Thank you for the video, very informative and gave me something to go on. I need to replace our old Bose soundbar as it's now pretty worn out, but I wasn't too keen on spending £900 them another £600 for the bass module for the latest one!
Hi..superb review. I noticed a USB connection on the rear of the soundbar. Would you know if its possible to play music from a memory stick on this unit?
One more question, but can it be better than a 5.1 sound bar or do you actually need a 5.1 soundbar with satellite speakers on the side of your couch. Also does it cut in and out during movies and music?
Hi Thank you for this. How does this compare with the Denon 550 you reviewed a couple of months ago? Mainly interested in TV stereo sound for my hard if hearing father. Best wishes
Would say the 550 would be a better pick for him, if that is the subwoofer isn't of importance/interest. If it is, then this or the Samsung bars mentioned would be the more sensible option!
How is anyone suppossed to know what your sound, sounds like when your viewing audience. Is listening to it from there own speakers weather it be from Iphone Tablet Laptop. ETC.
I have a q600b with 9200s rear speakers. I'm not too bothered by Atmos, but what are your views on the ambient beam technology, as I don't feel it makes that much difference on this bar. The overall 5.1 sound is very good in a lounge though. Great reviews 🙃
@@gudjuju your that dumb 😂😂 thinks denon is good, hahahahahahaha you wasted your money donkey Could have 3 times better for the same money can buy iq 😂😂
I currently use a Sky Soundbox, which does have good sound but not much side or ceiling projection. Also, the remote feature no longer works on it (a regular issue), so I am thinking about replacing it as around a dozen attempts to remedy it have got nowhere. This appeals because a. I like Denon, b. the price is good, c. the inputs are very useful as I think having two HDMIs and an optical really allows me to easily integrate it with my Sony Blue Ray and Sky Q box. We used to have a circa 2009 Samsung Blu Ray surround sound - which was pretty ropey with visuals, but did give a decent sound. However, it stopped working. This did give us a flavour of how good surround sound is - though I am not sure I wanted it when watching normal tv...only for movies. So, this model ticks a lot of boxes, but is there a system which has the inputs and two rear speakers and yet does not break the bank? It seems to have one you have to go up to at least £700 and probably more. Or, in a mid-to-smallish room would I get enough ceiling bounce out of the Denon to give me a reasonable semi-surround sound effect? Is so, that may be good enough since we are not always watching films and I am not sure I want surround sound for the news or normal tv shows - I think it would be annoying. Or maybe there is another soundbox with the features I need which would be better. I've next to no interest in the music side of things as I have a really excellent hifi system which I would always use. Thanks.
I ended up getting the S517..got an Open box deal..but looks NEW.. Its not to bad for the price i paid...i would NEVER pay retail for it... For mw Music preset sounds odd Novie sounds good.. But for Music i like Pure..sounds good... Ive tried a couple soundbars...but they allways have a problem with subwoofer level...even the lowest level is kinda high... I might still try the JBL at some point..
Can anyone describe how this sounds different compared to Polk s4 considering that they physically use same sound bar and seem to only differentiate in subwoofer and dsp settings?
why does my subwoofer from denan sounds very weak? i maxed the bass preset but has less bass then my tv speakers and yes subwoofer is connected as i can feel the subwoofer vibrating but it’s very close to my tv speakers is there something wrong? or does it lack bass?
I bought this soundbar on Amazon because I have an apple TV 4K and Apple TV plus has lots of Atmos content. I needed a soundbar with two HDMI connections. The ARC connection goes to the TV ARC HDMI and the other HDMI goes direct to the Apple TV. The subwoofer is pre-connected so it just works when powered on. I waited for a price drop which I was expecting near Black Friday.
Hi, just got a new LG 55 A1 TV & looking for my first soundbar. Budget of around 400 quid & wanting a good surround experience. Was. Looking at Samsung q700a then I saw this lol. Any one soundbar you recommend for my budget? Thanks.

@@TotallydubbedHD I’ve watched all 3 reviews for the Samsung q700a (seems to be discontinued), Denon DHT 517 & the majority sierra. I have a Samsung 50 'Q80A TV. Which Sound bars would you recommend from Denon DHT-S517 and Samsung Q700A. It will be used daily for everything not just movies
The Bose 900 Soundbar w/Subwoofer would be close to the audiophiles sound quality bar, as far as sound bar class goes. With crisp, detailed highs, present mid and ground rattling deep bass, the Bose 900 is one of the 'full' and 'richest' sounding bars out there. I'd like to know where this Denon places in all of this? All these soundbar features mean nothing, unless these makers can get them as close to, or on par with receiver/speaker component systems in terms of sound quality.
hey Einstein, the bose is also more than double the price of the Denon DHT-S517. so of course, the bose is better, as it should be. what you get with the denon is a great soundbar at a deal. not many folks these days want to spend $700+ on a soundbar.

How does the quality compare to the Polk signa s4? Should I go ahead and get a thousand dollar unit?
Not sure, not tried it!
It depends on the space you have! Some people what separate speakers with a home theater receiver that process Dolby, DTS. And others.
