Ordered a relay from Amazon for my son's FZ6R to fix the hyper-flash and it did not work...even though the relay was advertised to fix the hyper-flash when using LED indicators. Glad this was an easy fix for you. I will be going with the in-line resisters next.
Those fixings are called Scrivets, a cross between a screw and a rivet. They don't take kindly to being constantly removed and replaced, good to see you took your time and didn't round off the screw head, like someone I could mention, who looks a lot like me! lol
What a legend and all without the aid of a safety net. I don't want to burden your mind, but you know that dirty inner panel will way on your OCD mind..."clean me" happy dreams :)
I recently installed LED indicators on my MT-09. Purchased them from TST Industries. Their website recommended a "smart" relay which works with tungsten, LED or a mix. Also incorporated a little dial to allow the blink rate to be adjusted. Maybe of help to anyone else facing the same issue.
You can get LED indicator globes with inbuilt resistors to eliminate the issue without external ballasts or new flasher relay. Just won't reduce electrical load, which for an indicator on a modern bike isn't really even an issue
Cool! One problem solved! Well done. I am always hyper-nervous when I have to take a fairing off. They are so fragile and I always think, I'll break it.
Those electronic relays also work well on some classic bikes that have weak or poorly regulated charging systems where the flasher speed varies with engine speed.
hi thanks for the video. recently fitted 2 rear indicators.there not led just smaller indicators with bulbs .but they are hyper flashing like yours .front indicators are standard. would this relay help.thanks
Is there anything wrong in keeping the hyper flashing - I quite like how it looks especially with my new indicators... i.e. could this pose a problem at 1) MOT 2) does the speedier flashing reduce the life of the bulb / LED?
Go job TMF. Did the same on a 2006 R1 (American spec model) to change to EU indicators from the big bulbous ones fitted for the US market. Bought from Taz Motorcycles which I believe are now Wheels Motorcycles in Peterborough!?
Japanese bikes don't use Phillips screws, but JIS screws (Japanese industry Standard) similar but different. Get yourself a set of Vessel JIS drivers for the Honda. 👍
The resistor trick WILL work, but if you are using LEDs to reduce the load on your bikes charging system, the resistors just add the load back in.....the LED flasher is a better way. On older bikes, you MAY need a diode to separate left and right sides. Modern bikes already have this diode.
Nice one TMF, relay always the way toi go, i have a stockpile of those in line resistors never got them to work properly, but they keep your hands warm!
Slightly off topic but if you are working on any Japanese bike, like your Honda, treat yourself to a set of JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screwdrivers. You won’t believe the difference over using a Philips type screwdriver. They offer a far more positive engagement when the screwdriver tip locates into the screw head.
@@TheMissendenFlyer- It would make an interesting topic for a video. You can pick up a decent set of JIS screwdrivers for around the £25 mark. I picked up my set from the Newark Autojumble.
I’ve just fitted new LED indicators and a “smart relay” BUT on tick over the indicators flash at normal speed , but when I get on the bike and ride over 10mph + the indicators hyper flash. I don’t really want to fit resistors , I’m hoping to resolve it with the relay. Any ideas ??
The signal box uses a specific amount of power to function properly. But you are starting to use normal lights and LEDs and that gives problems. Either have all LED or all normal lights and get the signal controller that belongs to the light type. But no mixing the 2. Now you don't have to use all sorts of tricks and you can install it quick and easily with the wires already there.
Good job👍. I found another problem when changing all four indicators to LED which in the future you may change the 2 fronts. This will likely cause the four indicators to flash regardless which turn left or right you press on the switch. Two solutions to this 1 first simple one is to remove the indicator warning bulb on the dash. Not ideal ! You could be indicating all the way in a straight line then realise at the next turn ! It does happen if you forget to Center the switch. 2 is best solution although it involves soldering or splicing wires. So the two wires from the indicator bulb will both need cutting. A diode kit will have 2 into one wires ! Take the two wires and join them to the bike side which you’ve just cut. The single wire goes to the bulb side and a 3rd short earth wire connected to the remaining bulb side and fixed to an earth point on the frame 👍. Something I’ve had to do recently and without you tube and internet id have struggled. Thought I’d pass on that info cos it’s just another head scratcher otherwise. 😊👍
ah plug and play at last good job ..normally when you are tinkering i feel very protective and want to be there like an older brother keeping you safe..lol...👍🏻☮❤
So the R&G fix didn't appear to be the right solution. They've not come out looking too good with this modification. Who's relay was it? Were they bike specific or generic?
+Bass Player recommended this one on the last video. Looks like it's the correct plugs and gets good reviews on most Japanese bikes www.amazon.co.uk/BIKE-AFTERMAKRKET-INDICATOR-FLASHER-RELAY/dp/B002RB4D6M/ref=sr_1_8?keywords=LED+flasher+relay&qid=1559065780&quartzVehicle=21-320&replacementKeywords=led+flasher&s=automotive&sr=1-8
Good job....it's just not worth using resistors when the relay sorts it so easily. And you can combine LED and regular indicators. Anyway, must go...TWAAP has a new video about riveting her exhaust....! Steve

I think this worked for him because he only changed the rear indicators. If front as well LED it probably won't work
Anyone else that is struggling I bought a relay that U can turn the flash down which I installed to my bike and it has worked
I love your surprise when some thing works.....the ACF50 and the compressor was a classic.....keep em coming TMF.

For someone who is representing the ageing population, I think you are doing really well. Most enjoyable.
Blimey "representing the ageing population" - I never thought that would be me!!!
@@TheMissendenFlyer Yes it's always a bit of a shock when someone says something like that...LOL
Hi TMF, greetings from sunny Thailand. I was amazed at how quick and easy that was, next job is to change the front indicators to match......
Yes I really should....thanks for watching!
Glad u fixed the prob, was totally surprised the one flasher unit could regulate both types of indicator at the same time.
You and me both!

..tell me about it - it already is!
Dude, love that garage and all the bikes in there.
Relay is the proper fix, resistors just load the electrical system back up and convert it to heat.
...so I understand! Job done!!
Relays are fine if you’ve changed all the indicators but if you e got a mix a relay may not do the job.
...which is why i thought this wouldn't work!
@@shaunbarclay1309
Apparently this relay is designed differently and does not set the flashing frequency based on electrical load.
I had the same issue thought my indicators were busted, glad I saw this video. Great help !!!!! 👍
I find myself enjoying your videos even if I don't have any particular interest in the topic!
Excellent news!
What no cleaning the panels before putting it back, who are you and what have you done with the real TMF🤪😃🤓
