+Alexander Petersen It's really amazing how the voice of Bruce Dickinson remains perfect even after so many years, while the voice of James Hetfield ( Metallica ) ... This badly decayed , just examine Moscow in 1991 with a 2015 concert ... Bruce Dickinson took a real lesson for James Hetfield , Axl Rose and many others, on how to take care of the most precious possession of a singer . Fact!
Amazing song!!! This song right here proves that Bruce has always been an extremely important member of Maiden. All six members deserve to be part of this incredible band. Thank you Steve Harris for starting this great band forty years ago.
Iron maiden is the most brilliant and versatile metal band of all times. And Bruce Dickinson is by far the most advanced singer and metal singer of all times. I saw them in Vancouver when they did their seventh son tour and on April 10th 2016 I will have divine pleasure of seeing them once again. I can t wait!
song??? more like an experience the best thing about Empire is that it doesn't even 18 minutes long, it zips by so quickly and makes great use of its runtime it feels like a movie playing out in your heart almost.
Agreed!! It doesn't feel like 18 minutes...more like 5 well-used minutes! A guy at my job insulted this song and the whole Book Of Souls album...does he have any musical tastebuds left?
How many bands could write a masterpiece like this 40 years into their career? It would be very sad if this is the last ever iron maiden album, but if it is, what a way to go out and what a legacy to leave
Pretty nice dedication indeed from Dickinson and the rest of the band. He spent a lot of time composing this on the piano. The others interpreted the song very well to there instruments and it's just a magnificent piece indeed.
This certainly feels like the last Iron Maiden album...just like The Astonishing feels like the last Dream Theater album. But in both cases, they went out with a BANG!
David S. I mean they made an album the final frontier that everyone thought was the last because of the name and here we are Iron Maiden never ceases to surprise me
For me who has listened to Iron Maiden since I was 6 years old and I have now reached 47 this is one of the best songs of Iron Maiden because this song makes me cry like it makes me extremely feel very good. Alain UP THE IRONS 🤘🤘🤘
Rime of the ancient mariner was my favorite song until 2015. Since then it's definitely Empire of the Clouds. I don't think that a better one could be created. Maybe until their next album. I just hope it will be issued at latest next year!!! Thank YOU BRUCE!!! You will always be the best!!!
Want a truly awesome listening experience? Listen to the final track from each of the last five Maiden albums consecutively (The Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Journeyman, The Legacy, When the Wild Wind Blows, Empire of the Clouds). Just trust me.
I have done this. I made two CDs of all Maiden's Epic songs. Maiden's Epic songs have always been my favorite so the day after Book Of Souls came out I made them so I could be able to listen to all of them easier. It really is awesome to hear them all close to each other.
+FirstAmongTheEquals I remember. I had fought in WW1 as an American and was in France visiting the graves of my fallen comrades when I saw this happen. I rushed to the scene to try and help. Because of the horrors I saw that day, and in the first world war. My life hasn't had meaning until I saw Iron Maiden come into creation.
Iron Maiden: uma banda rotulada como "rock paulera" simplesmente pra quem não entende música, mas pra mim que já fui músico de orquestra, violinista, sei que é uma junção magnífica do metal com música clássica que simplesmente forma um som único e perfeito.
"Here lie their dreams as I stand in the sun, on the ground where they built and the engines did run. To the moon and the stars, now what have we done? Oh the dreamers may die, but the dreams live on!" Man SO beautiful, so profound. Chills every time I hear it. THAT'S why I love Iron Maiden! Its so much more than heavy metal, there is deeper meaning. I'm interested, what do you guys think is meant by the "dreams" that live on? Myself, I think it has to do with exploration and endeavoring to carry on with peaceful intent in the quest for knowledge and truth, regardless of the loss of live - however tragic.
Well for a more literal approach, it could reference how Bruce (I think it was Bruce) is a big fan of airships and appearantly has invested in an airship company. That's what people said on "genius.com" at least. But that's the beauty of poetry, it is completely open to interpretation. It says what you think it says.
Here lie their dreams as I stand in the sun, on the ground where they built and the engines did run. To the moon and the stars, now what have we done? Oh the dreamers may die, but the dreams live on!" The best eargasm i've ever felt
It got me to truly understand how Death stands right behind every one of us at the right time. "Reaper standing beside her, With his scythe cuts to the bone"
hay algo increíble de estos tipos cuando escucho algo nuevo siempre digo me parece que es el mejor disco !!! Y SIEMPRE SIEMPRE se salen con algo mejor CADA VEZ MÁS VIEJOS CADA VEZ MEJOR
With one song they surpass all of their previous work, and that on their 16th album... Only Legends like Maiden can make something like that happen. This is a masterpiece
I'd rather they _not_ make every song Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, because we all know that's what started all this. Call me a heretic, but I prefer songs that are shorter, but punchier. Nothing wrong with longer epics, but when that's all we get on the album, I kind of get sick of them after a while. Not every song on here earns it run time. Some of them have riffs that are just repeated back-to-back for no reason, or variation. Again, nothing wrong with that, unless it's overused.
