Yeah, this episode was very producer heavy! Didn't know we were gonna go that deep into the producer side, but I really couldn't forget about my producers! You guys are the gems of the creatives!
Thank you so much for the great information you both provided! Came across part one randomly on UA-cam and thought I'd give it a watch. As a young, aspiring artist myself, this was definitely great information to hold on to! definitely will be checking out more of the channel!
Thank you for making this video. All of my beats have been been registered with the copyright office (which came in handy recently) and now I just needed to know who else to register with outside of a PRO. A lot of my questions were answered...
23:00 you can create a google form you and who you collaborated with HAVE to fill out after each song. It can have every detail like artist name, samples, PRO information, contact and then all that information goes into a google sheet which could also be your Schedule A (something ever artist should have)
Thank You for this Amazing conversation Tynia 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I can See your Channel will Sky Rocket very soon. Wish you all the success and fun on your Journey.
I started as a IT Data Admin and transition easily into pub admin, you get to meet lots of people while Cleaning up data for clients, 4 years later my company admin 170 clients
So if i'm understanding this correctly, Lets say a Artist is working on a album with 8 songs , If i'm creating melody's for every song and some lyrics i am entitled to publishing as well not only writer share?
Wonderful show! You’re quickly becoming my favorite music business show to watch because you break things down very simply to understand. My question is about Publishing….. when you load your music to songtrust will they register your music? (ASCAP BMI ect) For song writers and pub? How does that work ? Can you do an episode on this? Thank you.
They normally register your songs to your PRO, however you still need to check on those registrations & make sure they properly linked it to your writer account at your PRO. Very often, they just make sure the song is registered correctly for the publishing (since that's the part they get their $ from), but they don't really confirm that everything is accurate for the writer. You have to make sure that all the registrations are connected to your writer IPI number.
Yesss, wish you were there at that time lol! I definitely looked it up right after we filmed and sent him a UA-cam video of Rico Love explaining the story on how he got that tag.
I'm trying. It's a grind out here in the music world, so it really takes a village for everyone in the industry. I'm just playing my part because I truly believe music is one of our saving graces in this world, & you can't preserve that without building up the creatives!
I'm not sure about one thing when it comes to publishing. I'm a member of BMI and my publishing administrator is Tunecore publishing. If I wanted to start licensing my music for movies, TV shows, etc., could it be limited because Tunecore is my administrator? Having such an administrator is convenient because all you have to do is register the composition, lyrics. If I had my own publishing company, I wouldn't even know where to start...
Some licensees won't do deals with you if you have a pub administrator, but it shouldn't limit you that much. & you can also just not have TuneCore administer the songs that get placements. The TV/Film companies can just re-title your song and register the song separately so they can administer it for you.
So dam complicated as someone that likes writing its discouraging to release anything so many tentacles i just want to make music and i have to learn all this shit my adhd brain cant process and retain
Guys so you know they are talking about scenarios where people are already known....if you artent known you will never get in the room with a lawyer.....im a master of making producers hot and making sure they have lifetime careers...if you want the real advice,,,,hit me
Not true at all. Majority of the people in the music industry are not "known". & you can very easily get in a room with me or Bob or any of the other lawyers in this business. If you want us to be your lawyer, then all you have to do is pay our fee or have us do a deal for you where we get a percentage of the $$ from that deal. That's normally where the issues arise, not because someone isn't "known". & because I am very aware that not all creatives can afford a lawyer, I give lots of "real advice" on my channel & podcast to help out. & I don't even focus on just the legal side, I worked in performing rights, publishing, and distribution before I was a lawyer (& for major, successful companies at that), so I am literally giving some of the most "real advice" that you can get in this business.
I don’t agree with him saying you as the writer or artist couldn’t do your own pub admin cause you definitely can, it will just be some leg work to setup but it’s doable. Once you get into that space, Tynia, please share the experience with us!
Good for you! That is impressive. I love artists that can do it all, but some of us are just really good at 1 aspect of music & then we gotta stay in our lane and turn to our fellow producer & engineer geniuses lol,
I want to know about copyright/ trademark of a "new" style /genre 😊 I ask here and only here bv the HomeGirl got that heat smoke and ammo! #BlkOnBlkPride to the fullest, I'm so proud of you!

Bob Celestin is my kinda' OG. He ain't with the nonsense of the new era. As soon as he mentioned Teddy Riley, I was like "Yup. Solid OG." LOL.

Man, all of you people who immediately knew this, are my kind of people! Lol I eventually looked it up that night though and sent it to Bob.
Great show, just give your guest the chance to speak. Speaking over doesn't really look good. But i love your podcast...

Per Bob you do not recommend doing your own publishing thus go thru a 3rd party publishing company?
TYNIA CAN YOU HELP ME WITH PUBLISHING

lmaoooo I kept it in to see if he catches it. In all fairness, I also said "maybe" lol.

I want to know about copyright/ trademark of a "new" style /genre 😊
I ask here and only here bv the HomeGirl got that heat smoke and ammo! #BlkOnBlkPride to the fullest, I'm so proud of you!
Hmmm, you can't really copyright/trademark a new genre. But you can trademark an effect, like T-Pain & auto-tune.
