He's always great in every role he plays, but it was this movie that convinced me he's one of greatest living actors of our time. When you notice that he's a completely different character than the last time you saw him - and that he's 100% in character all the time - never a hint of his other roles creeping in, but completely different, that you know you're looking at real talent.
This movie has aged well over the last few years. That smile Bale gives his intern when he hires him is priceless!Bale, Gosling and Carrel are such great actors.
@I P, clearly the guy was not hired as a trader but asan assistans/data collector. For all we know maybe specifically for the task he was given in the clip..

Yes, it is brainy at times, which couldn't be helped, but the main characters, as well as the supporting actors pull this miracle through. I can only thank them for their outstanding performance.
I think one of the greatest achievement is actually making those laymen explanation scenes work. I'm sure many other movie projects have topics that they know average audience would not understand and they need to make that understandable, having scenes to explain the terminology and all is probably the last thing you want to do, but it works well.
for me personally wall street with michael dogulas was very well done, you could be a total dumbass and still figure out what the movie is about. But you are correct, it is hard to explain finance and yet make it fun and interesting for a regular viewer.
True about this being an exceptionally enjoyable movie about finance but there are many others. A good guideline is to avoid any with George Clooney. Robert Redford, or Ashton Kutcher.
Such a great setup to reveal his character. We all know that such a person would be mocked and backtalked if they we with him. But you also realize that it would be so wrong, since he's just lacking a bit of people skills but has his heart in the right place and wants the best for everyone.
i'm glad it seems he has a supporting wife, must be tough to find ppl to talk to or form relationships with. I'm not like him exactly but also have extreme social anxiety so its nice to see a life-like sympathetic character like this on-screen who you can relate to.

This was a wonderfully written movie. I was going to write a book/novel called "Bailout," but then when I saw this, I realized that someone else had already covered the subject. So I started writing screenplays instead.
The thing here is he looked at the TOP 20 mortgage bonds. Meaning the ones that had the most money invested into them and had the supposed best ratings and all that jazz. I always loved that shot at 2:55, especially the decision to have Bale stare point blank into the camera while he does it. It adds an element of uncomfortable intimacy to the shot that you really didn't need. And it perfectly conveys the awkwardness and creep-factor that makes it so people have such a hard time interacting with him.
