This is always genuinely one of my favorite videos to come out every year. Whether you do continue to make these or not, thank you.
I look forward to these videos every year, been watching since I was 13 and now I'm a film student at uni. There really were some great films this year.

The whiplash I got going from TAR to Jackass was wonderfully unexpected ahaha. I have never had any interest in the Jackass films but the way you talk about it (and all the films) make we wanna go experience them all immediately - I hope you will continue sharing your thoughts as it's so great.
Also yes to Everything Everywhere! M
My favourite film in a long time, it left me feeling so filled and excited for film.
So thrilled to see cha cha real smooth on your list! Went to see it on a whim last year and adored it, left the cinema into a beautiful summer evening and went for a cycle round bute park in Cardiff with the score playing in my earphones. One of my favourite cinema experiences
Funnily enough we only had our number 1’s in common this year, but I think that speaks to the strength of the crop of films released last year as well as the beautiful thing that movies can mean so many different things to so many different people.
came to the comments to express this exact sentiment :)
this series feels like a friend
we get more round-ups on UA-cam every year, and this is still the one I always come back to! please never stop doing these!!
I love these videos, I could listen to you talk about films for hours!
I’ll defo give some of these a watch.
Please don't end on this one. Your thoughts and perspective are great and I always look forward to watch movies that I have missed from my overindulgence of data
Every year I look forward to your list and you never disappoint
Ahhhhhh yes! Love this every year💕
Edit: If this does in fact end up being the end of the series, thank you for your time and your takes Sammy! I’ve enjoyed and appreciated them so much💞
EEAAO got so few screenings where i live, but i still got to see it in theaters twice, and i'm so thankful for that. It picked me up right when i needed it and my life started changing completely since it happened. It is truly, genuinely a magical film. I don't know how else to describe it.
As a french person who lives in a country where Babylon, Tár, After Sun and The Fableman came out in 2023, here's my personnal top of 2022 :
Outsiders : Puss in boots, Armageddon Time, Operation Mincemeat, The Banshees of Inisherin, Licorice Pizza (yes, in france, it's a 2022 movie), The Menue, Les Leçons Persanes (Persian Lessons) (🇫🇷/🇩🇪), Ennio (🇮🇹), Guillormo Del Toro's Pinnochio, The Bad guys
10: Le tourblion de la vie (Julia(s)) (🇨🇵)
9: The Eletrical Life of Louis Wain (yes, in UK it's 2021, for us it's 2022)
8: Everything Everywhere All At Once
7: Top Gun Maverick
6: The Duke
5: Le Visiteur du Futur (The Visitor From The Future) (🇫🇷)
4: Competencia Oficial (Official Competition) (🇪🇸)
3: Jane par Charlotte (Jane by Charlotte) (🇫🇷)
2 (could have been 1 and when I think La Nuit du 12 got the cesar of best picture over it it drives me nut): En Corps (Rise) (🇨🇵)
1: Moonage Daydream
i was so glad everything everywhere all at once is on the list. the best movie ive ever seen because you can tell how much passion the daniels had to make this film. also andy newman is racacoony, just thought id mention that
as always with these videos, regardless of if I haven't seen the film or have seen it and it just wasn't for me, I am always won over by your ability to express what about them you love and why with such passion and eloquence.
i so so appreciate these each year and always leave with new movies on my letterboxd watchlist and feeling inspired, so thank you Sammy
If this ends up being the last one of these you make, it will end up being the last one of these I see. I look forward to them. Learn from them. Love them. I appreciate how much and how deeply you love movies. You always include a few I had skipped and some I hadn't even heard of.They go onto my "do watch" list. Thanks.
I did not see any movies this year due to my mental circumstances and the theaters that I grew up going to changing up their layouts to cater to home audiences instead of theatergoers, to the point where I do not want to go to those theaters at all they just leave me feeling melancholic and with back pain.
