Multiple different rebel groups have banded together against the government and tens of thousands of people have died. Recently the rebel groups have launched successful offensives and have captured large chunks of territory while the government still controls most population centers.

fingers crossed for a good outcome. after reading a bit on it I feel cautiously optimistic about the future there.
