    Thanks for sharing this. I am so happy you said to do your single stitch inside the whole thing and not in individual loops ! I thought no way when I saw how small the ring was .😲😬😄

      Carla Cotton Well, Carla, I just kept thinking about how I would feel waiting and waiting. So I took a few hours off and worked on this video. The first one was so much better, but came out to be 1 minute over UA-cam's time limit. I hope this helps. Feel free to reach out if I can be of more help! Happy bead crocheting!!

    Hi. So what are the actual threads used for bead crochet ropes cos im confused. i want order size 11/0 toho seed beads but i dont know what thread i need for it. is it 100% cotton thread or 100% polyster or some other type. I want really strong one. i have guttermann threads at home at the moment and they seem very strong i cannot pull them apart with my hands when i tried but idk if those are the right ones to use for bead crochet ropes. and also should you crochet very tight or try to keep it more loose, cos i tried once and the beads arent close enough have those tiny gaps everywhere so the thread colour is visible but i want that all the beads are properly tight together. ( im in uk and am a beginner) thank you !! :)

      Inga Gutmane Hi! Thanks for the questions. For the first one concerning what thread to use, I want to suggest you watch my other video on UA-cam, “Bead Crochet thread and hook sizes”. I actually have 7 videos about bead crochet on UA-cam that are listed above. From experience, I can tell you that although Guttermann is strong, it isn’t strong enough for wearable bead crochet items. I made a bracelet with it and after the 6th wearing it broke. Maybe it’s the added movement of the beads on it. I’m not sure. After all the work, I had to make the bracelet over again. As for just how tightly you should crochet with beads, I can tell you that I started too loosely and got gaps just like you mention. Then I went really tightly and had an even harder problem because I was always fighting to get the hook inside the too small space, so all the fun of bead crocheting was gone. A firm tension works best. Not tight and not loose. I know that’s not much help. But it’s true. Keep at it and before very long you’ll find it’s easy to keep the right tension. Also the threads that I use and the hook size makes all the difference with the tension. I’d go into that in writing, but give that video a try. If after watching it you still have questions, please let me know. I just want everyone that’s interested in bead crochet to enjoy it and create awesome pieces!!! Thanks again.

      Thank you for the reply. I have been looking the bits you have used in this video and listed below im looking all those sizes and brands for the past few hours now haha. Might give a try ti Lizbeth thread and trying to find some nice looking 0.75mm crochet hook. Oky so the little gaps i have got between the beads is cos i did it too loose hmm oky will try to make it more firm when my new proper supplies will arrive. Have a nice day!

    Oh, oh, reading through the comments below I think maybe I goofed? The closest I could get to size 40 or 80 thread is Aunt Lydia's Extra Fine 30. So, I proceeded to string on 11/0 seed beads, 6 colors to a round, 128" (or 10.7 feet). Is that enough or WAAAAY too much for, say, a 20" necklace? And is the thread actually too thin to withstand a necklace. Now I've chickened out and afraid to proceed. Ugh, please help with some encouragement🙀
    Oh, and if the thread size is wrong, I can still re-string to a better thread while it's still on the current thread - I'll just tie the ends together and roll off from one to the other, yes?

      Mary Cheney Hi! I know you said that you read through the other comments, but here is my answer to you. The strength of the thread is really, really, a big deal. I personally would not use Aunt Lydia’s Extra Fine #30. Especially since you are making a necklace. I’ve only made bracelets since I really don’t wear necklaces. The Lizbeth #40 and #80 that I use have a really tight twist and so they are strong. Don’t chicken out.....just change your thread! I would so hate for you to get your necklace done only to have it break on maybe the 2nd wearing. All your work would be for nothing. That said, to change to the other thread I don’t think a knot will work to slide the beads over it. Being right handed. I’d hold the thread that you have your beads on now with my left hand wrapping the thread end over my index finger and have a threaded beading needle with the new thread in my right hand. I would pick up quite a few beads from the old thread with my beading needle and slide them off the old thread to transfer them to the new thread. Yeah, it will take some time but it works! Hopefully, I’ve made this clear for you! As far as how many beads you need. I’ve actually made 7 bead crochet videos and one is on bead crochet design. That video covers what computer software I use to figure how many beads etc. Take a breath and go for it. Happy beading!!!