The joy that you give to this list and in general movies urges me to change that, so I will cross my fingers but I can at some point soon see some of these because the way you described them sounds like a good experience
This was another amazing top 10. I type this after finishing everything everywhere all at once, because as you said, I paused the video and watched it. And by golly what a ride that movie is. I have been checking your channel religiously for the past month hoping to see this video, knowing full well it would be in my recommended. and you did not disappoint. I love the way you talk about films.
Personally my favourite of the year was going to be Banshees of Inisherin or maybe Nope/The Batman then Marcel The Shell With Shoes On swept in and completely stole my heart and left me a teary mess by the end. Most of the time my favourite movie of the year is almost trapped in that year and almost never follow me to more than one rewatch a few years later, but I honestly can't wait to see Marcel again and was looking to see it again the next day because I loved it so much.
Banshees not even in the top ten?? Oooh, I know I'm going to love this list
The only film bro whose movie opinions I actively seek out and look forward to hearing ❤️
Cool video and cool midnight screening story haha
From the top of my head some of my 2022 favourites (by Dutch release date) were: Petrov's Flu, What do we see when we look at the sky?, Falcon Lake, Decision to Leave, Un beau matin and Cow
Honourable mention for 'Met mes' an amazing Dutch film by Sam de Jong, described as "Bresson on acid" and yes that is a recommendation
I was looking forward to this so much!! I'm so happy you took the time to create this again :) thank you Sammy 💐
Thank you for once again making my "films to watch" list EVEN LONGER! But seriously thank you x
AHHHHH thank you I literally look forward to these every year to figure out the next movies to watch ❤ I’ll take any opportunity to hear more of your perspective on cinema
Cool list. I didn’t expect anybody else to enjoy Everything, Everywhere, All of the Time, but it’s validating, if surprising, that so many people did. And thanks for giving me a bunch of reccs to try out
After Sun
Tar
Triangle of sadness
I always love your takes and inputs! A few I have seen and totally agree and a few that are now on the docket! Thanks Sammy!
glad to see eo and jackass on the list and loved your story about the midnight screening. did you see decision to leave? that was my absolute fave last year and defo worth a watch!!
so glad to have seen all of these- i completely agree especially with aftersun i was very in the middle but the end left me thinking about it for ages
So glad glass onion was included in this because I enjoyed it so much too and knives out 😅
omg yess I'd been looking forward to this
i've been looking forward to this video for *so long*
oh my god i'm so happy ur fave movie was eea@o
I LOVE that you put Jackass on the list, honestly, the movies and the late nights with MTV were such a big part of my late teens/early twenties.
Sammy this makes me incredibly happy. Very insightful and entertaining
WE LOVE MOVIES, WE LOVE SAMMY x
I was kinda expecting Nope to be on the list, it was such a weird watch and I enjoyed it so much 😅
Hey Sammy! I love watching your yearly recommendations, its been a tradition for a while now. Curious, how do you watch the movies that you've brought up? Are you always trying to catch them in the cinema? Are they all shown in UK cinemas? Or do you watch most of them at home after they've finished their big screen showing? Does it play a part to your decision making? Thanks!
I try to see most stuff in the cinema - to me it’s the true experience of watching a film. Occasionally, specially as the deadline for this video approaches, I’ll definitely end up seeing some things from home.
pls dont stop making these
YEEEAAAAH can’t wait to see the ranking for films I did not watch at all because i just keep rewatching Stick It [2006]
God I'm so happy that Jackass Forever made it onto this list. It was the first time I could see a Jackass film in the cinema and it's probably my favourite cinema experience ever
I would've added Puss in Boots 2, since it is most likely my favorite animated movie of all time, but having Everything Everywhere All At Once at #1 is so incredibly deserved. I literally could not name a single flaw in this movie, even if I was offered an unquantifiable amount of money! That movie has not only changed my perception of movies, but it has also changed my perception of life and the meaning of it. Beautiful film, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has yet to see it!
