Joseph and the amazing technicolor Dreamcoat was the first musical I saw as a child and it changed my life. I became a massive musical fan after. I saw multiple musicals live after that.
Ok so I had to pause and rewind when you hit that E6 without any effort and you held it and added vibrato. I showed my sister and her jaw dropped. Watching in awe from Melbourne Australia ❤️
Six is brilliant! It’s just so much fun, full of sass, humour, cleaver lyrics. I LOVED it when I went to see it with the girls 😁 I couldn’t recommend it enough. I’ve seen all of the shows, at least once. I bloody love our West End. 😁
Just got back from a trip to the UK, saw Six in London....most of the same ladies as in the Jubilee presentation. Awesome singing... love the power vocals. Totally loved the 'modernization' of a series of events from so long ago--including German Disco club moment... totes love!!!!
JC Superstar was iconic. I bought it when released and still play it today, Ian Gilan and all the performers were just superb. Thanks to Andrew Loyd Weber and Time Rice for their brilliance.
His name is Giles Terera, he played Aaron Burr in the Original West End Cast. He’s no longer in that role but I guess they asked him back for this particular performance 😊
Six is extraordinary Tara - you would love it. I've seen it three times (in the UK)! It was written by two music students and it's based on actual facts about Henry the Viii's six wives. The concept is that they are all competing as singers over who had it worst with Henry. It's very funny in places ('Don't lose your head' - Anne Boleyn's song) and very moving in others ('Heart of Stone' - Jane Seymour's song). The Broadway cast are phenomenal - particularly Sam Pauly who plays Katherine Howard. Each song is a different style - Catherine of Aragon is a bit Beyonce, Jane Seymour like Adele, Catherine Howard, Ariana Grande etc. The soundtrack is great.
Also, fun fact, the E6 in phantom is pre-recorded due to staging purposes, so any given Christine ostensibly only has to hit that note perfectly once in their career (though I'm sure they do numerous time throughout the duration of their careers). So here, she could very well not be "in practise" to hit that E.
Starting a vowel with an H sound is a big classical no no. There is a third alternative called "easy onset" where there is no H and no glottal stop. Your E6s sound thin and airy because excess air is escaping your cords due to lack of closure. A glottal or easy onset would serve you better in a classical style.
You know Tara you are so AWESOME! with it comes to this like you would really know every single tone released from their mouth 🫀 I really amazed that knowledged of yours 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 I love you ❤️❤️❤️ watching here from Philippines Cebu 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks so much for this video. I’d love your reaction to Sam Ryder. He did an amazing performance at this concert, and of course at the Eurovision Final but his voice in some of his TikTok covers throughout lockdown is just phenomenal. He’s doing the UK proud at the moment
Just watched the video and loved it. In regards to six I've seen it twice and am seeing it again soon and it is the musical I could see it every time and be in love with it. Would defiantly recommend
Tara, I wish you could react to the AGT Golden Buzzer performance by young polish singer Sara James. I like it a lot. I am from Poland and watch your channel for long time. It would be a such pleasure to see your reaction to this particular performance, and know what you think about Sara's vocal skills
Nina Hagen is criminally underrated and I would like to suggest that you react to the first 2 songs of this concert: ua-cam.com/video/lPjauUm3YYc/v-deo.html Is she damaging her voice? It seems impossible that she's not, but at the same time it all looks effortless for her.
It's it's just so perfect to watch the you jubilee celebration with you. I don't think you're being too picky either because I agree with what you said. I don't have a great EAR, but I did rewind and pay attention to what you said and it may not be perfect like Dimash, the alien, however, it sure was impressive and like I said, it was great to watch with you. 😎
My fAvorite musical !!! :) since i coudn't go see it because of covid too, i saw it on disney+ :) soo amazing.. for sure i will go in new york to see it in real time :)
Hi Tara. I know a couple of singers that can sing a E 6 and they are Floor Jansen and Tarja Turunen they are both classically trained and both of them are Metal Singers. Tarja has alot more Classic training. Us fans of Floor think she could sing a theme song for Disney. This was cool
Here's a challenge - Try listening to Bruises, Before You Go, or Someone You Loved by Lewis Capaldi at night by yourself and try not to harmonize. I fail every time LOL.
