If you entertain into fly fishing specs. A great battle head to head is my favorite. 30 lbs v2 . 7,6 (m,h) or light . st croix mojo in seafoam boat butt stock. The winning ticket is you have to sand down finish the grips.then compare the 2 side by side .fly fisherman's hand needs that + notice shimano hook keep placement at times👍. Perfection.
Great info from the voice of experience. Looking forward to the remainder of the series. And most importantly you said the all-important, attention-grabbing word: Tarpon!
Whats the advantage of the heavy rod over let’s say a rainshadow rx7 12-20# that would have a softer tip and perhaps be more ideal in terms of casting distance with the various light presentations. I’m in the process of spinning up a few different blanks for tarpon specifically. My thoughts are that the lighter blank would have significantly more bend at lighter drag pressures and I was thinking that extra bend would transfer more of the load of a jump or head shake into blank versus ripping it off the reel suddenly making the drag smoother. I don’t get to chunk baits at tarpon as often as I would like so I don’t get the hands on experience so I apologize for asking so many questions haha. I Enjoy the videos thanks for all the information! Good stuff.
Hey Capt, can you tell me what are we supposed to do on our end with the rod when the Tarpon jumps? New to fishing and getting ready for my 1st Tarpon trip! Thanks for this amazing video.
I think I have forund a few parts on this Tarppn series, at about 11:00 in this video you mention another vidieo will be coming on Lures.. can you update/reply/post a lint to this one ?
Which do you like better? The 7'6" with a 6000 or the 8' XH with an 8000 reel? I know that 8000 size reels jump up 6-8oz in weight. But I think the 8000 size rig would be better for snook/grouper in passes around bridges. Also, do you think the 7'6" Heavy casting model would pair well with a Tranx 400 and work well for the same type of fishing?
Captain C.A. I live on Charlotte and live on a canal. I watch Juvenile tarpon tail most mornings. I have begun fishing for them out in the harbor, but my question is it worth fishing for them in the evenings in the canal even though I do not see them tailing? I plan on throwing artificial baits.
Two different animals altogether the Teramar XX is a much higher quality rod but at a higher price point than the Falcon. And the Falcon tarpon rods aren’t available anymore so a comparison isn’t really a reality now
Great info thank you! Just got a place near Cedar Key and have already found Sodium! I will get this combo. Do you have a link for perfection loop to lure?
Caught a 55lb yellowfin last year on my 6000 Saragosa with 30lb braid. I can definitely attest to that reels strength. More than enough reel for tarpon.
I'm kind of new at fishing with rods since I always use Yoyos...haha...I'm thinking of getting this combo but I heard you say that you're using a 30 lbs braid line but that you can fight a 130 lbs tarpon...How is this possible? Thank you.
Any 3 or 4 piece travel rod recs for those that have to pack them up? Been running a couple old Ugly Stiks with Penn Battle2 6000s - but would love to upgrade these this year.
@@dcm703 To my knowledge, nobody makes an appropriate travel Tarpon rod. We need a company to come out with a 4 piece, 8ft., H or XH rod that is moderatly fast. Something like an ugly stik tiger travel version would be excellent. Rod manufacturers, if you read this, make sure you keep travel rod pieces UNDER 30". ...or I may as well be checking a seperate large rod tube for 2pc rods. Also, you have to sell them where the travellers are coming from, not going to. Please send them to Canada. ...Do not sell them in Florida...nobody will buy them there.
Thanks C.A. my wife is going to be so happy when my.. I mean her Saragosa and Terramar XX get here!!
Thanks teach! This is what I've been wanting to learn for years.... look forward to the rest of the series!
Love rod and reel stuff
Good info to use for Tarpon and other species
Definitely looks like a good set up for sure…. Fish 🐠 on

Thanks for the support Jim
Great insight! Been seeing them off the beaches at sunrise here in Palm Harbor!
One of my favorite spots and close to the Bar Fly 😉
@@flatsclasscharters That it is! 🌴😎
Love tarpon season!
Great idea I’m in Homosassa 👍
I have that same rod and reel setup. Balance very well. I agree that the rod feels more like a heavy.
Nothing like using light, high quality gear on big fish!

Good stuff! More sport on a lighter than 8000-10000 set up!
That’s for sure! More sweat 😓 too

Funny thing Capt... Stu Apte said more Tarpon are caught on May 11 than any other day of the year! :P
😮
Interesting watch.. but can't seem to locate the next 4 parts, of the series ??

Do you like the Shimano rod better than the Falcon Tarpon Special or the Falcon Pass Special?

Hey nice catch and feedback my friend
I mean... Tarpon get four times that big. You sure about that?
@@MrNickjberry your not wrong. How about an asterisk: good enough for the "average" tarpon.

Are you reeling that lure on the bottom or closer to the top of the water?

I’ll ask the guys at Shimano/Loomis about travel rod options
@@flatsclasscharters Thanks! Would love to pick up a couple new ones but even with the Simms Bounty hunter, gotta find a 3 or 4 piece. Thank you!
