Gino Vannelli. What can I say? He has had more of an effect on me musically/mystically than anyone else, even J.S. Bach. Gino's music is a perfect blend of BEAUTY AND POWER. And he is an poet. His lyrics tell the story of the struggles of a man's life in these confusing times. Gino Vannelli, in my opinion is the greates musical force of the last 75 years or so. His albums: Power People, Storm At Sunup, Gist of the Gemini, and Brother To Brother all all masterpiece classics. But all of his albums are gems. When I leave this world, Gino Vannelli's music will be one of the things I will miss the most.
I bought this album the year it came out in 1975 and was stunned. The writing, the arranging (by his very talented brother Joe), the masterful soprano sax solo by my friend Jerome Richardson, and the powerful lyrics. This to me, was his best album!!! Every song is a 'gem'!
I loved Gino from the first time I heard him. Saw him live in Toronto many (many!) years ago and still smile when I recall how the women swarmed the stage, 5 deep, just to get close to that gorgeous hunk!!
@@scorsese1 100%... Gist is my favorite, followed by this, then Powerful People and finally Brother to Brother... Got Pauper, but found it almost pretentiously classical... But then classics are a bit beyond me and I could change my mind with more listening time...

Wildly romantic, sensual, and 'let the fantasy fly' music! Vannelli didn't just make great pop-jazz fusion, he made very passionate music to accompany our fantasies for making love to our favorite beautiful women. And UA-cam has some nerve planting a commercial in the middle of this video. Insensitive and stupid.
Yeah! Now you're talking. I have "Powerful People", "Storm at Sunup", "Brother to Brother" and "Pauper in Paradise" on pristine vinyl. Gono Vannelli's albums were always so well recorded. His music from that period was just made to be played back on a great analog rig. Been listening since 1975. His music still sounds fresh and vital. Magnificent artist.

Sometimes things got a little over produced as was the synth-jazz sound in 75', and then "The Voice" comes in and cuts through all that electronic fuss and just brings back the message, Gino's vocal range and strength are at peak on this album and are astounding. The drums and percussion on all of his albums and tours were always perfection either because Gino did most of that himself or because he always had the best percussionists and drove them hard because he was so good, he mowed through quite few. Love to watch this cat perform live, great showman.

Joe Vannelli lays down an expert keyboard soundscape to Richard Baker's precision fleet footed walking Bass on "Storm," and the Angrily Aggressive bassline on "Love Me Now ! ! !"
This was recorded in the days before polyphonic synths were available. That incredibly lush string sound was achieved with overdubs. Lots of painstaking overdubs. And yes, I love that hellacious synth bass line (and patch) on "Love Me Now".
