I was at 2012 and watched this race, they make it look so easy to swim so fast but very few people know how hard they had to work to get to this level. I know because my children are swimmers
Filip Velkov Heart attacks can happen to anyone, especially people who are pushing their bodies to the limit. 2008 Olympics saw a swimmer from a landlocked African country compete who barely made it to the end of a length! #OlympicLifeguardAndProud :P
While that's true, Olympic swimmers have the strong hearts. That sounds corny. They push themselves to the limits in practice... God knows what they do there. But when Olympic races come they rest, their heart that's passed thousands of kilometers of swimming is rested, and a mere 400 m with pacing yourself isn't gonna kill them. I know I've seen that race, that person barely knew how to swim xD
Now I have my bachelors degree but I still remember Michael Phelps as the reigning champion at swimming in a general knowledged text when I was in grade 5 or 6 I can't remember
I swim 100 m butterfly in 1,39 seconds 🤟🏻 I do train and i also wins lods of competitions but i am kind of happy bc im really fast for being 12 years old
these are the prelims meaning they have to swim this again which is why you don’t try like crazy if you know you will make finals so you can go super fast
What determines the seeding or positioning during the heat? I know that in the final round, the seedings are based on the 8 fastest time during the heat. What about before the heat? Anyone?
First two fastest olympic qualifiers in the last heat on 4th and 5th blocks... Then third and fourth in second last heat and so on.... Where are you from?
@@abradolflincler3257 Ahhhh I see. Thanks! I looked this up and got to know that these guys learn to count their strokes from a very young age for particular distances. That may also explain how they know where the wall is.
I don't think that was the finals. Idk if it wasn't the finals Phelps just wants to have a good placement in the finals that's why he didn't try it seemed.

I was the lifeguard for this race! ;D the blonde boy sitting halfway down the pool every first length of each stroke ;D
+Dave Goater
I saw you!
How useless are lifeguards in Olympic races xD Maybe just maybe a swimmer might faint or cramp up but... pretty weird xD

Phelps still seemed to be swimming fast in this event even by being ten seconds slower than his own world record.
In my opinion, Phelps has the best butterfly form.
It’s not the finals he doesn’t need to sprint
Cseh's stroke is so smooth and relaxed.
That thumbnail looked insane
If only state prelims for me were like this. With me everyone was like “let’s go as fast as we can in the prelims, then go faster in the finals”
michael phelps is the best all round swimmer i do swim and thats very good

I am so happy for him to win
All that woman commentator talks about is how great phelps is, completely disregarding the quality of the other swimmers. She does it in every video.
They are US commentators, obviously they gonna talk about US swimmers

laszlo cseh kicks only once every stroke, even though he is the only decent competitor for phelps
I dont get it. When these guys are performing a backstroke how do they know they're gonna hit the wall so they can flip over?
Maaz Khan notice the flags on top at the near-end of each walls; an indication that they have 2-3 more strokes before the flip turn
