This video is an example of why I love your channel. You are so discerning about makeup and articulate your thoughts so well. Thank you, Whitney! Helping us makeup obsessed girlies spend more thoughtfully.
Wow thank you so so much!!! You just made my day sweet friend :)
I feel like whatever shade you buy first will always be your favourite because we all know which tones we gravitate to and it’s because that’s what looks best on us. So I never buy a blush in more than one, because what’s the point of getting a “second best?”
This is such a good point! And I’m with you 1,000% xoxoxo
@@whitneyhedrickBy the way, Givenchy reformulated to take out the talc. I managed to find 3 minis to back up on after calling 4 Sephoras in my area. Saleslady said people have been coming in in droves snapping up whatever is left. And apparently, the new powder is shiny and people hate it. Sigh…..
@@lindsayhoffman2688 Oh I know..I am devastated and Givenchy REALLY fumbled the bag. Llike...why not make two formulas? If some people think talc is bad then they can buy your new shitty one...but some of us dont care and want our poudre!!! hahah
not the froggy hair up your butt 🤣😂 that one had me rollin' !!
🤣
You say you don’t like peach tones but in the videos your blush looks peachy so does your whole makeup… I would love to see the true colors of your makeup
If I have to guess I would have said you are wearing She is the Moment
Nope….im wearing Garconne from westman atelier that isn’t peach at all. How it looks on me vs the pan I can’t account for…if I did wear a peach shade you would know and it wouldn’t look good at all
The Biba palette is soooo good though! Open it again and look at it 👀 You’re complexion is gorgeous, glad that you embrace it!
Thank you! And this issue with the palettes isn’t the palettes themselves it’s the fact that I just never reach for them anymore :)
Hey Whitney! The beauty industry as a whole is moving toward talc free. Presumably because of all of the zillions of lawsuits in the last few years stemming from asbestos contamination in the talc. (JenLuv has done a number of videos covering this topic). From what I've heard and seen, the new Givenchy powders were reformulated and folks are pissed because they've added mica to the lighter shades. However, if you are pale, for the shades that fit you, those will not be terribly noticable on the skin. The one that seems to be the most problematic is the rose shade. It was once very versatile and could work on light to even deep skin tones. Now because of the mica, it will really only work on light to medium skin because on deeper tones, the mica becomes more highly reflective and highlighter-y; whereas, the lighter the skintone, the mica just serves to bounce the light back for a brightened appearance. Check out Nikki LaRose's video from Saturday. She does a good deep dive and demonstration on the product. Since you favor the one for pale folks (the one with the pastel purple, green, etc.), i don't think your color will be "ruined" by the change. And there are a number of shades made for deeper skin tones that the finish is matte--no mica at all--so there are other options for those consumers too. Again, check out Nikki's video. And if you'd like a cheaper alternative, Moira Cosmetics has a version of the same type of powder in pressed and loose form that does the same thing for around $10. Don't sleep on Moira--they are affordable AND have lots of amazing quality products! ❤❤❤
Another problem with the reformulation is that they now include kaolin clay, which is an oil absorbing ingredient that tends to look heavy and dry on the skin.
Whitney, I’m in the same boat as you. I finally purchased minis (of the OG formula) two weeks ago to see if I would like them after all the hype. Turns out I do. And now this. Boo.
I have been playing a bit with Moira this year but mostly eye products and have been super impressed :)
I almost like the idea of a powder that is light reflecting but smoothing so if it does that I am DOWN.
I guess in my own way I just wish we even had some notice or SOMETHING.
Also I love Nikki so I will def check her video out :)
Great video.....have you ever tried mixing the illuminating primer in with the foundation before applying??
I have but it changed the color and texture of the foundation in a way I didn’t like BUT maybe I just need to find the right foundation to mix it with :)
Hey Whitney, I've been a fan of yours for a long time, I totally agree with you on the blush colour thing. For me it's a little difficult because I'm a strange golden but neutral olive that also is very pale yellowy-red somehow. I feel like I'm on an eternal blush journey. However, if I can recommend anything, please do pick up the GXVE blush duos, particularly the purple one. It is THE blue-y red muted blood blush colour that is my literal like, if I pop a pimple on my cheek, that's the colour it's gonna be. Which sounds unflattering when I put it that way but the finish of that formula is beautiful, it's such a soft lit satin and then even the more luminous shade still has that soft satin finish where it's blurring but luminous, no huge pores or metallic finish... I really love these. I tried the other shade crush on you I wanted to and didn't like that one as much, somehow seemed a little patchy but I think on your skin tone that purple blush will look really good on you.
