I have 2 GSD's. I got them both at the same age about as this one. They are now 6 years old. I have never spent a night away from them. Little ones like this can cure so much heartache and just plain ole brighten your day.

3 weeks ago I bought an 8 week old German Shepherd puppy. The first couple days she was apprehensive being she was in a new environment but then she turned into a demon. Lol. She turned 11 weeks old yesterday and for the past two weeks all she does is bite anyone who comes in contact with her. I have owned dogs my whole life but never a German Shepherd , hope it's just a phase she's going through.
I know what you're going though. He is just the same. They are so energetic dogs and they need a lot of attention to keep everything on the place and keep them safe. If you had dogs before it is good to have German Shepherd with another dog, so they can play with each other, so you will have more time for yourself and you don't have to worry that your house will be eaten. And have hope that they don't make a clever plan how to outplay you.

At seven weeks he should still be with his mama. Puppies need to be with their mama until they're at least 8 weeks old, better 12.
It's true Maike. His breeder separated the puppies so early, too soon, which I knew on the day I came for him. It caused some problems with such horrible, biting hands when it finally stopped when he got older.

He's cute, but I'm really confused. A few years ago, a lot of European officials and breeders said that this dog race should not be bred anymore due to the immense health issues. It deteriorated very fast during the last decade and many adult German Shepherds suffered from cancer, different kinds of joint dysplacias, problems with their backs, severe allergies and so on. That's why the police in a lot of European countries changed to work with Belgian Shepherds. I never knew one who even made it to 8 years in Germany. So there are still some people out there who breed them? But why?
I've never hear anything about this. German Shepherds are very popular in Europe. They are still the most common rase which work in police. It is still important to buy the puppy from the good breeder and look for good parents and grandparents of the puppy in order to decrease the risk of any healthy issues to the minimum, but that is true to any purebred dog. It is true that German Shepherd now are not the same German Shepherd which were bred in 1996, but they still are one of the best dogs to work with. All German Shepherd I've known lived 12 and above.
@@guardianangels4165 Our police definitely mostly use the Malinois and Boxer, sometines even the Tervueren or Durch Sheperd, or other breeds like Bloodhound or Labrador Retriever for tracking by now. Sorry, I did another research and asked around and a lot of former breeders changed to other subbreeds or closed. My sister is a vet and even she says that the numbers of pure German Sherperds - especially with the lower rump- were getting rare during the last years in her practice and in the ones of her colleagues due to massive bone, back and joint problems. I mean, it's ok to own one, but it would be sad if a dog had to suffer as an adult when it could have been avoided. I personally love the Leonberger but would never buy one due to similar reasons and severe health issues of that race.
@@syroleelane2794 You're right about the problems that Germans Shepherds have. We can not call them "healthy" breed now. Many breeders've followed this style, or we can call it trend, to breed their dogs in that way to achieve the lowest rump as it is possible. It cost a lot of issues not only with the skeleton of the dog, but also with other healthy problems while were choosing the dogs with the lowest rump which DNA were very closed to each other. To all German Shepherds owners and the people who consider choosing this wonderful breed, it is important to look at parents and grandparents of the future puppy. It is important to not to choose the German Shepherds with lower rump. We should choose those which have the highes rump as possible. The trend will change when the people will think about what they are choosing. And it is not about that the German Shepherd with the high rump deserves more love than this with lower rump. But like you said it is for dogs good, for their future health. We should choose wisely.
Yep he's cute, and carrying around shoes, even "toy" shoes, is cute, until he now, and as an adult, chews your new $200 boots. I'd advize you to nip that little "cute" habit Now, or He will be paying for it in punishment and confusion, and it will cost you a load of shoes, and it will be YOUR fault that you both pay for!!! I have a GS, got her at 9 months old. Previous owner allowed her to chew on blankets and bedding and pillows, anything soft. Tore up her new $100 bed, and is now on her 4th blanket in 3 years. I finally trained her out of the pillows, she doesn't get soft toys, and had to give in and allow her her own (cheap blankets), one per year. She was self housebroken already, never touched my shoes, never tore anything else up, no excessive barking, no digging in the yard, gets along with other animals and people, so I let her have the blanket issue. I can live with it, she is happy, win/win. But I see too many people cause their dogs problems, that all start in puppyhood because it's so cute now.
What you wrote here is so true. For a dog, it doesn't matter if it's a $ 1 or $ 200 shoe. Puppies in particular have trouble chewing everything around them because of the pain in their growing teeth. He has his own blanket that he chews when he feels like it (he hasn't ripped it off yet). He stays home alone from time to time, he has never broken anything (usually he sleeps then). While GS is still chewing things when he/she is 7 months old and over, consider buying him/her raw bones, it really helps and is healthy. Excessive barking, digging, and very often breaking / chewing things is the problem of not being given the dog the enough work and exercise that GS were made for - this is, in my opinion, the most important thing that causes the "problems" that new owners of the GS have, often due to the lack of knowledge before choosing this breed.
