What a difference 32 years can make, I'm jealous they got to experience Bradford while it was somewhat nice! I was born in 95, would have loved to experience this.
The pub over the road from the college is no longer there. A convenience store now. Thanks for uploading this, always fascinated to compare towns and cities today to decades ago.
Brilliant video here thank you so much for uploading this to UA-cam it is nice to see what Bradford was like 30 years ago obviously it has incorporated a lot of change over time and many of the old buildings have gone completely. But it is nice to see what it was once like also Bradford City Park was much different then as it didn't have the mirror pool like it does now also it is nice to see the Yorkshire Rider bus services at 05:4905:50. I also like the parts at 03:47, 03:48, 04:4604:47, 23:2423:25, 23:39, 23:40, 23:59 and 24:00 It is a shame that you didn't visit The Kirkgate Shopping Centre Bradford - Shopping Mall back then as it would have been nice to see what it looked like in 1990.
I don't know those people and I don't care who they are but I love the way this kind of videos make me feel; like if I were in the past!, thanks for uploading it!
Great video, brought back lots of memories. When you entered Bradford college i was hoping you would have gone left down the stairs to the canteen, I might have spotted some familiar faces. Thanks AAA
Ah, The Manville Arms. I remember it well. We used to go over from the Randall Well building at dinner break for a pint or two. I was about halfway through my apprenticeship when this was filmed. Thanks for posting !!!
I used to skate Bradford center in the early 90s, this video brings back memories of all those old shop fronts and the red bus shelters. it used to be like a ghost town on a sunday, the main library and the police station/law courts were all very popular skate spots. there was also a lot of other good places as well, the ncp car park, the c&a curbs and the mighty t&a banks to mention a few!!!
Bradford is a top class city with lots of amazing things to see and do plus a wonderful packed calendar of events throughout the year. It is also stunningly beautiful in November when they have the switch-on of Bradford's Christmas lights and the start of the popular late-night shopping evenings. The Kirkgate Shopping Centre also adds that extra bit of Christmas magic to the festive season for little ones when they can pay a visit to see Father Christmas and for older children and grown-up's with their gift wrapping service.
Thanks for this video, really brought back some memories. I was 12 when this was filmed. I was thinking it would be Rocks Off that you probably went to before I watched the video, used to go in there all the time.
Great video, brought back lots of memories. When you entered Bradford college i was hoping you would have gone left down the stairs to the canteen, I might have spotted some familiar faces. Thanks AAA
A lot has changed since I last commented. The college has been completely rebuilt, the Oaslter Shopping Centre is going to be redveloped into flats, the Kirkgate Centre is going to be demolished and the Broadway Centre was finally built. The department store was the former Sunwin House. I used to work in the Co-op supermarket in the basement of that building in the late 80s. I suspect that the "wool musem" is either the Industrial Museum or possibly the British Wool Marketing Board.
The building to the left at about 4:20 (The Alexandra Hotel) was demolished not long after and is now a car park. Provincial House was demolished in September 2002. John Street Market has been redeveloped and is now called the Oastler Shopping Centre (I don't know why). Shame about Rocks Off. There's another record shop nearby (Discovery) that's still going. I was doing business studies at the college when you shot your video. It was day release from work on a Thursday. All I've got to show for it is a BTEC National Certificate. Where is the wool museum? I was working in the wool trade back then. I noticed that Dolly the sheep put in an appearance, lol! I'd love to go back and take a GoPro with me to get some footage.
Christmas is captured at Kirkgate Shopping The festive season is in full swing at Kirkgate Shopping with a range of activities running throughout December, for all the family to enjoy. Santa Claus is back in Bradford’s only free grotto until Christmas Eve. Children can visit him throughout this month and enjoy the interactive scene outside of his home in the upper mall. Additionally, children still have time to post a letter to Santa before Christmas and receive a personalised response. People are also encouraged to donate to Kirkgate Shopping’s foodbank appeal through the charity boxes outside of Santa’s grotto. For the 29th year Kirkgate Shopping has worked with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Bradford on its annual Secret Santa appeal. More than 6000 gifts were donated to children less fortunate this Christmas by the Bradford public amounting to approximately £50k. Catherine Riley, centre manager at Kirkgate Shopping said: “The Christmas period is something that we truly look forward to each year. Our annual traditions are recognised by the Bradford community and kicking off our celebrations with the Magical Reindeer Parade gets us in the festive spirit. We’re celebrating our 29th year working with JCI Bradford on their Secret Santa Appeal and it is a great feeling to know we have gifted thousands of children with items they may not have received otherwise. “Christmas can get expensive and it’s lovely seeing families give back where they can. We like to help out at Christmas by offering excellent deals from our retailers and a free Christmas gift wrapping service to make the festive season that little less stressful” Kirkgate Shopping has extended its opening hours for the Christmas period, full listings can be found at www.kirkgate.co.uk/visitor-information/opening-hours/
Photography museum brings back so many memories. It’s very different now but I remember all those exhibitions very well
