- Me in my original 1968 LO23 Hurst Hemi Dart at Thunder Valley Dragways in Marion, South Dakota. August 11, 2019. Getting the suspension dialed in so we can start turning up the shift points, transbrake, etc. Ran a 9.20 at over 146 on this run.
When I say "original", I am referring to the fact that this car is indeed one of approximately 80 original 1968 Hurst Hemi Darts, it is NOT a clone! It is obviously not "all original" as in "bone stock", since I pulled the original Super Stock 426 hemi for safekeeping, and am running an all-aluminum 604 cubic inch hemi engine. I believe this run was a 9.24 at 146-147 mph. Still breaking in the engine and dialing in the chassis. This car should run 8.80s at 150+ mph when it is fully sorted.

@огромная эрекция I can tell you've never heard of the LO23 Hemi Dart before bro. These cars picked up the front wheels straight off the showroom floor. Here's a quote from an article about the car. "Chrysler engineers stated the new 1968 Hemi Dart could reach speeds of 130 mph in less than 11 seconds and factory quarter mile times in the 10-11 second range, although times have been reported as low as the 9-10 second range." That is one incredibly fast Hemi. The view from the drivers perspective really makes it look so much faster than watching from an outside camera shot.
The Torque Flite behind the Hemi engine sure did what is was supposed to do! Imagine that, an automatic transmission with only 3 speeds! They have made their mark in history, no matter what kind of car they’re in. Good Day Everyone!

I was a 7th grader in 1967 and a total hot rod freak. My buds and I would go into grocery stores and straight to the big magazine racks.....and right into the copious amount of Hot-Rod-drag-type mags that were offered. It was then that I remember reading about this new 1968 Hemi Dart and Hemi Cudas that were being readied in limited numbers....as well as the new Mustang 428 Cobra Jet drag car. Finally saw those '68 Hemi cars run at Beeline Dragway in Scottsdale soon after.....can remember that NOTHING.....NOTHING....sounds quite like a Hemi under hard load when launching from the tree. Totally insane. When I was a kid, my brother and I spend days, weeks, months, trying to find a Dart GT, in good shape. This was in 1976. Even then, it was impossible to find a numbers matching 383 or 440 Dart. I mean, the amount of work: Four Sunday paper want ads, Little Nickle, Wednesday Automotive section of two local papers, countless hours driving the family wagon from lot to lot..... It was exhausting.... But, we finally found a 72, Demon 340..... Love these Grandma looking sleepers, to this day.

Damn...!!! I used to daily a 440 powered 68 Dart, and it turned mid 11s every weekend. But a Hemi dart??? Omg a whole other level. What a dream car!!! (Right next to a Daytona!!!)

One thing I've learned when it comes to racing cars, the ones that know what they are doing don't get on UA-cam arguing about who's the fastest, is it stock or not, etc.....they line up and let there times do the talking. If you want to know who not to worry about when it comes to fast cars and knowledge, just read some of the people's comments, arguing, etc... on this video.

@@rtkl13 Yeah, friend of mine in High School had a 68 with a 383 4bbl. Nothing special. But his Dad for craps and giggles put a 5.13 rear gear in that thing. It would only hit 80mph. But people would pay him to ride in it around town. Street light to street light was unreal for a 14-18 year old....

I remember this car! Back in 2017 when I was in college I saw your son driving this and following you in your F8 Green Demon! First Demon I ever saw and first LO23 too. I gotta get to know you guys because I live in Sioux Falls now and spend a ton of time at TV with Rod Neugebauer and the other Mopar guys! lol
You must be mistaken about the driver. I'm the only one who drives this car (all of my boys are too terrified to take this car down the dragstrip, and I wouldn't let them, plus this car isn't street legal so it's only driven at the track). Unless you saw us briefly move them from the trailer to the event (car show or dragstrip). But other than that- sounds good! Come up and chat with any of us sometime!

Jake M Correct, not the original engine or suspension, although I have everything for the car. The point of the original term was that this is a true original 1968 factory lightweight Hurst Hemi Dart, as opposed to the myriad of clones that are out there of this car

I had a sixty- eight dart. Slant six with 4 feet of straight pipe. Sounded great but didn't move like this. Well done.
That automatic was pretty cool. All that gear grinding, missed shifts and shifter rods jamming up makes me wish I had automatic sometimes. Remember how the crappy Muncie 4 speed would get stuck in reverse. 😆

My Dad left me his 1965 Dodge A990 Coronet 426 Post Hemi he ordered from Mr Norm Grand Spaulding Dodge. But my Mom was so stubborn she would not take the car so it got crushed I guess in 1976 in Cicero Illinois.. it kills me every time cause it's the only memory I have with my dad and me going out and him jumping on it and liftin the car up in the air...
Man, that would be so awesome to actually do a 1/4 mile run behind the wheel of that car.
