Tumbao with one conga is important to learn, especially for the street percussionist who can carry only one conga on the road. Or for the small acoustic band, where the percussionist do not want to bring too many instruments, and want to vary from conga, bongo, to cajon for each and every song the band want to perform in the small restaurants, lounges, or coffee houses

Would be nice if you did a series on playing different rhythms just on one drum.

One conga rocks. I play djembe so one drum makes a lot of sense to me. The tumbao with the variations at the end, man I could listen to that for hours. Much appreciated Maestro.

Thank You so much Eric! These videos are very inspirational! I'm actually going through your (and others) lessons, after playing solely "by ear" for years. My playing has improved 10 fold, thanks to you and some of the legends like Dandy Rodriguez, Eddie Montalvo, and Jimmy Delgado, and Bobby Sanabria, etc.

Great video Eric! Even older school - try with no left hand marcha/manoteo whatsoever, only a palm bass tone on the left hand. Leaves a lot of space. I sometimes do that also when playing Rumba Columbia....gives it more oomph!

My first conga was an lp carabie conga before moving on up to LP Aspire congas then moved onto a second Aspire conga & turned into goodwill thrift store my LP carabie conga for someone that can't afford to buy a quality conga drum.
That conga let a lone a travel size I think of the carabie conga. It sounded good but didn't go with my aspires on how much I tuned the carabie conga. Now that I use LP Giovanni galaxy congas with LP Giovanni galaxy bongos my LP Aspire congas sound good, but want better quality since my playing as improved thanks to you man!

Thank you very much for the great video. I have a question. Is it better to get a quinto or a conga when getting that one and first drum (to expand the bongo setup)?

This is the first video that I really like from you. I don`t like that you never explain context. It's like "play this exercise (although I don't remember actually using it anywhere )". So what would be the point? Most of conga tutorial never explain context, is it for intro? is it for salsa? is it for timba? does it match cascara? do you play it for mambo or for son? Or probably your tutorial are intended only for intermediate players? Cheers, man. I dont mean any offense, it's just my feeling. Thank you