Really? I find the longer songs on this album earn their run time. For example, The Red and the Black changes its rhythm at least 5 times. I can agree though that Empire of the Clouds is kinda repetitive.
When I hear a Justin Bieber song, it feels like a million years before it's over even though he has songs 2-3 minutes long but when I listen to this song, it feels like time flies even though it's almost 20 minutes long!
melódico, progressivo, tradicional sem soar piegas... obra prima dos reis do metal tradicional.... só o Maiden faz melhor que o Maiden.... The Rime of the Ancient Mariner é prova disso... em matéria de temas longos, somente eles conseguem compor sem soar cansativos... up the irons!!!!
The whole song is truly a masterpiece. Although it is about historical airship R101, the piano and the melody proves that Iron Maiden was, is and forever be the Greatest Metal Band ever
Absolutely the best song on the album. Bruce's voice perfectly paints the picture of the disaster, and is only enhanced by the dissonant sounding chords and frenetic rhythm at the moment of its crash.
This is one of the most dramatic IM song, I can almost feel the wind, storm, vibration of engines, sound of cracking shell. Amazing, unbelievable. What I learnt from this CD - Never lose faith in Iron Maiden. 2000 - BNW was 10/10, DoD 8/10, aMoLaD 7/10, TFF 6,5/10 and tBOS is 9/10...finally another epic album. Now we are waiting for 10/10 :D Get to work guys!
+Pontus mattsson TFF was cool but there was some issues with sound mix and Bruce voice (at least for me) but it's matter of opion - AMOLAD blow BNW out of the water any day of week for me.
I absolutely love that Bruce wrote this amazing progressive metal epic! I love prog rock and as soon as I saw that it was 18 minutes I knew I was gonna love it
+Anibal Lopez they wont. It would mean having to take an entire orchestra on tour with them just for the one song. But bruce has said they're likely to do a special rendition of it that would be 45 minutes long, so that's something to look forward to
***** yea he said after they're done with the world tour, if people still love the song, he's thinking of making it a big project with actors, narrative, a movie playing in the bg, a whole orchestra and really try to present the story in the best way possible and he said he presumes it to turn out about 35-45 minutes long
When I listen to this song, some bits here and there seem like they're unwinding into either Amazing Flight or The Truth is Here, both by Ayreon. I guess it's the rhythmic structure and pitch interval sequence, whether or not they're on the same key.
i just found out about the song and the r101 today. pretty crazy stuff. i think we tend to look back at the tech of the past and say it's so dangerous when compared to today. i feel we still do stupid stuff like driving 120 km/h on the highway meters to oncoming traffic going the same speed. i wonder what they will be saying 80 years from now about our time.
+1% DE TUDO there is morse code in the song, making out the letters S,O,S which of course are used to signal for help when for instance a plane is crashing which the song is about.
I want Bruce as my history teacher.
would be the best history teacher !!
OMG yes!!!!
+Alexander Petersen
It's really amazing how the voice of Bruce Dickinson remains perfect even after so many years, while the voice of James Hetfield ( Metallica ) ... +Fabio Olimpio either way, het still has a great voice
+ abdallah elhaddi Who?
This is not a song. It's a damn cold beer during summer, or a hot chocolate during winter. It makes you feel alive and aware again. Wonderful.
bella frase...rubo
Or a good old wisky in winter night
I couldn't have out it better myself.
The only problem with this song is that its too short :/
Yeah, I thought it was 23 minutes, then listened and saw it was just 18 minutes long.
LMFAO!
ifkr? it would've been so awesome to see it live!!
this song is awesome
It's not just a song it's a historical masterpiece
"Oh the dreamers may die, but the dreams live on..."
18 minutes never felt so short
Amazing song!!! This song right here proves that Bruce has always been an extremely important member of Maiden. All six members deserve to be part of this incredible band. Thank you Steve Harris for starting this great band forty years ago.
Right on.
Sitting by the pool, cold beer in my hand, blasting this as I watch the wispy clouds float by..... and I can do nothing but smile.
Iron maiden is the most brilliant and versatile metal band of all times. And Bruce Dickinson is by far the most advanced singer and metal singer of all times. the best thing about Empire is that it doesn't even 18 minutes long, it zips by so quickly and makes great use of its runtime it feels like a movie playing out in your heart almost.
*playing out in your head. ffs
+Scott Baldwin in your heart sounds good ;>
+Scott Baldwin true man!!! This song really is something...
Agreed!! It doesn't feel like 18 minutes...more like 5 well-used minutes!
A guy at my job insulted this song and the whole Book Of Souls album...does he have any musical tastebuds left?
+David S. No, he listens to Justin Beaver and Jacob Sartorius (if you dont know who Jacob is, do not search for him)
How many bands could write a masterpiece like this 40 years into their career? It would be very sad if this is the last ever iron maiden album, but if it is, what a way to go out and what a legacy to leave

