Going out and finding all of my ranger pets is actually in my top 3 experiences in mmos. Going out, exploring the world and find all of them really was beyond fun. I love how they did it.
Thru truely made it feel like an adventure with the search. Honestly lots of elements of this game I
They've done well
In gw1 I felt the same way searching for skill tomes. Really enjoyed that mechanic for skills
As a guardian main i can totally confirm for the fact that Dragonhunter it's cool because: bow is fun with cool glowy arrows xD
I mean I'm not wrong! It's good fun to just go pew pew holy Wrath lol
The bows 5 in wvw is chefs kiss
Anyways, which guardian specialization has at least any lifesteal effect/passive/skill?
Dragonhunter has a heal function kinda like lifesteal. You basically activate it so whatever damage you do is returned as health. This is almost required as a dps dragonhunter guard build. @@alyasVictorio
Totally agree with your list:
3 - bear-bow and pet swap for extra pet intervention
2 - second health bar and lots of pets
1 - heavy armored but not a "bland" warrior, also auto-aegis
I'd probably add the rise of engineer exploded when the mechanist's pet landed.
Mechanist's did increase the engineers numbers, it wasn't the apocalypse people made it out to be. It's just the pet stood out so much.
It's just some minor thing. The engi was buffed, everyone ran out to play it for several couple of hours - classic meta sluts behavior. Nowadays you can see there's a way fewer amount of them. Especially when they've finally noticed the goddamn disgusting green thing shooting green things that follows them around and feels off literally everywhere other than new kaineng zone.
@@vidaliver1447yeah the mechs really feel odd. If we could dye them, that might fix it. Maybe. Like, if you could dye it in the colors of usual asura golems then it might look more asuran and feel more familiar. But this way the big green thing feels odd
I’m a mesmer main myself! And not even one of the popular specs that are Chronomancer and Virtuoso. Mirage all the way, baby!
I just love how fast paced and movement oriented the Mirage feels!
It may not be a very popular choice, but I love it :)
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
And now with the weapons opening up to all specs it's going to be amazing!
The mirage play style is just awesome. I really didn't get Mesmer during 1-80 then chose Mirage as my first elite and haven't looked back. Hyper mobility, chaotic on the battle field. A little bit squishy at times, but with so many evades on tap, it's all about not getting hit in the first place. Jaunt is OP ;-)
Mirage is the only Mesmer elite I will play, the others just feel off to me.
Mirage is defs my fave spec. But, chrono and virt just don't feel right to me.
@@spencers4121Chrono was shoe horned into a tank role when raids were introduced. Virts are specifically made for people who dont like clones/mesmer. Thus Mirage is the only elite that lines up with core mesmer. I mained mirage until nerf and have been sitting out till i find a new main.
Your content has always been good but lately its been great!!
Great video as always. On the topic in my exp, Warrior is also very popular. And for a good reason, my personal favorite is the Spellbreaker.
Being able to be a real necromancer, that can summon minions and have death like abilities (and not just the skills, but things that make the whole death aspect more unique like being able to help the downed, increasing the regeneration or steal the life force) is one of the best feelings i ever had with a RPG game, even more unique in the MMO theme
As a pathologic loner, nothing tops mechanist. Big robot is my guild.
Mechanist is just fantastic in pve
Sadly it gets a little boring. But i can switch to holo if i want to play the piano or scrappy. Mecha is just so easy :)
I'm just sick of my screen being full of 20 of the same big huge glowing green thing at every meta. Hell at every vendor
You know you get buffs for being in a guild and representing them right?
Guardian was always ArenaNet's favorite. It's because part of their vision of GW2 was dissolving the "holy trinity" and the Guardian, who's core spec is not dedicated healer, took that spot that would be Monk (dedicated healer) in GW1. They even carried over a good number of Monk skills from GW1 and gave them to Guardian, albeit with different play mechanics to match GW2. They viewed Guardian as the archtype for jack-of-all-trades game play that delivered the spirit of what they were trying to do with GW2. You can heal and boon, but also you're in heavy armor and can go mele. I think it's always be the class they put the most effort into balancing. You rarely see Guardian updates in patches... With all the elite specs now, I feel many classes are just as good jack-of-all-trades, but of course there's still that special place for Guardian.
I would love to see a 3 least popular class video so that they can get some more love!