I will look into that :) I haven’t tried any of miss Gwennies line yet and perhaps I’m due :)
@@whitneyhedrick if I can make another suggestion, apparently her mascara is amazing too. These duos are quite fragrances though so just give it a sniff if that will bother you, I find after having owned it for several months the scent is basically gone. Even if you don't pick this particular blush up, I think that kind of colour will look so good on you if you can swatch it. If you don't mind a liquid blush the rare beauty blushes have a similar shade, I think it's Encourage or Believe. There is something about a slightly lilac-y mauve-y neutral berry that is so natural. I'm so glad I discovered it. It's foolproof, especially in that formula. Now I can't help but try a lilac blush when I see it, currently enjoying the Essence Blush Crush blush in lilac too.
I recently turned 42 and have realized that 1) I don’t care about the trends, 2) I keep thinking of just dumping 90% of my collection and just buying a few things that I used for years and then abandoned for trends and/or influenced to buy. Like why do I need 4 huge ND pallets when I reach for the same 3/4 pan shadows? Why do I need all these skin tints when I *know* I like a medium coverage due to my rosacea? I need to have a serious sit down conversation with myself and about what I truly love, look good in, and use, then remove the rest of the noise..
As a fair and cool toned woman i'm so fed up with blushes that are somhow orange.... And yes, coral looks orange for me and on me too.
I'm not longer interested in eyeshadowpalettes too.
I've singles that are gathered in an magnetic palette, and that's it.
I only wear blue, blue-greys or greytones... No need for more eyeshadows.
Most palettes are warmtoned, not interested in gold, peach, warm browns....
I love a good foundation, a good powder, nice bronzer, that are'nt somehow yellow/orange, mascara and balmy lipsticks with skincare in it.
My best blush is a soft lilac.
I have all i need ❤😊
A trend i'm not interested in, are creme- and liquid-products, like blushes, bronzers, etc...
But i love a good eyeshadowstick too.
Greetings from Germany 🤗
Being a cool toned girly is hard especially if you’re fair because most color ways and complexion products ALWAYS lean warmer on me than I wanted. In this video alone like 5 people have said I am covered in warm toned and I’m not they all are either called “rose something” or “mauve something” and apparently they still look warm haha although in this case I believe it’s the lighting.
Even foundations or concealers that claim to be pink are yellow or peach. I dunno maybe there isn’t many of us out here to create shades for so they aren’t quite dialed in. But even what I was a pro MUA…medium skin tones look great in basically everything. It’s when you get to the extremely deep or pale skin that stuff gets a bit more fussy.
Hope all is well in good ol Germany! :)
Also tell me everything about the lilac blush!
Hi Whitney🙆♀️1) I think with the Dior quad, you may need to go a little further down into the product 2) I think there might be a movement in the beauty industry regarding talc. The Givenchy powder is just the start and I would imagine other brands will be reformulating to talc-free
I’m gonna scrape that top layer off stat cause it’s currently a $60 paper weight 😫
@@whitneyhedrick one other thing I forgot to mention- you might want to look into a color analysis (Spring, Summer Fall Winter) to better help pinpoint colors you enjoy wearing
@@LauraMidwest Oh i have :) Im a winter :) what are you?
The dior highlighter as eyeshadow. Love you ❤
Love you! Xo
I love the Huda Beauty pink powder - I recently got it and love how it brightens the centers of my face.
How do you apply it?
@whitneyhedrick I've tried it with these 3 methods: the little black flat sponge it comes with underneath the pan, a Scott Barnes pointy tapered blush brush, and a poof (tati blendiful). I like the fluffy brush and flat sponge the best. I find you only need a little bit, and it blurs. Too much makes the pink too obvious. The main reason I like this powder is because pressed is more convenient at times, and it doesn't have any types of silicones, which break me out.