Beautiful. My favorite band until i die.
The storytelling in their songs is amazing
This is such a Dickinson song. I think he is a brilliant vocalist and song-writer. Masterpiece!
I especially like the drums in this song. Some of Nikos best work.
***** Nickos got such a unique drumming style and sound that you can immediately tell who it is playing just by listening.
Bruce has singles him out in interviews for really making the whole thing flow
Rime of the ancient mariner was my favorite song until 2015. Since then it's definitely Empire of the Clouds. I don't think that a better one could be created. Maybe until their next album. I just hope it will be issued at latest next year!!! Thank YOU BRUCE!!! You will always be the best!!!
this is what Iron Maiden is all about, sublime song lyrics and music - greatest band ever, no doubt about it !!!
Want a truly awesome listening experience? Listen to the final track from each of the last five Maiden albums consecutively (The Thin Line Between Love and Hate, Journeyman, The Legacy, When the Wild Wind Blows, Empire of the Clouds). Just trust me.

+Patrick Allen hallowed be thy name, to tame a land, rime of the ancient mariner, alexander the great, fear of the dark, etc.
How about Alexander The Great, Mother Russia, Paschendale? Iron Maiden has the most extensive list of all! Love'em
rodzsoad journeyman* :)
+Patrick Allen well done, my good Sir, well done indeed! :)
Masterpiece.
As a diehard Maiden fan, I think this song is the best they've ever done.
I don't know if it is the best for me, but it's something really unique
Couldn't get enough of it.
Truly a masterpiece.
This song is especially emotional, since i was on the R101 when it fell... true masterpiece
+FirstAmongTheEquals Yeah right :D
+FirstAmongTheEquals I remember. I had fought in WW1 as an American and was in France visiting the graves of my fallen comrades when I saw this happen. I rushed to the scene to try and help. Because of the horrors I saw that day, and in the first world war. My life hasn't had meaning until I saw Iron Maiden come into creation.
+Johnny Tobifour there are no ww1 veterans alive
+Johnny Tobifour exposed lads
you are not old enough !!!!!!!
One of the very best songs I've ever heard and probably will hear. Unbelivable...
+Ali Hijazi Not the best IMO but a very good Song:D Maiden rocks
I lived to see Maiden make a 20 minute progressive heavy metal song.
10/10
9:27 Iron Maiden is back, never gone.
already at 7:20
+Appelgameplay X Dave Murray, no doubt
+Carlos Espinola oh yeah, definitely
+Appelgameplay X absolutely
+Carlos Espinola no doubt
Wow! been a maiden fan since their first studio album in 1980, still have original album cover and album in awesome shape and everyone since then.
This is my all time favorite song. It’s amazing. The last three minutes are the best; they can bring me to tears. Up the irons.
"Here lie their dreams as I stand in the sun, on the ground where they
built and the engines did run. To the moon and the stars, now what have
we done? Oh the dreamers may die, but the dreams live on!"

The best eargasm i've ever felt
One of the greatest songs in the world
beh...insomma....
It got me to truly understand how Death stands right behind every one of us at the right time. "Reaper standing beside her, With his scythe cuts to the bone"
hay algo increíble de estos tipos cuando escucho algo nuevo siempre digo me parece que es el mejor disco !!! Y SIEMPRE SIEMPRE se salen con algo mejor

Masterpiece!!! My favorite from this album.
With one song they surpass all of their previous work, and that on their 16th album... Only Legends like Maiden can make something like that happen. This is a masterpiece
they've said they'll probably be game for another album. there's only one way to top this:
a 32 minute retelling of all of world war one!!!
wkr64691 or all wars in 1900s
I'd rather they _not_ make every song Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner, because we all know that's what started all this.

