BATTLEFIELD 2042: Irish Trophy & AA Trap on Spearhead - Don't Get Caught Out!

- Irish is a Specialist in Battlefield 2042 (bf2042) who specialises in fortification, particularly using his Active Protection System (APS) 'Trophy' which intercepts the majority of Vehicle and Engineer projectiles. Recently, a strategy has emerged on the Asian Servers where the Russian side seizes the rooftop of Objective E1 which overlooks the US Air and Ground Spawn points. If an Irish player is able to set up, call in a CAV Brawler and let their team dig in, it can be Game Over very quickly indeed. Jets, Attack Helis, Nightbirds and more fall quickly.
This trap however is easily escapable, and in this video I'd like to show you how. Hopefully this will be of benefit to your future matches! If nothing else, something to do whilst we wait for Season 7 to drop!

Great explanation and a really powerfull position. A Mate is doing that most of the times when we play Spearhead but without the AP system. It's a very strong position up there. Nice explanations on how to get rid of them 👍 My favorite will always be the tank slapper :D Just sent them down flying, so they think twice about doing it again. Thanks for the shout out mate! Flying Squirrel changed my bf life. It is absolutely amazing how many silly things you can do as a single soldier when you’ve gotten familiar with the wing suit ;)

I just don't know why Dice allows vehicles to be spawned on top of buildings xD I thought we figured this out season ago, back when the breakthrough point on Kaleidoscope was at the top of the tower?
Thanks for figuring out a solution to this degeneracy! I'm all for the Irish APS trophys, but not when they are used for camping. I think they should probably detonate after use.
I mean for me the really BS thing is how close the trap point is to the spawn. I can see why this is catching out new players / pilots. It’s so easy to defeat but I just watch the masses crash against the rocks night after night I had to say something 😂
I think for me I’d like it if the Irish trophies had limited rounds & depleted, just like you’re saying. It would also be good if they could be overwhelmed by say a Hydra pod volley. Not completely useless but they can’t just stay there forever in the face of 16 rockets!

That trap is easily breakable if two jets and an attacking heli work together but that is rarely seen so yeah pretty op. Great ending by the way 😂

Great video. I would also recommend pairing with a hovercraft equipped with the AA gun. Dual AA guns absolutely wreck aircraft. Also, with the hovercraft, you have powerful anti-infantry guns on the sides should any squirrels or infantry show up. I like to keep it away from the Brawler and keep moving it around. That way it's hard for them to anticipate where to fire Liz rockets or pop up aircraft.
I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for it! I found when the squishes are up there I can take them pretty easily with a 25mm jet cannon. If I’m on the roof team, why not? Give it a try

Solo,I'd prly c5 my own Pondhawk and drop it on you from an unexpecting angle (which is obviously the East side from their spawn or rather that Building's side)
Once you are 2 guys working together you can always clear that roof - as you so eloquently explained here :D

Thing is,I was thinking about doing Commentary too in the future,not a native Speaker,but that shouldn't be a problem,I am living "american" my whole life and self taught from very early on,so I'm kinda fluent I guess (talking is of course a little different than just typing...)

Hey sorry I just saw this one - yeah I’m in Singapore so that puts me something like 7 hours ahead of you (does Germany do summer / winter clock adjustments?). Linking up is possible as I do it with friends back in London but we cannot leave it to chance - it only works if you set a time to be there (I’m randomly up at 2am 😂). Also if I’m on your server I’m pretty much only good for Rao spotting and Angel reloading due to the lag. I don’t mind just what it is.
Cool that’s your thing on videos. Audio does a lot to add to a video, I was very apprehensive at first too but you get over it. Give a try, what’s the worst that can happen?