This would be awesome, I began to play thief some days ago. I’d like to see this profession in the video 😅
@@martinowl2264 I main thief since launch and I loved playing it especially when they added the Alac Specter in EoD. They are going to make Quick Deadeye a thing which is a bit strange to me because I personally think Daredevil would have been the better choice. I'm still optimistic to see how Quick Deadeye is going to work.
@@Salamandr0 it's probably Revenant , elementalist and.. it should be Engineer, but with the recent Elite spec of engineer, perhaps not..
It could be warriors cus they were SUPER trash for a very long time, also very simple and boring.. but they were buffed and now feel pretty great.
So it could be thief...
The 3rd one is debetable and probably according to the meta.
But i am sure that the 2 are rev and ele.
A lot of this is just anecdotal, as we have very limited data to go off. But I would feel comfortable with Revenant in the top 3 no problem, I remember condi renegade being popular some years back. But after it got nerfed, I rarely see any type of revenant.
Surprisingly I have a blast with holosmith 😂 I was afraid a bit at first but the power holo doesn't have a horror rotation and it hits decently. Sure the grenade kit is a bit of a pain which I was unable to get used to but the rest of the skills are fairly intuitive. Only issue is to make sure you don't overheat.
You can play holosmith without using kits at all! In fact, Masel has a recent power build guide for just using one without kits that might interest you.
Wheree
what rotation are u playing tho? :D grenade and bomb kit is still very hard compared to other rotations
@@MrVorech I play power. Sword shield, mines, laser disk, and grenades.
i played Holosmith so much, its actually insane
my favorites when I actually got around to trying all the classes and most of the elite specs surprised me. The core classes I hated leveling (revenant. thief) ended up having my all time favorite elite specs
Finally: someone who agrees that Core Revenant is insufferable to level. Can't share your opinion on Thief, but I also don't understand why core Rev has to feel so clunky.
lol idk for revenant i just started leveling him but core thief double pistol was my fav thing in gw2 before i got into wvw
@@heyfell4301 Leveling core engineer was a complete garbage, before the rifle buff.
Condi Renegade (short bow/staff) for life here. I did used to main an Ele, but now I'm all in on my Rev.
Very well done vid!
Another fun video. Crazy that the Engi and Rev are the least played; I love them both.
I feel like I see more mechs then I do say ranger but based off of gw2 efficiency engineer and Rev are at the bottom
@@CaffeinatedDad Good point. When I'm on Engi it's either Scrapper or Holo
My main for many years now is a female charr warrior/berserker, wielding two axes.
That whirl attack on Axe 5 with the effects of both Frostfang AND Astralaria is just awesome xD
My second main is a standard thief with 2x HOPE.
And the third is a norn ranger/druid with Nevermore, who kinda only exists for raids. Pure cliche I know, but I love her ^^
Oh for sure everyone has that one character that is just... cliche? But in the very best of ways!
i feel called out here XD
the first class i played to get into gw2 was a guardian into a dragonhunter. the second favourite class was a condi soulbeast. the third was a reaper XD
after a prolonged pause irl, i recently started playing gw2 again and i have been really enjoying both the guardian as well as the scrapper. i was at first really put off by the many additional skills the engineer has (small hands, thus limited reach on keyboard, and generally loads of fatfingering) but after getting a proper mouse a couple years ago, i managed to get it to work (still fatfingering tho)
When I started I was really put off with Ele but after a while I can't imagine maining anything else anymore. Tempest is my absolute baby
My first character was a Char engineer and it was so much fun with all the tools i had then the expansions added cools specs. Holosmith was really good. And Mechanist seem very fun also. Having a mech to tank while i dps.
God this was hilarious XD Thanks for this!
Necro is hilarious in PvE. Hit the underwater combat with Flesh Golem and it's all, "I have a zombie shark. Do you have a zombie shark?" And now I'm a Reaper it's "Zombie Shark! Attack!" while Shouting insults. And who doesn't hit Greatsword 5 and not wish they could have a sample of Scorpion from Mortal Kombat yelling "GET OVER HERE!!"?
Necromancer being second is surprising since the only reason I made one was cause I wanted a character with a witch aesthetic. Reaper being a popular elite spec is not surprising though cause the moment I touched it, I immediately felt how fun it was to swing a greatsword and scythe.