Egyptian Overlord I feel the opposite. This song's runtime feels justifired, yet I think the Red and the Black goes on for about 3 minutes too long.
i just crying for this... magic exibition...iron maiden are king of music
When I hear a Justin Bieber song, it feels like a million years before it's over even though he has songs 2-3 minutes long but when I listen to this song, it feels like time flies even though it's almost 20 minutes long!
I can't believe Maiden still rocking! almost 50 years behind and still fucking making new albums and do live shows! UP THE IRONS MAIDEN FOREVER!
Iron Maiden's stairway to heaven
It’s thousands of times better than stairway.
+Costco Hot Dogs Um… no!
They already did that with hallowed be thy name, you could put together an entire album of Iron maiden's stairway to heavens
Hallowed Be Thy Name is not in anyway like Stairway To Heaven. HBTN is a heavy song.
Iron Maiden knows how to end an album!
melódico, progressivo, tradicional sem soar piegas... obra prima dos reis do metal tradicional.... só o Maiden faz melhor que o Maiden.... The Rime of the Ancient Mariner é prova disso... em matéria de temas longos, somente eles conseguem compor sem soar cansativos... up the irons!!!!
There is just one word to describe this song:Masterpiece.
IRON MAIDEN A MELHOR BANDA EM ATIVIDADE DO MUNDO.
The best Iron Maiden albums since Bruce and Adrian came back in my opinion are The Book of Souls and AMOLAD..but the others are very close.
The best iron maiden song they have made so far!
love this song it is one of their best
The whole song is truly a masterpiece. Although it is about historical airship R101, the piano and the melody proves that Iron Maiden was, is and forever be the Greatest Metal Band ever
18 minutes of pure pleasure!
This is pure art :D
this was so long and good it makes stair way to heaven one of the quickest song I heard.
Master-piece Song for sure !!!! i love iron maiden style and all the changes through the song
Absolutely the best song on the album. Bruce's voice perfectly paints the picture of the disaster, and is only enhanced by the dissonant sounding chords and frenetic rhythm at the moment of its crash.
People say this song is done badly, I love it. So many contrasts and the piano is simple but so amazing
"We're down lads, came the cry. Bow Plunging from the sky. 3,000 horses silent as the ship began to die..."-One of the greatest Lyrics of all time.
Great melodies and solos this is incredible.
the empire of clouds....que buen tema...tiene de todo
Para mim a melhor música do Iron.
This is one of the most dramatic IM song, I can almost feel the wind, storm, vibration of engines, sound of cracking shell. Amazing, unbelievable. +al2air I always thought the final frontier was pretty cool i do enyoy every album though lol.
+Pontus mattsson TFF was cool but there was some issues with sound mix and Bruce voice (at least for me) but it's matter of opion - AMOLAD blow BNW out of the water any day of week for me.
+al2air I agree with all notes, except Brave new world is 9/10 though and i'm generous.
Epic song and a musical rollercoaster!. Seeing them in June Tampa Fl
A true masterpiece... Way to go Bruce!
I absolutely love that Bruce wrote this amazing progressive metal epic! I love prog rock and as soon as I saw that it was 18 minutes I knew I was gonna love it

Best thing I've heard in months
A true masterpiece. . I wonder if they will play this one live. . . .
+Anibal Lopez they wont. It would mean having to take an entire orchestra on tour with them just for the one song. But bruce has said they're likely to do a special rendition of it that would be 45 minutes long, so that's something to look forward to

Sensacional esse álbum.
Amazing! Total masterpiece!

+Cássio Simer compartilho sua opinião.Tão boa que parece que eu ja conhecia.
+victor ribeiro Quem Pegou o Morse Code De SoS
NIETZSCHE #GoTrump #Bolsomito CAC?
If I had an hour to kill I would quite happily listen to this three times on the spin!
This and 2112 are the only songs I can listen to for 20 minutes
So many comments, and not a single one on Nicko's amazing drumming!
Now... This is music.... What a song........
Truly amazing... Love it!
Que linda música é Iron Maiden.
masterpiece!
18 minutes of awesomeness
WHEN I THINK THERE IS NO MORE, THEY DO IT AGAIN, LOVE YOU FOREVER MAIDEN
a musical rollercoaster
If I have to ever write a research paper about the R101, I am going to use this song as one of my sources!
7.18...best tune I've ever heard.
Ed Ok yes
Those fucking drums sound like thunder machines 12:55-13:36 Up the irons!!! Freaking awesome.
To,
Anibal Lopez,
Iron Maiden has played this song live the year this song released.
The only issue with this song is that it is too short, should last one hour! UP THE IRONS!
When I listen to this song, some bits here and there seem like they're unwinding into either Amazing Flight or The Truth is Here, both by Ayreon. I guess it's the rhythmic structure and pitch interval sequence, whether or not they're on the same key.
i just found out about the song and the r101 today. pretty crazy stuff. i think we tend to look back at the tech of the past and say it's so dangerous when compared to today. i feel we still do stupid stuff like driving 120 km/h on the highway meters to oncoming traffic going the same speed. i wonder what they will be saying 80 years from now about our time.
morse at 6:57
Never realized until now, that's genius
sorry
And,what that mean?
+1% DE TUDO there is morse code in the song, making out the letters S,O,S which of course are used to signal for help when for instance a plane is crashing which the song is about.
+I'mBurningStar IV No need to say sorry, I was genuinely surprised when I read the comment and really had a bit of a revelation XD
Iron Maiden é Sensacional 😊. . .
The best song on Book of souls! 🤘😎
