it never ceases to amaze me how so much emotion can be drawn out of something so simple. the start of this is simply two chords - but the arrangement creates something so much greater than the sum of its parts. i have always believed that Varg, no matter what you may think of him otherwise, is somewhat of a musical genius - absolutely nobody else can match him for raw emotion. Simon, as always, thank you for making this!
Thrash 'til Death He bars all strings on the 7th fret and holds the 9th fret on the A and d string. E= 7th fret A= 9th fret d= 9th fret G= 7th fret And you just move this shape down half a step
Hey Simon, love your videos! I've been trying to learn the Burzum songs using your videos and Varg's. I was wondering -- is it better to learn the song at, say, quarter speed while tremolo picking 4 times for each note (like at 2:36); in other words, playing the song correctly but only at quarter speed, then increasing to full speed as I get the hang of the tremolo picking. OR Should I try to play it at full speed but just strum once per note (like at 5:03), then work up to the 2 or 4 picks per note at full speed (like at 1:59)? I'm leaning towards the first option but just was wondering on your take on it...
Eli Davis Hi mate. everyone is different so maybe try both ways for a couple of days and see which one works best for you. I always practiced the technique, before the song so that the song was a lot easier.
Ah, good answer! I think I'll definitely have to feel it out myself but I think technique is important -- I'll have to improve my tremolo picking either way... :P Thanks!
+Simon Smith your channel really helps im just 15 i have been playing guitar for like a bit over a year soon, its really much easier looking at your videos then tabs :) , but ofcourse if there isnt a song you have on a tutorial i check tabs! Have a great day Simon!
i've been trying to play this for 1 year but i suck at strumming without getting stuck in the strings with the pick and i have a problem with keeping the correct rhythm while alternate picking in slower tempos, do you have any tips how to practice it?
I have also struggled with tremolo picking for a while, now after tons of practice and by discovering smaller picks I am finally getting the hang of it
Same. I've been stuck at the same tempo for months on the minor chords. If I play fast I accidentally hit the adjacent strings and it sounds like crap.
If you have a tuner app that will measure in Hertz, here is the tuning
E- 84.85 Hz
A- 113.25 Hz
D- 151.2 Hz
G- 201.85 Hz
B- 254.25 Hz
e- 339.4 Hz
isnt this the default tuning
@@sandovisk2457 no, it's half a note sharp from standard
Thanks, that helped :)
varg is a fucking genius
Correct!!
Really

Thrash 'til Death He bars all strings on the 7th fret and holds the 9th fret on the A and d string.
E= 7th fret
A= 9th fret
d= 9th fret
G= 7th fret

Would you mind to tell in which key (scale) this piece is written?
they never say it, on every video..... but i think that the key is G or Phrygian b
or harmonic minor ..
Yeah the chorus just screams harmonic minor.
Great as always.Love to know the troll.
i've been trying to play this for 1 year but i suck at strumming without getting stuck in the strings with the pick and i have a problem with keeping the correct rhythm while alternate picking in slower tempos, do you have any tips how to practice it?
Smaller and hard pick, more tension on the strings and lots of faith
I have also struggled with tremolo picking for a while, now after tons of practice and by discovering smaller picks I am finally getting the hang of it

How do you descend after doing an upstroke?
do you know what pickups the gibson has?
Is this from the video Varg made?
+thegreenfaction Pretty sure it is. Very accurate.
Believe it or not some people can deduce how to play a riff by ear
@@Iliashun liar
Friend, how to tune guitar for this melody? I realy don't know, help please
+Ванька Ерохин I think I put it at the start of the video
EADGBE, but 1/4♭
So I honestly have no idea what a B Minor chord is, how do I make that shape?..
Burnt From low Strings To High.... X, 2, 4, 4, 3, 2 bar the 2nd fret with your 1st finger.
Simon Smith Thanks (:
Tabs??
which is the tune? EADGBE?
Viking Blood Varg Vikernes use just Half Step Down
Sadi Mehti actually he tuned half up. Between E standard and F standard
No. He says at the start.
EADGBE, but 1/4♭
Quarter step up
At 1:43 Varg should have made that specific note an E instead of an Eb
What is boezoom ?
It's something I stick in my ass on the third Wednesday of the month....
@@SimonSmithGuitar hahahaha.
Please the tuning?? Help me
Rody Kotzen standard
He literally shows at the start...
EADGBE, but 1/4♭
Subtitles in spanish please
Bro i can't find tabs like you play
why can't you just give the tabs,I can't see what strings you hold
Ragastiy BM I’d make you some tabs if I had a laptop right now lol