Been playing since release off and on. My most played and favourite os revenant. Its just never let me down. I miss playing herald and exploring heart of thorns for the first time.
Something about the first experience in a zone or an expansion that can't be replaced!
My first character is a Sylvari ranger - I wanted to go all out tree hugger XD. I'm doing the story with that character and made her a Soulbeast. I do get, why rangers are so popular - it's fun to play and you get fluffy animals on top. I do love my second main, an Asura mechanist, too. I use her for group content mostly. Necromancer is nice too and I am very fond of the Harbinger condi build. Guardian is not my cup of tea, mainly because I don't like paladin types.
Guardians have long been the most popular class. They rarely if ever suffer major nerfs. I would argue that even the nerf to the pages in their tomes was barely felt by most firebrand's playstyles. Heal Firebrand is the de facto healer in fractals to the point that druids aren't even truly considered for the role. Not only does the guardian have great damage mitigation, it also has passive damage mitigation, which helps new players a ton, since they don't need to focus so hard on defenses when they get a free aegis up every 40 seconds at base and have another on demand from their virtues.
I do see a lot of warriors in the game, but I chalk that up to warriors being the default choice for heavy armor class and some players not knowing what a Revenant is (also a new player wouldn't have access to Revenants unless they bought an expansion) or what the difference between a Warrior and a Guardian is. People have a tendency to fall back on what sounds familiar and Warrior is a very comfortable class to slot into.
I agree with your assessment on elementalists being rare. I'm not great at elementalist. The class is fairly complex, but it feels incredibly rewarding when you play it well. Mesmers also are pretty rare outside of the daily jumping puzzles and I would bet that some of those who teleport others to the end of the dailies, probably only run mesmer to have access to portal.
Guardians I feel just fit every situation greatly and bring tons to the table! I mean they are good fun! I actually think I see more mesmer versus elementalists, but that could just be me!
Touch my dragonhunter and I will riot!
"they rarely even suffer major nerfs" because they are the "golden child" profession of the game and I think they've put more effort balancing Guardian than any other; a non-dedicated healer in heavy armor, it's been the archetype profession that embodies their vision of how the game should be played from the start, so very important functionally it works right. The fact it so seldom requires nerfs proves how much work they put into it.
Some history: In the earlier years of the game, Warrior was the class favorite. There actually used to be a dev that ran around WvW named "nerf warrior", and it was because (IIRC) players kept yelling at them to nerf the class. Guardian was in an ok state during that time, but it didn't have the mobility or damage output that Warrior was capable of (for obvious reasons- it was mainly a support class). Rarely did you see a Guardian who ran around for damage purposes. It was good at its job for support, but it couldn't do everything like it does now.
So essentially, there might be a lot of veteran players that have warriors because of how good it was above most anything years before. For new players however, I can see why it's still an attractive class even if it's no longer at the top.
I actually find a lot of Eles and Mesmers. People like Mesmer especially, for its aesthetics and uniqueness. Eles are your typical wizards, so it's about as familiar as the Warrior is and contributes to people choosing them and at the moment, its elite specs are pretty strong. I personally find Mesmers to be more complex than Ele, because I find that having a lot of choices in your hands- which Ele definitely does -to be easier to handle than a class that has a few tricks that you HAVE to land, otherwise you're screwed (which to me is how Mesmer is). In that sense, Ele IMO is quite forgiving.
where are my mechanists and virtuosos T.T (very good video again caffeinated :DD)
3:59 gg wp, that made me laugh 😂
4:01 cracked me so bad! Me with my Weaver XD
That was my favorite edit in this whole video looool
Tempest elemental for life...with almost a decade invested into my ele...i can persevere through anything.....salute to my fellow ele mains..
Haha the adventure time meme was excellent
I agree with this list up until the time where the Mechanist was introduced. For me it's akin to playing Ursan or Spirit Spammer in GW1 before they got broken. It's just a mindless build that you can play while 1/2 asleep, drunk or stoned or whatever and kick ass just about anywhere, anytime when you're running solo! 😃
This was actually based off of the total time played. The engineer still ranks least played compared to every other class but that's over the length of gw2 not recent months
For me it is Mesmer, Thief and Engineer. But dang i miss the Paragon and the derwish from Guild Wars 1.