    Hi Rhonda, what are the advantages and disadvantages of the slip stitch method and the double bead crochet? Watching both videos the only difference I can see is that there is an extra stitch each time with the double crochet so the slip stitch method would seem easier (I think beginners would find it easier on which stitch to pick up before adding the next bead) and quicker.

    • @rhondarohaly
      @rhondarohaly  6 років тому

      Anne Evans Hi Anne! I’m not sure there is a disadvantage to either method. It’s all personal preference. When I first started doing any kind of bead crochet, I wasn’t even aware there were two methods. That’s why I started making videos (a total of 7 videos so far). I thought that since I was a little confused, maybe other people were too. I started out doing slip stitch. After doing both, I prefer double bead crochet since I’ve had trouble making sure each bead was laying down flat doing slip stitch. But then that’s just me. Each bead just automatically lays at an angle with the double bead crochet. I do find that the double bead crochet makes a much more flexible bracelet though. Thanks so much for reaching out.

    Does euro crochet HAVE to be 12+around?

    • @rhondarohaly
      @rhondarohaly  14 днів тому

      Thank you for your question even though I’m not certain I understand it completely. In this video I’m making a bead crochet bracelet using 8 beads around for my design. You would use however many beads you need in each round to achieve your design. 8, 10, 12, 14 etc. Obviously the number of beads you choose to use in each round will affect how wide or narrow your project turns out. The number of rounds you do will decide the overall length of your project. Saying all this, if I’m understanding your question correctly, my answer is “no” you don’t have to do 12+ around. The number of beads you do in a round is decided by the pattern you desire for your finished project. Hopefully this answered your question. Happy bead crocheting!!! 10:18

    Rhonda, thanks for sharing your tutorials. I'm a bit confused about the name for the used stitch though. In this video you actually use single crochet but you call it double crochet. You even say it yourself: you single crocheing the beads..... But in the title it's called double crochet. Is there a reason for that?

    • @rhondarohaly
      @rhondarohaly  6 років тому

      parsleybrain Hi! Great question. I thought the same thing when I was first interested in doing this. Every pattern or set of instructions I could find called it that. So I decided to also. Not a good reason. I know. You and I obviously know the difference between slip stitch, single, double, and treble crochet from crocheting with yarn. I just didn’t want to add any more confusion by changing their terminology.

    • @sandrachase68
      @sandrachase68 5 років тому +2

      US terminology this is single crochet. UK and European it is double crochet because their slip stitch is called single crochet.

    I've seen tutorials listing size thread anywhere from size 20 to 80 (as in your video above) What size is the best for double bead rope with size 11 beads? What about Gutermann Top Stitch Thread? Thanks.

    • @rhondarohaly
      @rhondarohaly  7 років тому +1

      S Soutache Hi! I usually use size 40 Lizbeth tatting thread when doing double bead crochet with size 11 seed beads. When I can’t find the color I need in size 40, I’ll go to size 80. The twist in this thread gives it a lot of strength. I also sew and I’m not sure the Gutermann Top Stitch Thread would be strong enough over time. I’d hate for you to get all done and then maybe the 3rd time you wear your creation, the thread breaks. I can’t buy my thread near me so I order it online from Handy Hands Tatting. They seem to have all colors and all sizes in stock most of the time. Hope this helps you! Have fun double bead rope crocheting!!!

      Thank you so much for your prompt reply! Very helpful information. I love your video. I think I made a mistake of starting with a 6 beads per round project. My circle is so tiny. I have started over many times. I thought my thread may be too big as a lot of thread is showing. I am going to order the Lisbeth. Thank you again.

      Christina Alicia Slocum Hi Christina! I’m so sorry for the delay in getting back to you. This time of year I’m off to craft shows usually out in the middle of nowhere. Anyway. I order my Lizbeth thread online from Handy Hands Tatting. One of my 7 videos goes into what number size for what size beads. Hopefully this helps you. Happy bead crocheting!!!

      Shakura T Hi Shakura! Sorry you are unable to see the stitches well enough. I don't have a camera that I use. It's my iPad. I've tried to zoom it it but then I can't see what I'm doing. I have to look through my iPad as I'm making the videos. That's the only way I'm certain that I keep what I'm doing at least in frame. Hopefully there are other videos that will help you.

    You're missing the thread so many times; it's very annoying to watch. Don't you know you have to put the hook sideways or down to catch the thread? Incredible with your experience and many beautiful pieces that you don't know this basic crochet piece of info!
