This needs to come back everywhere.
so refreshing !!
Super jealous, this looks so great. Looking forward to more vids!

Yesss, always a treat to see a new Helioscope video!
You are amazing!
Thanks for sharing 😃🙏🥰 great to see backstage
Are these the people responsible for derailing the comic book industry?
I was thinking the same thing, man....
YASSSSSS!!!! This is like a glimpse inside Disney Studios!!!❤️❤️❤️😆😆
I really liked this video. Please make more. It's always fun getting to see artist work together.
The way I screamed "OMAC!" at the end
This is so wholesome, inspiring, and funny. I really love the passion and sense of humor here.
I love ❤ this studio setting ❤ thanks 👍
this is so cool to see. Rooting for everyone here!
Special shout out to Paul Guinan and Aztec Empire!
Looking good, gang.

This is so awesome! I love this!
this explains the current state of american comics
What explains it? It’s corporations that has pushed comics in the way they’ve gone, not some small freelance studio.
Thank you. Very inspiring to me. I am just getting back into my art after a long long long time of not drawing.

No one is ever going to get artblock in that kind of working environment. Amazing!
Just come across this, excellent, more of this please.
Where do I sign up. Wanna really be in the graphic novel industry.
That’s what I’m saying bro me too , I wanna get in the studio and get some drawings going
Love it! Keep up the fabulous work.
Very cool! Its funny to me to see all these artist seated at large drawing desk, but all they have on them are their laptops! lol. Times have changed.
Amazing!!!
you guys are so awesome! I will do this too one day
Wish I had this kind of environment. Have fun guys!
This is so uplifting!
Nice. Hope to see more upclose interviews and their works.
That Upstate comic sounds intriguing gonna go for it.
that looks like the best dang work environment in the world
I hope to see myself one day work with you guys
I miss drawing. May get back into it. This was different and fun to watch. Watching others struggle with ideas made me feel like it's ok.
The idea struggle is an every day thing! We feel ya.
Love this! Wish I were 40 years younger and with you there! What a lot of people you got. All you need now is a studio cat.

Imagine visiting biggest comic studio in multi $trillion nation and asking them what are they doing just to get a respond of "I don't know??"
Nice one!
awesome. Looks like a nice group of people.
Dam I wish South Africa had studios like this.
Look at all that magic!
This is what a dream office looks like
This bodes well!
This is so freaking cool!!!
Question, what are preferred drawing angles among the artists?
Do you mean camera angles when drawing comics? Or do you mean table slant angles while drawing at desks?
table slant angle while drawing at desks. height, and angle.@@helioscopepdx6666
Damn, Upstate sounds like a real funfest(!)
You know what i love the most about this? Its okay to NOT have a plan. You're just in the studio trying new shit. Exploring ideas.
Very Very Cool.
How do find the space for something like this? How do you afford a space like this?
Rich parents 😊

Is that THE Erica Moen of OJST?
It’s is indeed! She’s been a long time member of the studio.
I'm working on this great new comic called "N.O.Y.B"!

It's a shared workspace. Everyone is working on their own projects for their own clients!
@@SteveLieber wonderful!
And the first artist says "I don't know who OMAC is." 😬
Would think it would be hard to get much done with so many people there.
I hope working at studio
How can she not know OMAC