I’m sorry but there is no one that does this better than Sierra Boggess, she is extremely light and her pitch is unbelievable… you never think she will flop at any point. This one you could tell that pitchy not was coming. Those glottal starts were due to a lack of confidence in the ability to hit… sure it’s a nerve racking event so can forgive this but if she uses glottal live in show… she is the wrong choice for Christine! This phantom is ok but John Owen Jones, Earl Carpenter and Ramin Karimloo were the best (opinions excluding originals Crawford and Brightman)
They would have been better served to have gotten Henk and Floor for the Phantom piece!!!! Kind of makes you wonder because Webber always said Henk was his favorite and Webber was there!!!
Lucy I feel like something is missing in the song like there is missing something in the song! But okay I’m also exciting the song to be singed like Sierra !
I'm not going to lie, and I think I believe that Tara would agree; that at this level the performances and the audio was a bit less polished than I had hoped. Come on people we are performing for the Queen and you had lots of time to rehearse! I heard, and I am not a professional, a lot of pitchy and weak voices but the overall production and stage were dead on. This sounded like a dress rehearsal.
You're 100% right. These performers perform live normally on Broadway - live performance isn't new to them. Standards have really dropped since a decade ago...it hurts.
Nodom on the Odom. 😆. Actually, this guy is British. He's just hiding it well. I enjoyed that Christine performance, personally. Personally, I'm not a fan of Six. Not even a little. I didn't know The Six Flags Guy had an African cousin. 😄 Jason Donovan does not have a delivery style that crosses the ocean well (either Ocean--I believe he's Australian, but was in the London production).
Sorry, Tara, disagree with you about Lucy St. Louis. I think you were being too kind. She does not have the voice to play Christine Daae. She lacks the power, the range and she lost pitch several times - not just that horrible note at the end. As a life-long POTO fan (going back to the Colm Wilkinson days), I can't give her a pass. Not when she's following the likes of Rebecca Cain and company. The standards for POTO have dropped in the last decade. (As a side note, the notes in her final "ah's" are supposed to be glottal notes. It's one thing she did right.)
I saw the Phantom with her a month or two ago and thought both of them were not as good as the ones I saw in 2011. (Not quite sure who I saw though haha).
I am interested in what you have to say about the woman who played Christine. Her voice is more suitable to pop music then let the legit style in musical theatre. She doesn’t have the power and was drowned out by her male partner several times, did not have enough vibrato, her voice was a bit too bright and then where it needed to be the opposite, and that last time that it did not have the ring or the vibrato necessary to be as impressive as all the other women we’ve seen play Christine in the past.
I couldn't disagree with you more. This Christine does not have a pop sound, she has a legit classical sound more akin to choral music than opera. Very few legit classical broadway singers have true operatic voices (Kelli O'Hara does, Kristin Chenoweth does, maybe Audra). Most singers who use a legit style on broadway employ a bright, more-forward sound more akin to choral music than opera (think Denée Benton, Philippa Soo, Julie Andrews, Jessie Mueller). There are a couple reasons why I think this performance is not indicative of this Christine's talent. 1 -- the venue. There is virtually no resonating space. Classical singing relies entirely on resonating space both in the singer's body and in the space the voice occupies. The space is the microphone. Opera singers do not use mics in performances -- the space is designed to carry the singer's voice to the very back seats of the house. This means the singer has to give a lot less effort and energy to make a big sound. A physical microphone is not comparable to the acoustics of a space designed for classical singing. Belters use microphones because that is how their sound carries best -- the calling technique they are using uses relatively less resonance and therefor microphones are required because even in a live space their sound won't carry as well -- they would go hoarse trying to fill a theatre without amplification. 2 - The weather. It looks like all of these singers are battling some ventilation issues. It looks relatively gusty on stage. This is not conducive to good singing. Even the belters -- who are at a better advantage because their sounds carry better with mics -- are falling flat. These are professional singers who I'm sure at any other engagement with better circumstances are not falling flat. Temperature will also be detrimental to the voice, whether it's too warm or cold. Finally, to your point about vibrato -- saying she does not have "enough" vibrato is kind of a moot point. Vibrato is a stylistic choice used to colour sound. Saying she doesn't have enough is like saying Van Gogh didn't use enough red in "starry night". His painting, his colours. Also -- at the end of the song, Christine rarely uses vibrato on the E6 because it is meant to be akin to a scream -- a directional choice.
I'm sorry but that girl did not do 'The phantom of the opera' justice, I would've preferred so much more strength in her voice minus the glottal attacks. her shriek by the end sounded almost like a boiling kettle. for anyone who is curious about how it should be done, search for the 25th anniversary concert here on youtube.
Sorry but the “H” would’ve made me uncomfortable it’s a big no no and I do agree that her top note was flat but she was doing it the classical way in other words the right way
