@@thomasalvarez6456 I disagree. I think Spiner and the other veteran writer they had on that project did a good job at putting together the story and the basic script, but a combination of executive meddling on that script and poor direction choices led to that story being glossed over by drawn out action scenes and rushed delivery of important concepts. The kernel of this film was a good idea. We need a Spiner cut.
I'm fairly new to the Star Trek community. After some research, it was an overwhelming yes to watch TNG. I got 4 seasons into it, and I bought the movies. Generations was ok, so was Insurrection. First Contact is one of my favorite Sci Fi movies of all time and Nemesis is really good. They had the terrain vehicles, a jet in a star ship and Data's sacrifice. I was surprised how moved I was. Then I heard this score at the end. I have to say, the best piece of music in the series.

A musically solid sendoff for both the TNG cast and Jerry Goldsmith. I like how tragic the middle section is, yet nostalgic in a way. Very fitting with the film

It's so nice hearing the Star Trek theme actually played and re-arranged by the original composer. I miss Jerry Goldsmith's scores! His music has saved countless movies, and enhanced countless others!
Just watched this again for the first time in more than 10 years. I was surprised to find that it actually IS an incredible film. Definitely underrated. I put it solid second best TNG movie after First Contact.
I loved Nemesis, I was gripped from the first few seconds. The soundtrack was excellent, the story was very good - who could you have been had your live gone a different track? - Data's death was very unexpected and very emotional and saying goodbye to the franchise was heart wrenching. Shame Abrams had to come along, take a good franchise and turn it into a pathetic joke that has nothing of Star Trek in it.
Anyone still listening to this in 2019. Ah those glorious years of Star Trek (even Voyager)... Was watching TNG & DS9 when I was just 5.. 23 years since then and still doing marathons on them shows. Nowadays storytelling is not the same..
IMO, Jerry Goldsmith's music for Star Trek is the definitive music of the franchise. Just like John Williams' is for Harry Potter. IDC if anyone thinks Horner's or Rosenman's or Giacchino's music is better, to me Goldsmith is the sound of Star Trek.
It's pretty interesting that you'd associate John Williams with Harry Potter in the first place whereas he'll always be the legend of star wars music for me. That's his most amazing masterpiece IMO
Darth Famous It's definitely interesting because the Harry Potter franchise, just like Star Trek, has had different composers working on it not just John Williams. I didn't use the Star Wars as an example because it has remained the exclusive domain of Williams, though that may start to change soon, since Williams is now 85, and the Star Wars franchise will most likely remain alive and strong.
Never saw the sun shining so bright. Never saw things going so right. Noticing the days hurrying by. When you're in love my how they fly oooh blue sky's,
It would be really cool if whoever is in charge of music in the Star Trek Picard show dug up these old movie-specific themes and re-used them. Goldsmith made some really cool tracks that are pure Star Trek, and it'd be a shame if they stayed in the past forever just because the movie itself wasn't that popular. I'd love to hear the theme that starts at 1:50 again as a motif for the Romulans on the show. And I'd love to hear the First Contact Borg theme again, the Busy Man theme, even the Klingon theme if they are on the show. Goldsmith crafted an epic universe of great Star Trek music that has mostly been stuck in the movies until now. It would be amazing if they could get some more exposure in a way that ties the whole franchise together.
No...I wish they would do a series with Riker, Troy, Crusher and the crew of the USS-Titan. Jonathan Frakes would be good in such a movie. Even a tv series would be good. That's what i would like to see.
This piece makes me feel so many emotions. The music seems disconnected, stressed. Fearful, sinister, but through it all, hopeful. I felt like I was in Shinzon's mind. Beautiful.
It's funny... no matter how it starts, no matter what the background noise or instruments, once you hear those 8 telltale notes on the brass it's like "all right, here we go." ...I do anyway.
A great end to a fabulous score, to an underrated film and Jerry Goldsmith's final work for a Trek film 😊 . May he rest in peace, his work to be enjoyed for generations to come (pardon the pun).
This movie is similar to Star Trek II The Wrath Of Khan! think about it, when Spock sacrifice himself to save the Enterprise, his body died but his soul was still alive when put it in Dr. McCoy. In this movie Data's situation was just the same. His body has died but programming was transferred to B-4 which eventually B-4 was born as DATA!
I think they should really figure out how to adapt David Mack's "Star Trek: Destiny" trilogy into material for the franchise, maybe like a miniseries or something.
I guess you didnt read the Books, the android that looks like Data had downloaded his complete "datas" a few years after the original data got killed the other data activated the memories and the personality of the old one. Later Data became Captain of the USS Enterprise E.
