The very good point of this DHT S217 is the RCA Subwoofer out, I test it with my SVS 3000 micro and sound so great, the sub help very well this soundbar.

Another option might be the Samsung Q60b. I bought one to give away and was surprised for the performance at a 225 euro price tag. It beats easily other pricier competitors and is a bit underrated. Samsung probably wants to make more money on it's 'higher valued' models. For the rest, great job and take care. 😉

Thanks for the video! I wanted to upgrade from my basic Streambar with something up to 250 pounds and I find hard to spot a product suitable to sport, music and movies. I was impressed by the Polk React in your video but, as per Samsung budget soundbars, many reviews claim they are not durable items and need assistance within a year, hence my interest in 217. Yamaha may be an option but also saw some unimpressed feedback...
Can't comment about durability unfortunately! You'll probably always find more people complaining than complementing though.
Thanks for the review but why would you test the dialogue enhancement in the two situations where you don't need it (music, and narration with no background noise) and not in the one situation it was literally created for, which is movies where the dialogue is obscured by music and sound effects??
I'd love to know how you, or anyone using said feature would deal with it turning the feature on and off each time in a movie?

Films and tv shows these days sacrificing dialogue clarity for the impact of wider dynamic range is so widely recognised to be a consumer problem that dialogue clarity features like this product has are now popular across the market. Is this not familiar to you? You know the common trope of people complaining they can’t understand tv without subtitles these days? All the Bane memes? Christopher Nolen’s entire unintelligible oeuvre?? Not trying to be a dick, if this is a problem you are unfamiliar with I can only express my envy.

@@TotallydubbedHD could you give me some arguments? Regarding functionality I found that Denon lacks of LCD screen and has no Airplay, but it would be interesting to hear about sound differences.

@@pauliuspop If you somehow pick denon though, the lack of lcd it won't gonna bother you too much in the future. The led indicator it sufficient enough. It will tell you if you are in TV mode, bluetooth, optical or aux. And it also change color for just dts (green) or atmos (blue) or just stereo sound like youtube (white). It is all in manual book. Overall I like it dht-s217. Watching movie with it is great. And if you place it about 3 meter plus from your viewing distance, the sound completely even better.
@@Mojojoba I have this unit already for more than month. I cannot complain about the lack of lcd, but so far the biggest downside is that I have always to keep using dialog enhancer on highest preset. Otherwise it is quite difficult to hear and understand dialogues, especially on lower volume.

I don’t know how this sounds but the Vizio is amazing lol the bass can go from 0 to waaaayyy too much. Its miss and highs are clear as day too. It’s the best stereo system I ever owned without a separate subwoofer. I have only owned Vizio and Yamaha soundbars. For the price without a separate woofer I’d be shocked to see anything do better than the Vizio.
This one or polk audio react for music purpose? For an audiophile?
Quite similar but I'd pick the Polk
But it seems 217 and 517 similar sounding.. But the best and affordable denon are the 316 and 516. Can't you review the 316 and 516?

Just press other preset such as movie or music. It automatically turn off dialog enhancer.

DHT-217 uses eArc, not sure the 216 does.
s216 is Dolby digital & dts
s217 is Dolby True HD Atmos with hdmi earc and a Hdmi in for connect a bluray player or box TV or other and Denon sound is very neutral and hifi style. Very good, I test and measure s217 and s517
Denon DHT S517 much better, sound very very neutral in cinema mode by default ! I test it and measure it ! Atmos is very good too with real up-firing. Graph measurement in my next comment if YT don't erase it

I had the DHT-S216 and it sounded ok but I didn't like how I couldn't reduce the bass enough.
It just didn't sound right in everything I used it for. The down firing speakers were overpowering and sound was muffled.
I changed the demon for a Polk audio 5.1 soundbar and I have no regrets.

simple ! choose an another mode like cinema, music, etc.. these modes turn off automatically dialog enhancer
