Years ago I had a job where I stayed at a hotel in McAllen and worked at a factory in Reynosa a couple of times a year. I always found a chance to hike at Santa Ana if I could.
The Spanish inscription at 7:05 reads, "With a date of 5 August 1876 here lie the ashes of Mr. Cristoval Leal. He passed away at 43 years of age leaving behind fond memories as a good husband and loyal citizen. Mrs. Rafaela Treviño, loyal wife, consecrates them to his memory. R.I.P." Interesting features are the archaic spelling of "llacen" [lie, as in "here lie"], which today would be spelled "yacen," the several (also archaic) digraph versions of "E" to make "el" [the] or "de" [of], and the abbreviation "D.E.P." [Descansa En Paz], which literally translates to "rest in peace." I also am somewhat surprised that cremation was a thing in 1876 Catholicism. I thought it was forbidden until much more recently than that.
Native San Antonian here, we love Ft Clark area outside of Del Rio. Love Del Rio too but with 20000 landing all at once - turns us off as far as visiting the area as a serene get away. I feel for the environment (human waste) and native Texans from the area. I myself am Mexican American many generations fam came over with Spanish. Insane 20000 COME AT ONCE, & from overseas too!
You can in Texas state parks. Same rules as elsewhere in Texas. This is a National Wildlife Refuge and you can carry there too except inside buildings.
I've been on some hikes around this country and I left out Texas, Florida and the Great plains like Is Nebraska and Kansas to name two. The reason is because of the lack of hiking in those states. So don't call it hiking when it's more like a Sunday walk. Because that's all Texas has are walks... NO hiking.
Beautiful thank you.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great video as always. Thanks!
Excellent video, again.
Awesome! What a gorgeous bird! Thank you for sharing!

The Bobcat sighting had to be a thrill. Thank you for sharing. I will have to make sure to put this on my 'To Do List.'
Wow! And that Green Jay
Wonderful video! Thank you...👍😎🌲🇨🇦
That rope Bridge looks awesome!
This was my favorite hike of yours so far. The birds and bridge and bobcat(?) were really cool.
So pretty

It costs lots of money to be buried. There may have been a plague going on back then in the area too
Interesting. I appreciate your taking time post this.
Bobcats, butterflies and birds..
. A bonanza of beauty.
In winter should be good to see the wildlife
The breeze looks lovely! And the birds are thrilling to see!
That is one place I need to visit. Great vid.
This looks nice but I would hate to encounter a coyote
There's another cemetery just outside of the refuge. It's called Brewster's cemetery. It's a little hidden treasure.
I didn't know there was a cemetery there. I need to check it out.
How close are you to Del Rio?? You're pretty close to the border... Be careful... Can you carry at a state park during a BORDER INVASION??

Del Rio is like three hours north of this. He's in the RGV. That's nowhere near del Rio. Del Rio is up by Laredo going wayyy north west🤦🤦🤦

Hahaha, what an ignorant and uninformed comment.
Yikes
