  • The Femke Mooren Quartet is an ensemble consisting of young Rotterdam musicians, founded by saxophonist and upcoming talent Femke Mooren. In addition to being a group of musicians on stage, they also form a close group of friends; and this is clearly noticeable in their interplay. The quartet plays melodic jazz in which emotions and life stories are interwoven that they want to convey to the audience.
    Line-up:
    Femke Mooren - saxophone
Eva Serrano Alarcon - double bass
    Kasyfi Kalyasyena - piano
    Laurens Buijs - drums
Mooren won the prestigious Princess Christina Jazz Competition in 2023. Since then, the young saxophonist has been working hard. The jury described the quartet and their music as “Beautiful, clear, directly approachable original compositions, with room for all enterprising musicians. The band's obvious chemistry is expressed dynamically. The music is very alert and balanced”.
Femke Mooren was inspired in her compositions by her jazz heroes Brian Blade Fellowship, Kendrick Scott Oracle and Immanuel Wilkins. As our Endorsed Talent, Femke will perform several times during the Amersfoort World Jazz Festival, both with the Femke Mooren Quartet and in new formations. In addition, she was offered an internal coaching trajectory to support her musical development.
This concert is part of the Sena Performers International Jazz Laureate Festival (SPIJLF). During this concert series, ten international festivals get the chance to put a promising jazz talent from their own country in the spotlight, and thus give a kick-start to their international career. This year, talents from the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Spain, Thailand, Italy, Australia and Bulgaria will present.
This concert is endorsed by Amersfoort World Jazz Festival
All participating festivals are partners of the World Jazz Network, an international collaboration of jazz festivals and venues to promote the exchange of jazz talent beyond their own national borders.
