Bought myself a Bodhran, after searching for some lessons and tips and tricks, I stumbled upon this video. By far the best lesson on YT! Very clear, very well explained and filmed, thank you so much :-) At slow tempo all works well for me, at higher tempo it becomes sloppy. But that's practice, it'll come :-)

My bodhran has a cross at the back so its very hard to do the top pop. I'm new to playing this instrument but enjoying your videos. I am practicing every day. You are such a talented woman its a pleasure watching you and learning from you.

When listening to Irish music, I sometimes would prefer that this drum to be louder. I enjoy the primal sound of drum and it gets lost in the other instruments sound.

Love it - any chance you could show a clip side on of you playing 'bass/pop' at about 11 minutes, but side on so can see the face of the drum? Id like to see where you are hitting the skin but its hard to see where you are getting the 2 different sounds from -front on it doesn't look like there is much distance between the two locations, but on my drum I have to move about 6 inches and right on to the very edge to get anything like the pop. Anywho - very good - great lessons :)

I really like the way you hold your tipper using a neutral wrist. I worry that I’ll get carpal tunnel syndrome using bent wrist technique, but the pen style grip doesn’t seem to work for me with a straight wrist. I’m going to try your grip instead. Thanks!
Do you have a recommended tipper for beginners? It seems like most teachers and professionals on UA-cam play with a tipper that has a bunch of sticks tied together at the end not a solid end. The two that I got with my bodhrán both just have solid round ends.
You dont you put your hand flat? Just curious because the way i learned an almost flat hand in the bass sound, no hand but touching just the body is the open sound and hitting in between the index and thumb is the pop

Hi Dennis, Do you mean on the drum or the tipper? The tipper is drummer's grip tape. It helps me hold the tipper better. The tape on the drum is to help with the vibrations/overall sound. Yes, it most definitely changes the sound - makes it warmer and more controlled.
This video really confused me, the tone of my drum was really similar in the first video but in this video your drums sounds much wetter with alot of attack and deeper. Is this because of size? I'm using a 15inch drum.
Hi Tek P, which first video do you mean (so I can double check)? My drum is tuneable so perhaps I tuned it higher/lower. The environment (room temperature, weather, sweat) will change the tone of the drum. Comparing to a guitar, fiddle, etc tuning a bodhrán won't be exact every time. It's more of a preference and, for me, the tune I'm accompanying.
Hi Colin, it depends on your preference. Just make sure is not completely loose and the skin looses all tension. You can find this if the sound is dead and the skin is floppy. Hope it helps!
Personally I think it is possible and awesome! I've played along with Indian, Spanish, African, jazz, pop, and bluegrass bands and I absolutely loved it!

why would that make you angry? she's probably put in countless hours of practice. many people don't consider all the hard work that goes into doing something well. but if you truly enjoy what you're doing, it doesn't seem like work at all. maybe drums just aren't your thing? that's okay, there are loads of different instruments out there.
How's your playing been? The main thing to focus on is this is part of a lesson and it guides you along and shows you how to practice. Just keep doing it slowly until it keeps a steady tempo.

Hi Joshua, Stevie Moises has great tippers. My favourite is the Jazz MO but he also has solid double ended ones.
