After replacing a couple dodgy capacitors the set started to show signs of life. Here I'm stumbling around trying to work out what on earth is going on with it. www.paypal.com...
I have problems with this type of flat flex cables as you say can be a pain and almost impossible to repair. Sometimes reseating the ribbon fixes the problem. I have also run a repair wire separate to the ribbon in the past. Thanks for sharing. Give the chicken my best regards Chris
Hi Chris. I was really worried that I might damage the flex cables but luckily they survived. I think if I had to then I could possibly have wired some ribbon cable in its place but that would have been a nightmare. The chickens are a bit skittish at the moment as Mr fox has been about but will pass on your regards when I let them out in a bit. Thanks for watching. All the best Graham
I have a manual for the 2001D if you need any info. Common faults are the flex print interconnects between the boards, the second oscillator Crystal, and the rubber button contacts. Airband wasn't fitted to them all, even if it does appear to do it. As I recall there is something in common between FM and air, like the oscillator covers the same range or something like that. They are a fantastic hf receiver, even now giving a very good account of themselves just on the telescopic antenna.
Thanks for the info on Alan and the offer of help. I won't say much as there's loads more footage to come yet. I did manage to buy a genuine service manual which helped a lot. They are lovely radios and I have a couple myself. Thanks for watching. Graham
Also, thanks for the info.
Hope all is well your end Graham, and once again, thanks for your generous offer of help with my Sinclair DM2. Have not had a chance to look at multimeter, but if I find a chip, or transistor that is hard to find I will call upon your help. The person who never made a mistake, never made anything (and by the Jewish God, I've made a few myself LOL!!) Warmest regards, Wayne and Nina.
Hope all is well your end Graham, and that you are not working too hard :O To keep you up to speed with my accidentally damaged Sinclair DM2, it seems that the AY-5-3507 (multimeter on a chip) is at fault. Unfortunately, it seems that these chips are now as rare as Rocking Horse manure. However, after spending over £50 on this piece of equipment so far, I do not feel like slinging it in the bin. Could you possibly help in trying to source these rare components? Otherwise, a lovely rare old piece of test equipment, which to my mind is far nicer than either a Hacker or a Roberts radio, has got to be chucked in the bin. Warmest regards, Wayne and Nina.
Hi Wayne and Nina. Drop me an email on graham@radiocruncher.com and I will see what I can do. All the best Graham
This is very interesting to watch. A trip down memory lane and all its meandering turns. Just a maze of hidden stumbling blocks for you to jockey around, hey mate?
It certainly gave me the run around Lee and was one of the most complex and difficult radios that I have worked on to date
It look's like it Graham. You certainly have made it a proper show stopper as far as audio fidelity and sensitivity is concerned. I hope to keep this radio as my pride and joy thank's to you my friend.
Could you have a cold solder joint? Hairline fracture? It's almost like a thriller, who done it! Or in this case...what! :) ~Jack, VEG
It’s a murder mystery Jack! Who killed her? All will be revealed. Thanks for watching. Graham
Off down the rabbit hole Graham,

Thanks for the link. Nice work
you hit the "execute" button by accident and the radio sprung to life. You have to hit execute after punching in the frequency. There was nothing wrong with the radio. You seem knowledgeable, just not with this sony model.......Larry
Hi Larry. I get so many different radios in for repair that I struggle to learn how to use all the functions. I did howeve get it sorted in the end with a replacement crystal which sorted it. Thanks for watching
He did say he owned 2 of these radios, one worked, the other did not. I think Radiocruncher already knew the execute button was necessary to operate the radio.
Sabes o NO sabes?