Stop, I don't want any more sad feelings... lol
I like Revenant most. I also really like Weaver, but it's a hard class to get back into after taking a break.
Weaver does have lots of APM but to be sure it's great!
I hate that revenants are locked in utility due to legends, makes it less flexible imo.
i feel revenant is probably the least played class.. right?
@@CaffeinatedDad Got any suggestion on how to play it in PvP? I've made some attempts at PvP weaver, but it's very underwhelming.
Maybe I'm just not smart enough to play Weaver.
@@akhsdenlew1861 I haven't seen any statistics, but based on the classes I tend to see yeah, they're pretty rare.
I think the least popular is the revenant given that the class is not only locked behind an expansion. It also is a class that has a high ceiling than the other classes in its group. But man, mastering it makes you the most needed person in Raids and Fractals because of the Alac you provide.
But in terms of popularity because the class sucks. Then it's the elementalist. Imagine playing the piano in an MMO game while also having a downstate rotation. 😂😂😂
Lmao where's my downstate rotation shirt
I've been maining my Charr Berserker since I started GW2. Been messing around with some the other classes and I'm enjoying Memser so far! Might try Guardian as well if its that good.
Charr berserker just fits! It's such a perfect matchup for the class!
Personally I think it is like water (classes most popular in GW2), many people will choose path of least resistance to content, ie choose something that fullfills a fantasy but above all, be easier to multi role and sustain. Specializations that can have a companion whether a tamed wild animal, a jade bot, a clone/phantasm , turrets or a minion make the game easier in open world for instance but become less popular in PvP enviroments or content where Ai control becomes an issue. Two of the classes you mention have that.
For me my path currently of least resistance is greatsword Vindicator (i'll switch to mace/axe condi for harder content) I have gap close, great sustain , easy stun break with stabilty , high damage, I buff others around me with protection, vigor, fury, might, swiftness and do some splash healing and hit like a trruk too. I love a thief but I can do so much more with other classes in PvE as I put in smaller effort and higher rewards not just for me , but everyone.
If in a patch suddenly Ele became so much stronger, but say Mech stayed the same benchmark, Mech would still be more popular as like water, it still reaches the sea/ocean but doesn't have to force its way, it'll do it over time (or in GW2 not that much more time).
I think this is true of many games not just GW2. Look at the amount of guides for games and the headlines of such guides, will tell what most people like afetr they have fulfilled the fantasy element of teh genre.
Thanks for the vid CD! I was playing Elementalist until about 35 and then got the itch to play everything else all at once haha. I only wish that you could have enough character slots to have one of each (coming from WoW's huge character slot pool and FF's all-in-one approach). I know you can pay for more slots but it feels a bit wasteful for a game I've not fully committed to yet!
With some time and research into making gold, you can buy all the QoL items you could want in game. I have 19 character slots, and that's with $0 real life cash spent on the game. And I'm no meta farmer or grinder.
Been necro since DAoC and Diablo 2. Eso main.
The true OG!
I main a Guardian named Stan Dzinthefyre, and that's EXACTLY what I do!
Jokes on you I am the fire loool
My top 3 are Necro, Revenant and Ranger! Love the fantasy of the dragon knight you get with Herald and pet builds are always my fav in any game!
Great choices! I started out and hit 80 with a ranger for that exact reason. I've branched off but the Ranger has a special place with me!
@@CaffeinatedDad I play a lot of dungeons and dragons as well and Druid has always been my fav class so Ranger was a no brainer for the nature fantasy side of things haha
Its kind of shocking, you would think a dragon knight would be much more popular, Like in ff14 you see dragoons everywhere.
Hitting stuff with a greatsword since beta with my warrior. Never got bored of him..
I love the arcing slice. It's just super smooth!
ive tried every class before picking me main, but only1 that was fun was necro
also could u give me a timetable when ure playing/guild is active?
Sword n Torch Will Bender. Makes me feel like a firebender n I love it
Oooo that'll be good!
