      Do use fluorocarbon or mono? When you down size your line.

    Wow I learned a lot from this video I always used 8-10 pound line I’ll definitely be using 1-2 for now on. This year will be the second year for me ice fishing I’m 40 miles from Okoboji.

    Thanks....Great video....it addresses the exact scenario we've been experiencing the last 3 weeks or so. Today spent 4 hours at Prairie Rose, 2 hours at Lake Anita and an hour at a favorite farm pond....without a single fish. Been running 4 & 6 lb line which worked well in December and January....So....Off to Walmart or Bass Pro at first light to get some 1 & 2 lb....and smaller jigs. Havent seen or used Spikes....just Wax worms and minnows....Hoping for one Big Day before this seasons a wrap....tick tock...probably only 3 -4 days in West central Iowa. Thanks again...and tight lines.

    I tell ya Jason NE Indiana is that same kind of bite. Mark fish, they follow it just frustrating. It is all in the details like you say. Have you ever chummed with a net bag of spikes? Probably not legal I assume but just another thought. Was finally able to do some sight fishing last year and could not believe some of the fish that would just look at it. No matter what I did they would lose interest and disappear. Anyway all the info. you can give us on those tough bites would be awesome! Keep up the great videos! Praying for early ice!!

      Thanks for following. Chumming is legal in some states and we have experimented with it some. Have seen it work really well for trout. Would think that it would work in some situations for panfish as we have been following the European anglers and their chumming tactics. Definitely something we are going to have play with in the future where legal.

    Gold jigs tend to do the trick at okaboji

    Jason its looks like you prefer spinning rods of a little longer length when you're jigging those short rods from the split in the grip! or did Dave make you use those short straight lines? and nice JIG dangling off your sweatshirt arm! PRO STORAGE.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  3 роки тому

      I like the shorter rods on really tough finesse bites or when I am aight fishing. I find the shorter rods Lee keep everything closer to my eyes for watching really light bites. I also use the shorter rods inside a one man shelter. I have jigs dangling all over!😀

      We didn’t target them on this trip but did film a Yellow Bass episode on Clear Lake a few winters ago.

    Do you use fluorocarbon? When you down size your line.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  4 роки тому +1

      I really like running straight fluorocarbon when I have to downsize to two pound test. Love the low stretch and the abrasion resistance.

    Locals know that cameras pay off big on this lake.....funny these "pro" people don't have double vision vexilars.......only way to go on this lake. Then you can watch the sonar to pick off suspended fish like crappie and watch the light bite gills when they hit the bait

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  6 років тому +3

      We agree that Cameras work well and we played with it. Ultimately, we decided on the strategy of having a milk run of good holes where we simply rotated holes every twenty minutes as it seemed like we would pop a few better fish right away out of a rested hole. We could have sat over those holes with a camera and sorted through fish as well. Both strategies will work. The lake was quiet enough when we were fishing where we had a good area to roam so we moved around more.