Usually, if I have a highlighter, bronzer, or even blush that doesn’t work for me, I’ll try it on my eyes. In fact, if I’m in a hurry, I’ll grab my powder bronzer and use it as a crease shade when I’m in a hurry. Maybe you can use the highlighter quad as eyeshadow? You might also try it on your lips
I find myself this year obsessing over lip oils and balms🤭🩷 no more matte lips and regarding Huda beauty i think it’s meant for brightening as a finishing powder lightly with a brush
Probably but I don’t feel like iteven does that …like the old school KVD highlighting powders did something like that and this doesn’t IMO. I dunno could just be a flop or like I said I’m just not the target audience.
This should be interesting! Thanks for emphasizing and or separating the product quality and your preference! Preference, esthetic is key! Although your opinion is valued! Love the CT flawless filter is my jam. I didn’t bother trying the others. I like the Patrick Ta bronzing duo. However, I “used” the powder side once. The pan got so hard it went unused for months( no damp or wet brush, no dirty brush used) I finally scraped the top layer and now it works great! I’m positive I got a dud. I enjoy it now. It’s certainly not my favorite! Agreed on the Dior highlighter pallet. Nothing beats the Universal pallet. All arrows point to the Glitz based on my complexion but it’s the Universal pallet for me! In addition to preference I also find the quality better! The glitz pallet is also neglected sadly. I initially loved the Huda Beauty pressed powder! But now I find in a little on the matte side. I will not be able to use during winter as I have dry skin. It is brightening but again I can’t do matte powders or drying formulas. I ask prefer the classic Huda Beauty esthetic. Not a fan of the rebranding. I don’t find it necessary. Also the packaging is clumpy. It could have been much sleeker. Love the brand but it does teeter in full coverage. Great convo!
Honestly my biggest gripe with Huda has always been packaging...it looks like NYX too much and in now way looks like it is prestige as the price tag indicates.
You should really try the ByTerry hyaluronic acid loose powder! The lightest, most blurring powder ever! Is exceptionally thin and not drying at all
I used to love that! I might have to bring it back into orbit :)
Agreed about the CT flawless filter which I love even alone with nothing over it. When Elf duped it I thought great for people who may not want to spend the price of CT or can’t afford it but now it’s becoming a joke that every company is trying to dupe flawless filter. Come on be innovative and higher end company’s come up with your on products
I love my Dior highlighter pallet. I use it every day but I am medium skin tone too. Love your channel
Thank you bb!!!! xoxoxo
I would love to see how you use the eyeshadow sticks with the cinnamon color stick and the brown colors. You used those sticks for years and I loved your look.
I would prob use them the same way but I don’t think I would like the look of it anymore. I can do something similar with tones I enjoy more however :)
I love the huda concealer on my dry, textured underey. I also love love love the pretty grunge palette from the line. I do not like the small palettes they do, but the large ones have such great powder formula.
The dior highlighter quad I love. For me it highlights I did have to work past the embossing for it to get better. The bronzey shade I love to use as a bronzer topper-over my matte bronzers it gives it a nice glow without looking too tinman. I use the lightest shade as an inner corner highlight every once in a while, or center eyelid highlight over deeper shimmers. The peachy and champagne shades I use as a highlighter mixed together or as an eyeshadow; they all work great on the eyes. The liquid highlighters I mix in with my matte foundations for a satin finish. I don’t like using them under makeup as a primer but mixed in they look nice on my skin.
thanks for the tips my love :) :)
ive come to realize that i dont like how dewy foundations look on my skin, i get greasy too quickly and then it bunches up,
i prefer to add the glow very sparingly, ie skin prep, glowy bronzer, fix+
Ugh..I miss my greasy skin sometimes....without the dew at tis point I look a little lifeless
I also do not understand the all over face glow “tin man” products. They settle in skin texture and make me look old, and it feels like just another layer to add that doesn’t make the overall look better. Love this video. Isn’t it wild how much has changed from 2016?
Thank you!!!! xoxcooc
Hi Whitney, Dior reformulated already the most of their products and made them clean and talc free. Maybe you have got reformulated one, and that's why it's so chalky. The same about Givenchy powder. They made it talc free and ruined it 😑 this is so disappointing. What is the purpose to make products clean if they don't perform well. i am searching for alternatives from other brands... i don't buy anything anymore from Dior. Love your videos ❤❤❤
Yeah I might be done with Dior as well. Let clean brands be clean and let us dirty girls slay in peace!