I don't know why Ele is not in that video but seeing how rare we are and how people mention in groups that they don't know Eles roles is not a surprise. Playing my Tempest has been rocking CMs, raids, end game content bringing damage and heal and booms. But definitely a huge challenge to learn rotations. 😅
Me, a Deadeye Thief: checks out
Dragon Hunter is my main now in all game modes. I've been pushed there from nerfs to other classes lol
I almost couldnt agree more. My first character is necro and if i can get an expansion my top 5 personal characters will be necro guardian ranger mesmer then thief or revenant for the 5th. Im torn cause revenant is unique but the thief shadow spell caster sounds awesome
I love necro, she’s my main and I began in gw1 but was an elementalist and added necro as the second profession, though I made a necro too and she looked so cool. I have one of each class and mostly play Mesmer, revenant and elementalist. Guardian’s nice, but not the most exciting.
I feel like the least popular is Revenant or Mesmer. All the other professions have similarities to other MMO classes that people have already loved and enjoyed so they usually are drawn to those immediately.
Funny enough I believe it's elementalist, revnant and engineer are the three lowest!
Little late but agree numbers wise more Mesmers do exist but thats just utility. A tank for a raid or a jp portal slave isnt going to main the class. Its a class kept for utility alone
Yeah I don't see any Revenants at all. I do see a couple Mesmers though.
I know you were looking at classes rather than espec popularity, but you maybe should have had an 'honorable mention' for the mechanist. I see so many mechs, although that is mainly in overworld pve/roaming.
Oh there are tons of engineers recently! But when I made this video it was in reference to the total play time for the length of Guild Wars 2!
most underplayed classes in game: 1) elementalist: hardest to play, lots of skills to manage, combo requires lots of button mashing to get dps, dps is solid once mastered, master ele players make one of the best duelists in game as well as large aoe potential for wvw, higher learning curve required due to difficulty. elite specs are fun to play but still somewhat difficult 2) engineer: hard to play due to kits and skill comboing, limited and boring weapon styles at base, early game is boring, dps is solid once mastered, elite specs are fun to play specially holo and mechanist. the reason why the 3 classes mentioned in the video are most commonly picked is because, outside from fantasy style esk; easier to play, easier to survive, play style in early game is not plain and boring, elite specs are fun to use, and easy to play, their animations and hit boxes are wider and provide decent-good dmg. Necro specially in open world performs really well because of their innate sustainability.
In order of straight exploration ease for us: Necromancer, Engineer, Elementalist, Ranger, Warrior. The Elementalist comes into it's own when it's in a party and not the direct target of mob agro. Honorable mention Mesmer.
I think the elementalist is pretty good solo too but agreed it reaches full potential in groups!
I play guardian, because it has great survivability as a solo and it's really fun to play.
Nice points. At some point, the least played (actual real data) class/race/gender combination was Female Charr Mesmer and I still think this is true. Mesmers are not that beginner friendly (unless we get to the Virtuoso department when its just Daggers go BRRR ), Charr fashion is hard because tail clips in most skins and female because they - like Asura - have few anatomic differences between males and females.
I'm playing in 85% of time Mesmer - main reason why I started and I'm still playing the game, rest 15% is Necro Reaper, because I always loved the concept of shroud, and in my opinion he is best example how should looks like non-cond build, oriented on huge numbers.
...
Mostly of time I'm in open world, and least played classes, based on my observation are thiefs and revenants, followed by engeneers and mesmers.
You can see, the times from early EoD, when you could see everywhere army of Jade mechs, are gone, same works for Virtuoso.
The green army has been crazy not gonna lie. I actually have grown tired of them everywhere lol
The closest thing I have to a main is a rifle Scrapper, so I never have to stop shooting with my gyros (the skills, not the Greek food).
I feel like Elementalist would currently be one of the least played classes. Could still be Engi, but the arrival of Mechanist made that class a whole lot more popular.
Phew! I was worried for a second. Gyros? Why wouldn't you shoot with a sandwich like a normal person?
Guardian is the very epitome of "HOLY FIRE CLEANSES THE EVIL WITHIN"
"Can be evil if their on fire" said the fire priest
@@CaffeinatedDad any other color other than blue or gold is automatically evil
I started a ranger back when the game launched, because I wanted to play a ranged pet class like the hunter in wow. I returned to the game this year and sadly the elite specs dont help with the same playstyle (druid=heal, soulbeast=no pet, untamed=melee). I leveled up a guardian because dragonhunter looked cool, then I realized that the mechanist is the best pet class so now Im leveling an engineer. Kinda sad that I had to let the ranger go, tho now they announced dps druid.
same. my very first character was a ranger but i stopped playing her because i also don't really care for the ranger elites. i'm not a huge fan of healing & why would i choose to play a ranger only to give up my pet or switch to melee? makes no sense to me. i've recently been playing my necro & my thief, but i may try the guardian out just to see what i'm missing.