Great strat! Not tried it but i imagine this can also be countered by a stealth heli with tow missiles and the 30mm if the stealth helis gunner opens with the emp shot but the apache strat is proberably way easier
I tried the stealth heli. Yea the 30mm can bypass but it’s hard to hit. Also a high risk of being caught out if you stray too low. The EMP is all but useless now since the changes Dice really needs to rethink the gunner chair
Great video as always. I never play Irish, but withh mess around with him. KrazyK does some fun stuff and I enjoy his play. Squid G is the ultimate Sundance. With respect to KrazyK, nothing wrong with being 2nd.
It’s worth a try, can be fun. Knul is such a nice guy to talk to / interact with, and honestly I think he’s pretty toe to toe with Squid G on skill. I wouldn’t want to put money on who would come out on top in a spawn camper hunting competition!! For completeness I’m sure SG is a nice guy too, I’ve jsut never spoken to him 😂🤪

Another great video! think they need to take out the Tanks from the laptop. Should only be transport.
It’s like anything, in many situations being able to call in a vehicle doesn’t matter too much, but in others it can break the game. Remember when we had to capture the top of a skyscraper on breakthrough with 32 people covering 4 elevators & every AA conceivable watching the sky?! This wouldn’t be so bad if the trap point wasn’t right in the US side’s face & there were ways onto the roof which didn’t require an aircraft!
Irish trophy or not a clan called the RAM's here in the US just did this Spearhead Trap yesterday and it was tough to beat. They were up there most of the game, at one point they had a CAV, MBT, LATV w/ 20MM flak cannon equipped and like 10 guys....lol. I was basically back in spawn with Lis the whole game, raining TGM's down on them, then I had 2 other Lis's join me and we finally got rid of them.
It's a pain isn't it -- still going on even after the Irish trophy nerf!

@@timelessgamer_UK Wow, if that's the case, they really nerfed the hell out of that...!! Seems like any time aircraft pilots cry about something, its get nerfed but yet just ignore Wildcat players who have been calling for APS for ages. The overall balance between vehicles and infantry isn't too horribly bad but could be better with a few simple changes IMO..... give the WC APS, put AA guns(that can be destroyed and repaired by engineers) in all bases, completely get rid of C5 but increase the number of AT grenades one can carry, make vehicles have to resupply ammo.

Seriously though I’ve seen this strategy and Wildcat + Trophy set up so much since patch 5.3 buffed the Attack Helis and Jets getting buffed in season 6. Aircraft are too powerful to go unchecked, and no matter how hard I try to play other roles I always get pulled back in because NOBODY ON MY TEAM IS FIGHTING THEM 😂😂😂

I was playing Conquest on the Renewal map yesterday, the enemy had 3 ace pilots who just patrolled the spawn point on the desert side and eliminated any one and any vehicle that spawned there in seconds, we lost 900-0.....lol. People hate vehicle campers that farm aircraft but that's what happens no one on a team does it.
Fair, I mean I completely understand why we’re seeing the rise of Irish campers. Air power is way too much in this game, especially when in the hands of players who’re at the top of their game & coordinating. Sometimes it just doesn’t come together - players lacking experience picking the air vehicles (not a crime at all, just unfortunate timing), someone puts a 40mm on the Wildcat and the such. It can definitely happen.
@@timelessgamer_UK I was trying to spawn a Wildcat as Irish and quickly set down his trophy's, trying to protect it so I could hop in and start firing but was killed within seconds as soon as I entered the vehicle. I now see that the hate for Wildcat campers is so stupid, clearing the skies is an absolute necessity. The average player who goes out trying to capture objectives with a Wildcat usually lasts about 30 seconds..... tanks, MAV, CAV, those should be the ones leading the charge. I will go out of my way to support Wildcat campers from now on, even if just to drop a trophy or act as a gunner watching for sneaky C5 guys, my hate for Nightbird scum is real....lol.
I hear you, honestly the best thing you can do on a Wildcat is to put the 60mm Flak pod on the Gunner seat. One of those to the face of a NB and it’s done. 30mm rounds also bypass Irish trophies so they’re of limited use if the pilots are “awake”.
I have a feeling changes are coming in Season 7, but the absolutely best weapon against what you’re describing is Lis. I’ve got loads of vids on her up, she can obliterate anything (which is why Pilots are campaigning so hard to get her changed). That or if you have a crew, a two person Rao / Crawford M5 squad. Vehicles won’t be able to escape 3 Jets and a NB if your team is not working together. I’m a good pilot but there’s no way I could possibly escape from that degree of pressure.
Ultimately it’s down to your team & how much they weigh in to help. One player can only do so much!
@@timelessgamer_UK Let me ask you this, your a Wildcat driver, who is the most valuable passenger to you, Rao who could get out and hack or SOFLAM enemy aircraft....Irish who can get out and put his trophy down.....or Crawford who can get out and repair...if everyone is equally as good of a gunner...who would you rather have...??

