Great remembering old era
This video was helpful??? It was just FANTASTIC, mate !! Instead of "studying " a few pages instruction booklet, you've explained everything in 3 easy steps EVRYTHIG!! Thank you ( magic man)
Good lanterns
Good explanation and demonstration. Thanks.
Thank you!
Great petromax light ❤👍
👍👍
Always light the Gas mantle before lighting the lamp
I grew up to these in early 90’s Iraq.
Using the rapid preheater as shown, which was intended for army use in extreme cold, is hard on the mantle. The better method is to fill the pan with alcohol, I use Everclear or 99% rubbing alcohol, Let it burn, repeat and then open the valve.
Good tip!
If I had one I would just carry spare generators. His pre heat method is too convenient not to use.
Hey can someone help me?
I can't get any air into the lantern when I try to pressure it up
It just won't pump air in😞
Any thoughts on this?
@@patrickeng4472 Are all the fittings...fuel fill, rapid preheater and pump top screwed down tightly? Is the air vent on the gauge closed? If still not taking air, I would suggest putting the BASE in a pan of water and then pumping it up while looking for bubbles showing a leak. Next would be to unscrew the pump and look to see if the pump shaft seal is damaged.
How long does the tank last?
About 8 hours.
Can the Petromax run on Shellite or Coleman fuel?
Colman fuel yes - I’m not familiar with shell light so can’t say for sure. If it has similar properties I would think so
@@theclassicoutdoors Thanks. Shellite is what naphtha is called in Australia - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum_naphtha.
@@theclassicoutdoors Petromax use kerosene/paraffine only, not coleman fuel or gasoline.
NO It is for KEROSENE only. I think coleman fuel would be too hot for it seeing as how it was designed for kerosene.
Kerosene is your Hottest of burning fuels that's why space heaters and jets use it!!! 🤠👍
Help. I got a hk500 and it worked good the first time I used it . The next time i turned it on the mantel juat got full with black sut. So i changed the mantels and the second time after i preheated it the turned the regulator it just filled with sut again
Haven't experienced that before... I would try draining the fuel. Check the path the fuel travels, and see if it all looks good. Good luck!
@@theclassicoutdoors yes sorted it. It was the gap between the generator and that u shaped pipe. I put some of that exhaust repair puttey to hold it in place it works great now thanks.
Can the lantern be used indoors?
Yes, it can. It does produce a fair bit of heat and a smell accompanies the light. I do recommend lighting it outdoors - that has the most smoke and fumes, but once the mantle is glowing there is much less smell.
Many thanks from Ireland!@@theclassicoutdoors
The first time I fired up my new Petromax I had problems! They are fiddley and if you don't like messing with old Morris Minors and Swiss watches at the same time then the Petromax is not for you! I suggest the non DIY people buy a gas or Electric Lantern.
There are advantages to owning a petromax but you will need patients it not as simple as filling it with paraffin and away she goes!
