My Nail Journey-Growing Natural Nails after damage from Acrylics/Gels

  • I hope my nail journey video will help so many of you out there. This was more of an experiment for me to get my nails back on track from all the damage. As I have said before in my videos, once you grow your natural nails to the length you like it is difficult to go back to wearing gels or acrylics for long periods of time. Growing your natural nails is NOT impossible, but it does take patience, the right products and most of all CONSISTENCY that is key. Just like you do refills with acrylics/gels on a regular basis , you must give similar attention to natural nails in order to keep them on track.
Some women have no problems growing their natural nails out, while women like me who have problematic nails like (splitting, chipping, dryness peeling brittle nails) , find it more difficult to achieve the desired results. But with patience and consistency I have found it can be done . I will have several update videos coming up in the next few months and I will go through those challenges and show you all the problems my nails encounter while they grow out. There are set backs ,but once they get to a decent length , the key is to just maintain them .
Thank you to all who have messaged me with questions about nail problems after the removal of prolonged wear of gels or acrylics. I hope my video has helped so many of you out there.

Jojoba oil is the best oil to use for your nails because it is the only one that can penetrate the nail plate. It is the most similar to your body's natural oils

To all of the people complaining and saying that all of these things aren't necessary, you're probably correct because she DID say "another treatment that you COULD do"!!! She's giving various alternatives.

OMG i finally found it! I saw this video a year ago and you changed my life but i never got to thank you. I was always a nail biter until i saw your video. I found some old nail oil I got given once, to use before i bought some more. My nails haven't looked better ! Thank you so much for this amazing video. I am more calm and confident with long strong nails and my family take me even more seriously when I say I am good at nail art !

This looks nicer than my one time acrylics. The girl that removed them took more than 50% of my nails off. It hurt to just touch my nail.

After years of wearing acrylics, I developed an intolerance. My cuticles were on fire and peeling. I did silk for a long time after that and again had problems. Now I keep them natural and take 2000mcg of biotin every day. My nails are pretty strong with very occasional tears. Your video is very helpful.

    • @AnnasNailArtBeautyTravel

yes that can also happen. Which is why I wrote in the video that some people have sensitivity to the chemicals in the acrylics/gels. Biotin does help. I wish I could take it but it made me break out every time I took even the lowest dose. And thanks for watching glad my video helped.

You have a pretty natural nail to start with, such a luvly shape and light pink nail bed ,so pretty it makes me wonder why you would wear acrylics, but that's just my opinion,no offence meant and none taken I hope. Have luvd this tutorial v much as its real and down to earth, you have spoken clear and precise so its been easy to follow. I used to have v strong ,long nails many, many years ago and everyone used to say" look at your nails, fabulous" but no anymore since I got an autoimmune thyroid illness, 20 years ago and still got it for life,my nails are dreadful, never wore acrylics or gel either, they are weak, split down the nail, jagged etc ,so I shall try your advice etc and see if they improve. Thanks.

I do my own acrylic nails. But, I'm happier with lifting acrylic nails than I am with weak real nails, so I keep any filing or other damage to a minimum, I mean usually zero. And, I go long amounts of time between sets. Thankfully I learned to do my own, because NO ONE will do my nails in the way I like. Because they've learned the way everyone learns, file, file, file, oh and file some more.
Also, many of the topical things you use (garlic and oils for example), I like to take internally on a very regular basis. This also keeps your nails healthy. People think I'm nuts or a hippy, but I just like being healthy. Lol.
I use to have terrible, terrible nails. I actually like my nails, now.

    • @littlestbroccoli

Sweet Angel14 Smart. There is no such thing as a mineral or vitamin that soaks in through the skin, hair or nails, so actually eating these things is the only way to get them to the nail. Good job :)
One thing though, having lifting on your acrylics can be very dangerous. It will invite bacteria in when moisture gets trapped under those edges and provides a good environment for them to grow. I'd recommend making sure you at least have all the cuticle off the nail and have used dehydrator & primer before applying the acrylic, if you're trying to stay away from filing.

Diana Ghera mersi frumos.. . Its all about using the right products on natural nails to keep them healthy . For me I found that using base coats sau chiar lac transparent as base coat before the application of polish helps tremendously. And exposing your nails to as little nail polish remover as possible.. that also helps. But the most fundamental step is to keep them moisturized as often as possible. ;) Imi pare bine ca clipul meu a fost de a jutor.

You do however have to be careful when your nails are really dry and damaged, as to not overdo it with water and oils as it can cause lifting of the nail bed. You can also use a keratin-rich, penetrating strengthener during this process, make sure to use one that keeps flexibility and moisture retention xXx

All these videos talk about hydrating your nails so they are not dry and easy to break, but I have the OPPOSITE problem. My hands end up in water quite a lot and my nails are too soft; they start to peel up in thin layers at the ends, which makes them easy to snag on clothing or in my hair so they end up getting torn off. I do not tend to file or buff them at all because as soon as I do they get very ragged and start to peel. I have tried nail hardeners, but they chip and peel off within a couple of days. So what can I do?

