    We are building a shed and bought this to assist us Does not include any type of blueprints but very helpful to remind you about permits, different ways of doing the foundation or roof ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxcLVQopTIucrxiVRQA0khLGQEnDVKCSMG and why they need to be that way, it also includes "pro tips" and lots of pictures and videos Very informative! I also bought it used for 3.18 plus shipping and in "good" condition. It had a little dent on the cover but that was it. Glad I bought it!

    The first two eves course are on at the wrong gauge hence that you are nail two eternits together then why not bring the valley laths closer to each other so you can dress the lead over them to make an upstand, it would be a lot more water tight and the best way when slating a valley in. Use blanks for verges to.

      It’s not nailed at the bottom it’s a copper disc / rivet that sits between the two lower eternits, the eternits have a hole in the centre at the bottom the the rivet goes through then you bend the rivet down, this is so the eternits does not lift due to wind and from curling up from sunlight.

    • @deanhead9193

    I used to roof this way. Then I discovered slate hooks, no need for nails or copper tags. brilliant. Only nail the verges. Rubber slates and hooks is the future. No broken slates. There is now a gas fired device for fixing the slate hooks. Never though I would see that.! No need for 3/4 under eave slates neither. Use continuous under eaves. 3m long. A good looking secure roof.

    The only issue I have is how the lead sheet valley was installed ,why didn't you leave the lead another 3 inches longer on both sides so you could have formed the lead up and over your firing strips on the outside of the valley ?
    On tile roofs when you install chimney pans and valley metal you always turn up the outer edges of your metal work to prevent heavy rains from being wind driven under the tile ,I fully understand the true waterproofing system here isn't the slate tiles ,it's the underlayment system ,however it's good roofing pratice to prevent water from entering the tiles any chance you get ,you guys did a good looking job that should meet all warenty requirements easily but think about what I said about " rolling " your valley lead up and on top your strips ,in an area with heavy snow & ice loads having your leads turned up may be what prevents an ice dam from forming underneath your slate and pulling a valley apart ,investment seen it happen .

    • @SocialistChampagne
      @SocialistChampagne 7 років тому +4

      The valley batten (firing strips?) can't be covered in lead, as that's where the valley slates need to be nailed - lead valleys should only be nailed (with copper or stainless steel) at the top and not on the sides or bottom. There should also be a welt (roll). These guys have done a sub-standard installation by doing the bare minimum.
      A battened roofing system would be nearly impossible to have ice dams, as there would be no ice restricting the flow of water on the underlay to the eaves/gutter.

    • @Sitdown570
      @Sitdown570 6 років тому +3

      They cut the lead into 1 half metre lengths and then nailed them all together 😂😂😂 welt the lead on the edges all the way up the valley, wear gloves and use a dresser at all times, other than that it’s great 👍👍

    • @gaza19661310
      @gaza19661310 4 роки тому

      @@SocialistChampagne the best way is to have upstand over the laths in a valley, just put the lead half bonded onto the valley laths to give you the other half to nail and while not effecting the lead so it can still contract and expand, but like you say they haven’t even bothered to put a welt on and this is a very poor job and will certainly leak.

    Красиво смотрится, подойдёт для теплого, сухого климата. Для Москвы не подходит. Влага где нибудь просочится, мороз влагу расширит, цикл за циклом больше. Если герметик, то можно. Дорого. Но красиво. При наличии денег можно. Молодцы.

    I am wondering am I allowed to do this myself in the UK, or do I need
    any kind of permission from the local council? I do have experience in
    re-roofing, as I was working in construction abroad. Also, am I allowed
    to put up a scaffolding myself, or does it need to be by a firm? Great

      You don’t need any tickets to carry out roofing work. A lot of rough cowboys take advantage of that and do shitty jobs. Means us proper roofers have to come in and clean up after them.

      I am not a roofer or in construction but that roof does look beautiful though. I do see several people making comments about the valley I think it's for the two different roof lines meet. If you don't do that area right there can be leaking which would be horrible for the homeowner and costly for the homeowner. So it sounds like there are things other people would do that might make it works better.

Then it is no problem.Easy to spend taxpayer money. When you´ve used it all just screw the poor taxpayer for more.Simple.

      Mike F are you serious about " Paper " , they could have installed those slate directly over the firing strips and the building wouldn't leak due to the corrugated roof decking by itself ,then they installed a self sealing adhesive backed Ice & water shield membrane over the entire roof deck before installing their firing strips ,then a lead sheet valley ,this job doesn't have any paper .

    Amateurs at best, probably one of those brickys that can put any roof on as well 🤦🏼‍♂️. Lead on to breather felt, any roofer would no why that’s a big no. Not to mention nailing through both pieces of lead. Eaves and dummy course shabby again roofers can see and know why. Personally I’d use slate and halves to complete the look but as the halves are tight under a verge I think they’re fine. I mean they don’t even look like roofers where are your pockets 🤷🏼‍♂️