Interesting, I had the same experience with my ranger once I hit 80. I wanted a pet and a bow and to still be viable. Maybe some day.
@@Michsomething Open world anything and everything works, end game content it doesn't matter because everyone is going to stack up regardless of range or melee.
I`m a huge fan of Necromancer in any game where he`s offered, in Grim Dawn for instance ... so, especially the "Minion Reaper" is still my main in GW2 ...
I`m playing the power Guardian in core mode without any elite spec, easy to play and imo the best group support via F1/F2/F3 or his symbols, if I happen to help any random groups on the maps, everyone is always excited when my core Guardian uses his "F" skills, for me still the best core class in the game ... and my core Norn Guardian is dressed like a "Sons of Svanir" badass
As a new player and a Guardian thank you for validating my ego ahaha jokes aside great vid!
Lmao happy to help!
I love my ranger/soulbeast, because of the mobility. I love rangers in general and I love pets. ❤
I also love exploring the maps so I'm happy with my souldbeast.
I think besides Warrior and Ele... the list was kind of expected was expecting War or Ele instead Necro tho, hardly a lot of people would choose Engi (without Golem it was less attractive), or Reve (it is hardest to play Warrior), or Mesmer (which is kind of weird to understand at first and not something common unless you come from GW1) and finally Thief which is not super common usually and not Top3. I think with the Elite Specs the player base on each class grew a lot but this game is so alt friendly that is hard to really know how "main" of each class there is or what are the first characters people usually made.
Maybe there should be a database to gather that info from the ANet APIs? Well, it could be cool.
Nothing is better than when a shiny Char Guardian rolls up to save the day. 😂
Their armor so bright it was as if a setting sun had dawned upon my mangled corpse
I see mechs everywhere!! I'm sitting here on my scrapper feeling awkward
hmm the least is between thief and ele, but i think is thief, you rarely see a holosmith and once in a while on full moons a deadeye(super cool class by the way)
Just to clarify, Holosmith is an Engineer Elite, not Thief. For the Thief, I Daredevil more than its other Elites.
Eles are definitely near the bottom. So much work to get the same results.
as a necromancer, when im around lvl 50-80, i got under levelled gear and under level, but still managed to pull 7-10 mobs with 5-7 level gaps with ease
Necromancer is an absolute Beast in most instances. It can handle quite a bit!
@@CaffeinatedDad dont forget necromancer soloing champion too
The SW ele meme crossover i never knew i needed
Looking at it now I should included an arenanet image to anakin lol
I see a lot of engineers with their jade robot thing.
I honestly think engineer and elementalist are the least played for the same reasons.
They are great, but need to keep track of way more cooldowns and abilities.
Yes, this increased amount of abilities makes them both more flexible than other professions, but having a more laid back profession that has less actions per minute is way more enjoyable to play for longer amounts of time.
I think elementalist is played less, but that is only because mechanist exists, i think i see the other engineer specialisations about the same amount as elementalists, i mean come on when was the last time you saw a scrapper in your party?
I was always confused by Engi. I can play Ele just fine, but put me in an engineer and my brain just gives up lol (I think it's because, for elementalists, the different elements and the skills associated with them are straight forward and very easy to figure out even if you've never played an Ele before.... water=healing, so go to water if you need healing. Meanwhile, I don't know what the heck those different wrenches and kits mean for engineer, so it takes more effort for me to be familiar with what each thing does).
I think people don't give engineer the "it's a complex class" as much as Ele simply because of its armor weight. Maybe people find that being able to lay down turrets that fire for you to be easy, but Ele also has access to elemental golems. Unlike the thief and mesmer (save for certain specs), Ele has access to a good amount of survivability and I'd say more so now than Engi.
People definitely get intimidated by how many buttons you have in front of you when it comes to Ele, but I find it far more forgiving for that reason. You need healing? You have a whole bar of it. You want movement plus stuns and knockback? Another whole bar. I certainly agree though that the amount of actions and choices isn't as appealing for long term play.
What's your best necro build for pve?