Puss In Boots 2 came out in 2023, so maybe he’ll include it in next year’s video
@@DorkOrc damn I forgot, I literally thought the movie was among the great movies of 2022, just shows how good the movie is
my top 7, not 10 because i only want to include movies i actually loved (hopefully as i watch more movies i'll actually find 10 i love enough)-
7. glass onion
6. kimi
5. you are not my mother
4. marcel the shell with shoes on
3. an cailín ciúin / the quiet girl
2. aftersun
1. everything everywhere all at once
What did u guys like about After Sun? I feel like I’m completely left behind for that one and didn’t get it at all... nothing happened in it... what am I missing?
Always love to watch your top ten movies and to hear what you got to say about these movies. Love how long a part Jackass got lol
hell yeah
i saw three thousand years of longing! yeah nobody talks about it, shame because i liked it!
yay!! sammy paul!!
as bestas (the beasts) was my #1 movie highly recommend :))) great video too i agree w a lot of your choices
I don't know why but I've got a feeling that you're either spanish or french, am I right ? 🤣
@@sherlyhooper3628 galician yup :))
@@wetasspaddington haha knew it ! (I'm french 😉) I agree this was brilliant, I ranked all films I saw that year and it came 22 (out of 68, so, nice result)
However this is the only spanish film that came out in France this year (I'll let you guess why) so if you got remmendations of spanish films that wouldn't have heard of here, I'll definitly take it!
@@sherlyhooper3628 out of the ones from 2022 id probably say alcarràs is my close second,, other nice ones are la abuela (also half french !!), cinco lobitos, and o corpo aberto another from my region :))
@@wetasspaddington alright, I'll take a look at it ! Thank you! 😁
fuck yeah
It’s a shame that, for a lot of these, I just didn’t really know they existed until months after their release. How would you recommend finding out about movies like these, especially independent productions?
I’d recommend keeping up with film festivals! And tbh if that’s a bit overwhelming, Letterboxd is a great platform to see what both critics and normal people are watching at those festivals :)
Yeah, as suggested above, festivals are fun to follow (there are a number of great UA-camrs who do festival reviews and round-ups). Letterboxd is handy for seeing what movies people are into. I also have a folder on my home screen of the show-times for a few local / independent cinemas. I’ll sometimes give the films in question a little Google to see if anything rogue intrigues me.
Does that trophy double up as a chess cheating device?
Sammy Paul!!!!
Hi Sammy, great list, love your vids man, just curious, have you seen RRR?
Yeah, really fun movie!
i’d love to hear your thoughts on “the whale” !
Overall dug it. Brendan Fraser smashed it, liked the ending.
Puss in Boots Last Wish was one more I'd add to that list.
That came out this year, so maybe it’ll be on the list for his 2023 picks
2023 videos still happening?
I like this review. Very nice. But I have to strongly disagree on 3000 Years of longing.
It started out so good, its premise was so enticing, but in my opinion the whole 3rd act was just boringly disappointing.
Also a sidenote, its worldbuilding was pretty inconsistent and kinda racist imho. Like, ok, Djinns are affected by radio waves and electromagnetic fields, gotcha. Why is this only a problem when the Djinn gets to London? Is modern-day Istanbul not also filled with radio stations, tv stations, airports etc.??? It was like the silliest cultural imperialist bias to have, like come on.
Sammy : After Sun
Me : Wait, that's a 2023 movie!
Sammy : Tár
Me : Wait, that's a 2023 movie!
Sammy : The Fabelman
Me : WAIT, I SAW IT YESTERDAY IT CAME OUT LAST WEEK !!!
Sammy ; Jackass
Me : WAIT... ahhh yeah right. I'm french. 🤣🤣🤣
I watch this every year, having NEVER seen any of the films you've recommended. And I'm not about to start now. I'll still watch tho
The dislike is me.
Never thought i'd feel myself being convinced to give Jackass another go but here we are. 😂 I struggle to keep up with everything coming out over a year so these videos are such a pleasure every year 💜
