  • I bring to your attention a review of a new study on the Avars, who are also known as Warhonites or pseudo-Avars. To be more specific, this work is devoted to the genetic analysis of representatives of the Avar Kaganate elite. I note right away that it was during this period that the Great Migration of Peoples and, in particular, the development of Slavic statehood took place. However, although the purpose of the study is specific issues related to the Avar elite and the Slavs topic is not raised in the work, it’s just worth considering that the #Slavs and Avars mutually influenced each other during such an important historical period in this territory.
But the main research questions concerned the origin and composition of the ruling group of the Avar Kaganate, namely:
Was the composition of the elite homogeneous or mixed?
Is it possible to determine from which region they arrived?
Were the maternal and paternal lines of similar origin?
Did biological kinship play a role in organizing the ruling layer of the elites?