Based on what I see on my server, this is where I'd place them from most-least played:
1. Necromancer
2. Ranger
3. Mesmer
4. Guardian
5. Mechanist (er...Engineer)
6. Revenant
7. Thief
8. Warrior
9. Elemenatlist
I could be way off on some of these, but I see hardly any Warriors, unless they're Spellbreakers. I see them getting leveled, but rarely see them in the exp maps.
Mesmer used to be less popular, IIRC, but I see SO MANY Mirages and Virtuosos running around. There's still some Chonos here and there. Maybe they just stick out more because they're pink, lol.
I am a brand new player and can't decide between Warrior, Ranger, and Guardian lol. The Ranger and Guardian both appeal to me for the exact reasons you stated.
I'd say for the experienced I'd like guardian over ranger. I like the heavy armor compared to mediun
@@CaffeinatedDad So far I have a Norn Warrior I am going to level normally and used one of my 2 boosts on a Guardian. Just did some pvp as a Guardian with my friend using a random core build I found with Staff and Mace+Shield. Just spamming abilities not knowing exactly what they did got me most kills and healing and won several games lol.
Necro main since lunch I'm slowly moving to mesmer , mesmer and is elites specs can be loods of fun in all aspects of game ,fun fact some solo major bosses are done by mesmers (disclaimer really really pro players)but I'm having lots of fun mobility is a must for me necromancer is meh in mobility, also the lack of stability also a big meh, play what brings you fun and I recommend to swap to a different class or even different spec if it becomes boring ,it will bring fun back
I have seen quite a bit of content. What are your thoughts on best pairs in PVE? Subscribed now, so if you do it then do it. Thanks
I'm not normally a necromancer guy in MMOs, but necro is pretty fun in GW2.
I'm surprised you didn't put mechanist. Maybe its just because they stand out more because of the mech but I can't walk a single step in lion's arch without meeting a mechanist.
Willbender is my boi. Just so much fun to play, even when it got nerfed into the mists…
Willbender is actually good fun to play tbh, fast and furious in the best way
@@CaffeinatedDad yeah, I have tried a lot of other classes and specs and just keep coming back to Willbender 😎🥰
My main is ele and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. Sometimes you get murdered before even casting a few spells. Fun, fast paced class, but a gust of wind can be the end. 😂
Oh agreed! I got completely doused by a full zerkers soul beast the other day. It was brutal!
Yep I love the high risk/ high reward and fast pace of D/D weapon set. I haven't paid for PoF yet, but want to try the weaver.
I think guardian is also popular because it is well designed and the abilities feel impactful.
Agreed! Also alot of people like the paladin/holy warrior feel too!
@@CaffeinatedDad I actually started on an elementalist back in the day and went into guardian because of latency issues (oceanic player).
Looking to get back into it again and get away from wow for a while. Got Starlink now so back to elementalist ;)
@@CaffeinatedDad Definitely me. My overall favorite is usually playing a Wizard type class but I don't really enjoy elementalist in GW2, even though I always love the idea of a melee wizard but it's just not doing it for me in GW2. I think it's because it is a bit too fast, squishy and feels complex to me. At least, as a new/returning player. If I were to do anything with it, I'd just be fire wizard. so I go to my secondary pick, paladin guardian. Plus, I love the aesthetics/designs of it with all the blue lights. Plus, I have the option to be a Ranger which is another one of my favorites so it's quite a package deal for me.
I'm heavily biased, as my first, and favorite class, is Elementalist. The constant nerfing and changes made to the class didn't make me stop playing Elementalist; it made me stop playing the game. I still log from time to time, do some content here and there, and then quit for a year. I'll probably come back if the class is ever made viable again, or goes a significant amount of time without seeing a completely unnecessary nerf, but I somehow doubt that happens.
Well...consider that the highest benchmark dps comes from weaver😒😒😒.
You could build one with full marauder, decent hp and still outdamage most classes eh
As a ele main i totally agree with the memes it hurts tho🥲😭
Lmao pain
i have played a Necromancer since day 1 and am in love with my reaper.. I have never been one to care about pulling top dps.. I just want to have fun playing and my reaper checks all the boxes.. I was a warlock in wow for 13 years... coming to gw2 a necro looked like a warlock but as it turns out I sem to be a deathknight as a reaper,, whatever,, its super fun and I outlive 99% of the other people in events with me.
