She’s right though. That one song did squash her career significantly even though it’s the thing that gave her the career. It’s a double edged sword. That Single was so successful radio wouldn’t play anything else off of that album when they tried to release it because they were still playing “a thousand miles” and even by the time her second record came out they still wouldn’t play the singles off of that because that’s the first single from the first record was still getting high rotation. That Has to be maddening for an artist
None of her other songs were in the same league tho tbh and there was much more exciting stuff coming out from other female artists. Can't really blame the company for that.

I was about 7 when the song came out, my older sisters kept it on replay for months. It brought us some much happiness. Now that I listen to it as an adult, I feel so many emotions and I often find myself crying. Brings back good memories. And the lyrics, oh my god. So simple and so effective. Things just didn't pop up and disappear so fast back then. But having that 3 year or so gap between the two really helped cement that song into memory. Just as it was fading out of "new music" territory, it's thrust right back in.