I just read in patch 7.2 notes that apparently this won’t be a thing anymore. Irish Trophy won’t take out anti vehicle weapons anymore.

Squid g is another master of Sundance. Ever seen a fly by 360 sniper shot? Or fly by sniper then 180 throwing knife then continue to fly? Rondezuke with rockets? C5? AT mines?
I’ve seen Knul do all these things regularly - I am starting my Sundance journey. Not worthy to stand alongside those two but one day I’ll get there!
@@timelessgamer_UK Flying around in a wingsuit, killing people with throwing knives for YT highlights does not really sound like your game.....seems like your more about capturing/holding objectives and killing enemy armor/aircraft....you know those things that actually help your team win..!!

This is actually very very true - I addressed it in my Apache Balance video. Air power has gone too far, it’s natural people are looking for ways to stay alive.
Well said, I saw that yesterday, if you have enemy ace pilots with complete air superiority, your team is going to be hurting big time. Need some AA guns at the spawn points or something, like the ones in BFV, otherwise its hard to counter a good nightbird pilot.
Man i hate the Nightbirds, i wanna know how you deal with Nightbird pros?
There’s 3 ways - which do you want to know?
1) defeat them with Attack Helis
2) Lissile them with Lis
3) Army of 2 with SOFLAM and launcher?

Ok so not getting nerdy but first of all, the server tick is different in 64 vs 128, it’s slightly slower in the larger games. Latency is everything with a Lissile, yours and also the person you shot at. At my home server I get 2ms, playing in Australia 92ms and in the East Coast US about 240 to 260.
I’m glad it helped, stick with it and you’ll have it down in no time. Be warned though I have a sneaking feeling Dice are going to roll out some BIG changes for Lis in 7.0, let’s see… good luck!

Completely agree. But I am amazed even again last night how many rounds pass without anyone doing it. It does feel like it’s always me who has to dig these players out. Dropping in an Engineer can be done for sure but it is a little bit harder due to the slow descent. That said in the chaos on a messy roof fight, anyone could potentially slip through…

Moving the spawn back 100m would at least give people some chance. The Factory cube is way too close and basically gives the Russian side a huge advantage. Hope this helps ppl out.

if they would not allow vehicles to be spawned on buildings, this crap would not be so powerful. On any map, vehicles should only be spawn on the ground, period
Much of the time I’d say spawning on top of a building is a disadvantage for the team, as it can’t push objectives. It can be a problem on maps like Renewal where someone puts a TOR on top of the E1 / E2 building. But for all that yeah, I don’t disagree the game wouldn’t lose a lot by simply removing the ability to do it.

Yep - just saw the news today. Good riddance to it, but Wildcats should be given APS (not necessarily related but a long standing argument of mine)

I hear what you’re saying and of course there’s no guarantee the other 60 people on the trap team won’t completely drop the ball at taking advantage of what this trap can give. All I can say from painful experience is I’ve seen many a team lose the round due to lack of air power, and all it cost was a CAV & a few players. Personally I would never leave it up, just my take.

Btw when you come back for Season 7 the T4N guys are really nice & good heli hunters. They’re not sweats at all. Also share our joy of hunting certain players. They’re very good to have around.
But just go capture the flags and win the game lol 😆 play the objectives . If people focus you on the roof they are wasting time whilst your team is spawning in a truck where effectively 2 people can operate and your losing other flags whilst surrendering to being stuck on the roof lol.
Fair point but counter argument - the limited people up top are denying the entire Air Force of the other team & raining down shots on spawning ground vehicles. By the time you reach D1 you’re damaged and hopelessly outgunned! I’ve seen it go both ways!

True, we lost that particular round - I can’t help what goes on below & what our pilots were / weren’t doing. Objectives are King absolutely, sometimes you can give your all and still end up taking the L. As I say, I’ve seen it go all sorts of ways and typically a team that gets pinned in their spawn like that get slaughtered. Who’s to say, put 132 players in a sandbox and anything can happen, one of the reasons I love the game :)