Lonely Ele here lol. Wont ever switch though. Love it too much.
I'm just going off of popularity and time played since launch!
@@CaffeinatedDad you’re completely right though. Those 3 are very common.
Nothing bests being a scrapper , rocket jumping arround with perma superspeed and quickness 😂😂 joinking trough
Scrapper just thematically fits so damn well lol
Does the guardian still have great healing and damage?
Based on player stats, the least amount of playtime is on Revenant at 5.53%, then Engineer at 7.10%, but when it comes to the amount of created characters, Engineer is the least created profession at 9.65% total characters then Revenant at 9.97%.
Exactly! Ironically though you cannot go anywhere without seeing 50 mechanists!
That's based on GW2Efficiency, that's not really true
@@CaffeinatedDad mechanists changed the dynamic of Engineer a lot.
Made them very accesible, fun and viable.
Before the mechanist engineer was probably the least played by far.. lol
although it was pretty important in WvW zug zug fights.
I play a condition damage turret bunker engineer.. if thats what you call it, but so many gadgets, tools, CCs, gun, bombs..ect And it is so fun to play.
And lets be honest, Necromancers are just healers...with bad timing
I would put engineer on this list as well. In the past it was one of the if not the one least played classess in the game. But ever since the mechanist released, I just can't go 5 seconds without seeing one.
It's because the pet stands out, mechanist really boosted the engineer numbers. But it's nothing like the apocalypse that people make it out to be.
Necromancer, specifically Reaper, is my favorite profession. I like being a spooky specter of death that sounds like a basic white guy trying to inquire about your car's extended warranty.
Also 2:43
7 minutes... SEVEN MINUTES FOR ENTIRE ELE BULLY
Hello new player here. Where did you get you’re Mesmer/marage skin? It is so clean I must get.
Hmmmm my most recent Mirage look? From my stream?
@@CaffeinatedDad yes! You have it on a lot of vids. Has a faceless look. How can I obtain!
Surprised not to see engineer here, when in group content my groups are 60% engineers in some form, I also play engineer lol
Ele main here, feel the power of raw element...power? I was going somewhere with that.
I bet it sounded awesome lol
@@CaffeinatedDad it really did, epic I swear ;) but yeah elementalist from day one, love the class. I switch between liking tempest and weaver but your catalyst videos have me wanting to explore them a bit more.
Not gonna lie... havent played but about 2 months of launch back in the day.... wanting to come back and have my eye on greatsword herald... looks simple and clean
Oh and it hits like a mack truck
I switch to necromancer after i seeing the reaper trailer for heart of thorns and also because i was bored with the warrior
Reaper is a whole ass reason to play the Necromancer!
I agree with Ranger being super popular, but outside of raids, Druid is unpopular. Usually I'm in the only Druid in a 50 person squad. I think it's because of the way tagging works. You can tag more mobs and deal more damage as Soulbeast (or Untamed, or Ranger) whereas being a dedicated healer to a squad doesn't reward you as much. Sometimes I get "Bronze" or "Silver" rewards on Druid, but on Soulbeast, it's always "Gold."
Why I stopped at "hello."
i feel people who get a druid know what they need, not a quirky class but god in raids
@@icata12345 It's funny, I made this comment before Condi Druid became a viable build, and now it's pumping big damage and doing incredibly well. Condi Druid is eating good and Alac Heal Druid just got buffed. Credit where credit is due, Druid is getting some well deserved love.
The distinction of "all intents and purposes" is impor Ent to sound articulate :)
i'm a WoW Veteran that also many many years ago bought GW2 when it was new, played the Vanilla GW2 lvled alot of 80s geared them got some shit, and Quit. Started playing WoW again, and is bored of it, and never actually understood GW2 well, so downloaded it to Steam this time, actually bought the first 2 expansions, boosted up a Theif as my main, and lvling up a Reavent or what they are called. Have the Raptor, Jumper, and Skimmer mount now :)
After a while a learned I could have my old account on Steam as well, but it was too late, so I just sended my gold from my old account to my new one :P
but I also wanted a fresh start on GW2 cuz when I log into the old one I never know what i should do xD
For Guardian, aside from the versatility, it feels good to like.. wield both "Physical" and "Magical" power.. a whole complete set of class
Started as Ranger ended up a Necromancer became a staff Reaper