Spock and Data share the same story. Both have at one point stored their memory (who they are) in another person/android, and later on, are able to live on in another body. A sequel of this movie should have showed that, just like they did with Spock. It's the same story, basically, a sacrifice for the greater good. When the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.
There is definitely a technical problem with this video on my laptop the duration of the video lasts 3 min 47 and indicates connection error and on my cellphone it lasts 6 min 11 I admit that I do not understand what is happening !!! Does anyone know what is causing this anomaly?
Jonathan Frakes should have directed Nemesis like he did with First Contact and Insurrection. Marina Sirtis and LeVar Burton was mad at Stuart Baird for not watching any of the TNG episodes. That's part of the reason why Nemesis was bad. There was going to be a fifth TNG movie but with the poor box office of Nemesis and Enterprise having bad reviews; it was scrapped.
MythicMage Gaming Sad. When thinking that they have don Star Trek VI in less then a year after V had been so dumb, i cant even image how good a fifth TNG Movie would have bin if they had put just half the efford in it, then they did with VI. Oh, wait. It would have been eleven and as we all now the uneven are mostly worse than the even -.-
MythicMage Gaming About the director -- Frakes was never contacted, and oddly enough, Patrick Stewart wasn't either. Originally Nicholas Meyer was offered the chair, but he wanted to make script changes. Which honestly might have helped the movie as a whole... but Rick had promised to shoot John Logan's script as written. And when Berman passed on him, he wanted to hand the clapboard to LeVar, but the studio said 'Stuart Baird'. The studio was wrong. And the studio, Baird, Logan and Rick Berman (for Enterprise's first three seasons, as well as going with this screenplay as written) are entirely the reason why the Prime timeline is only in books and Star Trek Online as a result.
I think what the film deserves is a reproduction of sorts, which would consist of including some of the deleted scenes, a more meaningful rewrite, additional shots including the 'older' Tom Hardy, for example, and more of Dina Meyer as Donatra. And then a re-release :-) The crew is now 11-12 years older, and so I wonder if it could be written in as part of the story. I'd completely do away with the car chase. The trouble with the current edition is that important scenes were culled from it.
This new beginning for the main theme was perfect, and it was a fitting good-bye to the Star Trek franchise as I knew it (after this there was only Enterprise, Abramtrek, and the appropriately initialled ST:D).
Get a DVD version--the actual music for the credits is much longer and nothing like this. I can no longer find it on UA-cam. It starts out the same, but after the Star Trek intro the music is totally different.
Truly the last great Star Trek movie ever made. The new movies were okay but nothing close to the TNG era movies or the old Kirk movies based on the 60's Star Trek. And we don't speak about Discovery. Such abominations should be discarded.
Not the best movie of the Star Trek franchise, but not the worst either. There are a few mistakes, most notable about the "B4" android. As I recall, it was determined in the TNG episode where they found Lore, that he was the first android doc. Soong created. But then of course, none of the ST movies are completely without various faults. Take for example Insurrection, where Geordi states that Data did not bring his emotion chip. Was the chip not fused into Data's neural net during First Contact or Generations? And later in Insurrection, Data states that he was designed to work as bouyancy device in case of a water landing. In TNG I do believe it was determined that Data was unable to float, not to mention carry anything or anyone while floating.
+Ulrik Caspersen Lore being the "First" is more likely due to the fact that he is the first android to not have a cascade failure like the prototypes before him, B4 was deactivated before such an event could occur, In Star Trek Generations Data's emotion chip is indeed fused into his neural net but he most likely found a way to remove it after four to five years possibly with the help of Bruce Maddox, The Buoyancy issue could most likely be due to Data being retrofitted with some sort of ballast devices to make sure he stays afloat.
Just to expand, b-4's positronic net is not as sophisticated as data's/lores. B-4 was considered a prototype. It's why he talks like he does, ask's stupid questions, he would not have had data's capacity to learn. The movies take place over a span of around 7 years in the star trek universe so anything can happen in that span of time. If you read any of the comic's. B-4 basically becomes data and takes over the enterprise. Which is what i'd like to think would have happened.
The data theme is just fine, but the middle "Nemesis" seems disconnected, its like they didnt have enough time to finish it, it sort of just ends and your presented with the standard tng fanfare to compensate. I didnt hate the movie, I always did like the romulans, think they needed more screen time, but the music seems disjointed somehow. Neither First contact or Insurrection seem to suffer this issue however.
RIP Jerry Goldsmith. You were the best composer for Star Trek.
Jerry goldsmith and John williams are the best

TNG Inheritence Julianna Soong says there was either 4 or 5 prototypes BEFORE Lore
Data didn't die, it was B4.
