  • In this video, I'll show you how to play the iconic guitar lick by Cornell Dupree on the live version of the King Curtis classic "Memphis Soul Stew." This blues/soul/r&b lick uses double stops. The original studio recording guitar part was played by session ace Reggie Young.

Reggie Young in the studio version, he came up with the lick.

Thanks for the great video! How about Cornell's super smooth and beautiful guitar on the original Soul Serenade? Such great voicing and tone. I don't have the technique. The chords are easy enough but you don't hire Cornell for that 😀

Loved this lesson!! Maybe something from The Meters next. That Tele sounds killer!

Thanks! I’m a HUGE Meters fan, so I’ll definitely break down some Leo Nocentelli stuff.

Very Nice Lesson. Is this straight into the Princeton Reverb, Reissue? What pickups are you running in your Tele?

Thanks! Yes, straight into the Princeton. I've got Ron Ellis pickups in this guitar.

Nice lesson. Any ideas what chords are being played after the sax solo?

Thanks! On the original recording, the sax solo is over an A blues form and it rides out there for the remainder of the tune.

On the fillmore west recording the song jams in e. Then toward the end it switches to the same jam but in a. So you get a, d and e until the end
