In Burkina Faso, a country confronted with poverty and archaic traditions, ancestral customs are regarded as laws. In the countryside, unexplained deaths are often attributed to 'soul eaters', women with occult and malignant powers whom villagers hold responsible for these disappearances. They are outcast and become the scapegoats of an entire community.