I'm going to try this! Did 3 months of gel nails and I was so happy with the length of my nails - they always break and split and god knows what else. But because of cosplay I had to remove it, so I decided to remove it entirely for a while. The idea was actually to go back to it after the whole cosplay thing but I seriously had a horrible experience. Like, one of my nails cut.. in the meaty part of the nail, you know? Well, it hurt. They broke a lot, have a lot of those air pockets under the nails... the nails look pretty ugly. I was actually putting some nail polish and hardener because I thought it would be better (my mom did the same and it kinda worked) but I guess I was wrong so I will try using olive oil on my nails everyday and garlic at least once a week. And I am never putting gel on my nails again. Ever.
    Thank you!

I am going to give your method a whirl.
I was on Nexgen for over a year - I loved it! I dipped my natural nail, my nails grew like crazy but when the powder had to be taken off and reapplied, the underlying nail was weak and brittle. It was really just that coat of powder with the Vitamin E infused binder that made my nails grow like mad.
Now I am with little nubs of nails because they are splitting and shedding and growing upwards (I’ve already had blood work - no underlying medical condition - I know that upwards growing nails can be indicative of an iron deficiency). I’ve tried NailTek since then, more recently I started a Biotin nail strengthener.
I’m going crazy here! I absolutely hate this.

Thanks for this video can't wait for the update. I too am trying to grow my nails and get them heathy, though after years of biting and not from acrylics. Do you know if there are any different tips for people who used to bite their nails? I will probably try some of the things in your video. My nails have already come a long way I haven't bitten them in almost a month. Good luck on growing to us both. ;)

the best tip I can give you is to keep them polished and moisturized with cuticle oil . Once your nails get longer the temptation to bite them will be less and will stop all together. I used to be a nail biter but once my nails grew that stopped all together. I will be showing you the update videos and what I use soon so keep watching and maybe the tips in the next update video will help you too/.

There's gel polish that actually helps your nails after acrylics and one that strengthens your nails. Its called vitagel and it works wonders. I've been using it and its my the gel brand gelish.

I have a couple nails with vertical splits. My nails grow out and then the split shows up. I have oiled, used gardeners and glue. I've even done the tea bag patch. Nothing seems to help it heal. Any ideas??

is it the extensions that cause these problems? Or all gel polishes as well? Cool and informative! Love the garlic oil idea!

Fallon Franklin i heard that it's not the actual acrylic powder or chemical, (excluding MMA acrylic, that is very dangerous) it's because of all the filling they do to prep the nails and the dehydrator used before applying the acrylic. And I don't believe she is talking about gel polish, I think shes talking about actual gel nail extension.

Videos like this one are extremely important for ladies who love getting extensions. My nails are quite thin from overusing nail extensions. My thumb in particular is quite sore now but they have reached the half way mark. So hopefully I can get back to using nail extensions responsibly.

Thank you so much for this video. I just took off my gels a day ago and didn't have them for very long (3 months to be exact), but because of constant re-applying gels (every two-three weeks) when unnecessary and ripping/peeling the gels off (done at the nail salon), it has left my nails pretty weak and fragile. The first time I ever got my nails soaked off was yesterday at the salon. That was the first time I went to a salon and they took the time to soak them off rather than pry them off the nail. I was unaware of gels and the wrong and right way to do it. I basically did everything that was wrong lol. And now my nails are damaged because of it. Luckily I stopped now before it got any worse. My question for you is, where did you get the cuticle oil you are using in your video? It says it's scented and I would really love to moisturize my nails daily with that type of moisturizer. Also, will daily moisturizing and time bring my nails back to it's original strength? (my nails grew very long and were strong...I really didn't need acrylic/gel nails to begin with). Thank you so much for your time and help :)

If you wash your hands in COLD water after using it, it gets rid of the smell. I cook with garlic a lot and I read this tip somewhere, (I forgot where). But honestly, try it. It works. Xxx

Hi, I need a help. I am a woman who has been suffering from brittle nails for almost many years now. I have tried all tricks in the trade and nothing seems to be working. I was advised to be on a calcium rich diet and also take vitamin D supplements to help overcome the problem. However the problem never really got any better and over the past years it has been only getting worse. Frankly speaking, is there any which can be done to get my nails back to my original shape?

This video has been so informative! Thank you. I have been using pieces of garlic in an already Sally Hansen nail growth treatment for awhile. But I don't see that my nails are growing at all. I mean I'm a nail bitter and from how I had them the nail bed has grown. Can I put the pieces of garlic in a cutical oil bottle that I have also from Sally Hansen?

You are the best. So patient with all of the nail questions. My question is after using nail hardener nailtique 2 plus& growing out my nails beautifully, what strengthener brand do you recommend to ensure flexibility so that they won't become too brittle & break in the meat area?

    • @AnnasNailArtBeautyTravel
      @AnnasNailArtBeautyTravel  10 років тому

Its hard to say what to recommend because what works on my nails might not work on yours. I really like any of the Sally Hansen strengtheners like Miracle Cure, Complete Care Extra moisturizing... those are just 2 I can think of . The idea is that you have to try them out for at least 2 months to see if its the right one for you. If it works than stick with it.