@@whitneyhedrick 😂absolutely agree ❤️
I enjoyed this video thanks! Maybe try using the Dior highlighters as satin eyeshadows?
In terms of disappointing products I got the Milk hydro grip primer. I think it's ok if you let it set for a while before putting foundation on but frankly it's a bit of a faff and the results seem a bit hit or miss so of course I don't bother! I also struggled with the Nars light reflecting foundation everyone raved about a while ago. I applied it with a brush and it sat in my pores and attached itself to every tiny hair on my face. Then I found if I applied it more like a moisturiser with my fingers and really rubbing it in it actually looked really good. But again, I'd rather have products that just work without all the aggravation!
I got the Saie glowy gel and also found it wasn't a product I wanted to use all over (I have combination skin and when I thought about it, it doesn't even make sense to put highlighter on areas where I have larger pores) but I do LOVE it as a liquid highlighter on the cheeks, brow bone etc. Genuine wet skin looking effect xx
I have been eyeing that thing forever (the Saie) but I am afraid of getting burned again. I wanted to use it mostly on my decollate and shoulders when skin is showing but wasn’t sure that jusrified picking it up or not. You have given me some food for thought here
The only way I ever use the Charlotte tilbury/ elf glowy primers are as highlighters
Me too and MAYBE all over if I am doing a sunscreen and conealer day but even then....its not always the best move for me personally
You can just send all those products to me! Lol..just kidding! But in all seriousness, your face color palette looks amazing on you! I stopped tanning as well and my color makeup has changed as well and I am at that age where simplicity is the best. P.S can you recommend a dupe for
Givenchy powder since they have reformulated their product ?
No but if you find a dupe let me know! hahah
I do like the rare beauty one a lot so far (still testing) but Im not sure I would call it a dupe quite yet
Those glowy base things do not work for me either bc they don't set and make everything on top not set. It makes my foundations like finger printy. I have to use powders on top. Once you powder, the glow disappears. I don't get it. I like the auric as a liquid highlighter. It's the one I've liked the most, but idk how they work for others
Right!!! For me it’s that they make my glowy foundation look thicker but not more glowy. It’s wild
Whitney I do not like those gray toned contour colors people talk about. I stick to a warm sunkissed look with my bronzer, it looks more realistic
I think so too….most of us don’t need a TRUE contour the way we think we do. Truly contouring is best done with a shadow tone and is really hard to get right. Adding bronzer to create dimension I also tend to agree looks more natural :)
Ive simplified my makeup so much lately. I don't have time but Im never giving it up. Also i need my cool tones as well. I used to only buy high end but the drugstore has really stepped up their game and I can no longer justify the high end prices. Do you have any drugstore recommendations?
I mean nothing everyone else doesn’t rave about….in other words I have no super secret things I’m gate keeping BUT I do have a drugstore video coming soon :)
Forgot to say I love you Whitney 😘
I love you!!!! Xoxoxox
You're sitting there, bashing warm tones, wearing a full face of warm tones 😂😂
Def not…and either way I said “bronze, peach, dark chocolate, beige” to be specific and I’m not wearing it and I also said it didn’t work for me sooooooooo not sure how that’s “bashing” 😂
❤❤❤❤❤
Xoxox
I think Shaaan xo likes the huda pressed powder
Awwww shaaan!!! A true legend!!!!
The new Tarte loose powder is lighter than air, in my opinion.
Interesting! ;)
P.S. love your eyeshadow ❤
Thanks bb!!! Xoxoxo
The glow sunscreen makes my skin crawl. It's so nasty and thick and shiny. Tin Man indeed.
Agreed!
What lip are you wearing!?
The new Fenty lip liner in thugz blush too and the gloss stick on Is it Fussy
I love the Dior palette you bought but don’t like, I’ll take it off your hands
Maybe you could give the dior palette to someone else?
You say you don’t like peach shades anymore , but your makeup blush and lips looks peachy to me
They aren’t…it’s the lighting or something.
