The fact they went out of their way to make a bunch of original animations exclusively for the credits really shows you the animators had a great time making this movie. It's always nice to get rewarded for staying into the credits of a movie even if it's something simple like this. The first Madagascar I believe is an incredibly underappreciated movie even more then Megamind and El Dorado that are also considered "underappreciated" DreamWorks movies despite being brought up more nowadays then any of the Madagascar films. This franchise really deserves more love
Madagascar is an amazing movie because Alex starts out as cocky but he still cares about Marty Melman and Gloria he just views himself above them because he's the zoo's mascot, he later learns to appreciate them after even he not only almost killed them out of hunger but they didn't turn their backs on him when he needed them more than ever
@@jdmathews312 they wrote those characters and their relationship amazingly in that first movie. Even in the beginning yes Alex is very cocky and self centered he's not to an unlikable extent. They very easily could have made him ab asshole who didn't really care about the rest of the animals but they didn't. Despite how much he loves his life at the zoo the second he realizes Marty is gone he's sent into an instant panic looking all over for him even leaving the zoo with 0 hesitation, something he would never do on his own, just to find his friend and the same went for Gloria and Melman
Madagascar was a part of my childhood when I first saw it as a kid. The 2000s was a really awesome decade for Dreamworks. It got their first big winner for Shrek, which it won a Oscar for best animated feature film, Shrek 2 becoming the highest grossing animated film of 2004, and Kung Fu Panda becoming a phenomenon franchise with critics and fans loving it. I think so far that Dreamworks was the looney tunes of the 2000s decade. Madagascar will always be as a major classic film.

I feel that we should talk about the distribution when it came to DreamWorks. Basically, DreamWorks Animation was with it's main parent, DreamWorks Pictures, and they were both cranking out giants when they were together. Then Paramount came along and surprisingly, they still had a good batch of films. 20th Century Fox was then given the deed with kinda lead to the downfall of the studio. They almost went bankrupt, they basically just cared about making films for children than the whole family. Hence, Trolls and The Boss Baby. Then, Universal started distribution in 2019, and they did start off strong with HTTYD 3 . . . but they slowly still degraded. Keep in mind, Universal still owns Illumination at this point, so I'm pretty sure that was Universal's goal. To make DreamWorks' films for a "profit" without putting any love. Trolls 2 was meh, yet Universal was so gung ho on that franchise from that start (seeming how it felt like the new Minions. Cute sells.) and then the sequels of the other movies felt mediocre/okay/good. Whatever happened? I'll tell you what happened. The studios saw DreamWorks as only a animation studio made for making films for children. DreamWorks with the help of Fox and Universal made DreamWorks where it is today: playing it safe and keeping it child-friendly. Fox and Universal destroyed a powerhouse and basically made it safe. After listening to this, it begs you the question . . . "What would happen if DreamWorks Animation went solo?"
Well, I think Fox-distributed Dreamworks hit its peak in 2014, as we got Mr. Peabody & Sherman, How to Train Your Dragon 2, and Penguins of Madagascar, all of which I'm fond of, and are all movies I like.

I worked at the movie theater when this came out. We couldn't go in to clean the theaters during these credits because kids refused to leave. The entire theater would explode into a rave for children when this lemur turned up. Fists pumping, Cheerios flying, tongues out. The way the kids got so worked up you'd think they were on ecstasy or something. This song was pure crack for kids. By the time they filed out their hair would be wet and they'd be soaked in sweat. The theater would be completely trashed. I loved it. I also enjoyed cleaning up to the Hans Zimmer theme which I remember thinking was too good for the movie. It's pretty awesome reading all these comments and seeing y'all nostalgic for it.

Melman, Maurice, Mort, and the penguins dances are my favorites.
And I had a thought: What if the song 'Strange Animal' by Gowan played during the credits instead?
My favorite character from the movie credits, dancing to The Madagascar song, I like to move it, I like to move it. I love the way how Gloria, the Hippo, drops and dances, and shakes her butt a little bit.
This is my favorite part of the Madagascar movie
Legendary song!!!

DreamWorks was perfect with Paramount until their deal expired
wut
They have universal now! What could happen?
Well, Paramount didn’t want to renew because after the success of Rango, they decided they’d rather have their own animation studio and make their own animated films than distributing another animation studios’. That is the origin of Paramount Animation.
please make sure this plays at my funeral
