Great video! I would love to see a flight showing how the City is set within the wonderful natural beauty that comes with being The Lake City! And Paul, if you could get that shot with an oil train crossing the trestle over the Saranac, and panning north and south to show the incredible length of those things--that would be very much worthwhile documenting, IMHO!
I like the music. All that peppy electronic music most drone videos or travel vlogs have is good and fine too but some of it can get a little overly hyper and grating/in your face. This music is nice and mellow. It's wintry. It's instrumental and soft which doesn't equal automatically depressing in my book. Great video!
CarcPazu haha that’s actually really funny! This was simply a series of drone test shots. When I put them all together I found a piece of music the length I needed and that was what I used.
I was in Plattsburgh from 1977 to 1980, at the base and a student at SUNY Plattsburgh. The music is soooo depressing and makes Plattsburgh feel like a lonely cold town. I would like to visit again.
It is far from lonely, I swear half the people there are from Canada not even locals. I mean, there is literally over 2 million people within like 50 minutes
I thought the same thing, music could have been more upbeat. Plattsburgh is a cold place, but only the winter temperatures lol. It is actually a very busy small tiny city IMO. The students, the lifelong residents, the Canadians, those that travel to the "Burgh" for work and business, and tourists make it a region very much alive. That darn large Walmart is one of the busiest I have ever seen. I always wondered why the city and town don't merge. Not to insert my opinion as an outsider but I would think merging population and streamlining the government would be good for the region. Either way I love visiting the area every summer, and my family has attended college there, special place in my heart for Plattsburgh. Wish the airbase was still there, great military town and much history.
Awesome video, I saw that Home Town Cable shared this. I do rail videos in the area and would love to get a drone for railfanning. Nice video of a 551 or 643 going by. I looked for myself at Ridge Rd as I love to shoot at the Ridge Rd. crossing. I find the drone thing a littke overwhelming though.
Champlain Valley Rail Snapshots Thanks for the kind words. Yes, it drone video is quite a technical process. The model I'm using in this video is not the one to learn with! It's very expensive, and when you first start you WILL crash, it's just a matter of when and how many times! Try one of the smaller cheaper ones to start, like a Parrot or a DJI Phantom. It sure opens up a world of new shooting possibilities. Good luck!
Thanks. I've looked different times at the Parrot AR 2.0 as maybe a starting point. It's definately not a high end camera platform, but it looks like all the pieces are included to get me started being in the air, and the price is more moderate than a tricked out Phantom.
Not to be like everyone else, but the song choice was a bit too mellow and depressing. If you're showcasing Plattsburgh for people who want to move there, maybe choose more uplifting music? Beautiful video and historic city, though.

Awesome video, brings back memories, as I was born there 75 years ago, now live in the Hudson Valley area.
This brings back a lot of memories. I was stationed there from 1988 to 1993 and I really miss it.
I grew up very near one of PAFB's Atlas F missile silos in the early 60's.

I've lived in Plattsburgh my whole life, (15 years) it's a very nice, safe, and homey town ^^

Yeah the trains crossing the border are usually 1 mile or longer. Pretty awful when you get stuck in traffic while one passes through lol
