Its been a year and half since I found this video, and I stil probably watch it at least once a week, sometimes everyday. Honestly, amazing work my man
Synchronicity! I watched The Final Countdown again last night. The dogfight with the Zeroes is epic. And oh how I love the Tomcat. The way the birds go down on their haunches right before the cat shot ... wow!
I hate to say this because I like the game play on DCS but there is a Tomcat on FSX..... I got halfway thru the vid I was watching on it before I realized it..... I cant wait to see how it comes out for DCS
What do you mean keep dreaming? Leatherneck simulations is working on one right now, and regularly posting teasers of it. It's current schedule is to release for early access late this year, but we all know DCS modules get pushed back.... Still, an F-14 is well on the way for DCS World
I always loved those Tomcats, and think they were the best air superiority fighter for the navy and in the history of the USA. That is only my opinion. It looked like a high speed hot rod. And you knew it means business.
I feel your pain. When my dad showed me the newspaper in 2006 when VF-31 transitioned to the Hornet and the Tomcat was officially retired, I started crying. All I ever wanted to do was fly that airplane.
PylonProductions I was lucky enough to be the last combat controller to drop ordnance off the Tomcat. It was the last combat cruise in late 2005, in Al Qaim Iraq.
it may not have the reputation of the f16, or the f15, but it really it really was the workhorse of the navy's combat aircraft. it still looks great too, visceral and aggressive, with the twin tail and that swing wing.
I'm not sure if it was intentional, but the F-14 possessed lifting body flight characteristics. The flat, wide body allowed it to fly even after extreme damage. theaviationist.com/2013/11/06/f-14-damaged/
they have fuselage flight characteristics similar to the Su-27 & derivatives and even the F-15 Eagle. The flat wide body inadvertently creates an area of lift.
The AIM-54 was a half tonne missile designed to accelerate a 61 kg warhead to mach 5 in order to intercept 58 tonne supersonic bombers before they could splash a carrier, it needed a heavily reinforced weapon station and a lot of room, because it was a hefty son of a bitch. Because the technical challenge of mounting weapon stations on swing wings the tunnel between the engine nacelles on the F-14 has six of the plane's ten weapon stations. The other four weapon stations are on the (non-pivoting) wing glove. But of the four weapon stations on the wing glove only two were capable of fitting the AIM-54 and the other two can only mount AIM-9 Sidewinders. Basically, without the tunnel weapon stations the F-14 would not have room to fit a respectable missile load.
One of the many reasons is because during Vietnam most F-4 Phantoms experienced dual engine failure when hit by the enemy and an engine failure occured, making the dual engine design useless. By spreading them apart the chances of losing both engines due to enemy fire was decreased.
Also I have seen this before, This is where the USS Enterprise (I think was the CV in this Movie) is sent back in time. Was a good, short, but good movie :D
i wonder if the pilots had the feeling they were flying something special, something that would become legend and an icon and not just another day in the cockpit ?
They were both made for different purposes one, was a carrier multi role fighter the other was a air superiority fighter. F-14 in some tests did receive faster speeds, but F-15 was more maneuverable.
Yes totally different not even in the same class to compare. The F-14 was built as a platform to launch the Aim-54 Phoenix Missile, a BVR Missile that coupled with the AWG-9 Radar system could track multiple targets and be able to engage them via the RIO. The f-14 was a Ship bound interceptor that although could engage in some dogfights, and did have speeds up in the Mach 2.2, this was not it's main roll. It's all about the Fox 3 BVR.
Holy fuck this movie sounds awesome. "The Final Countdown is a 1980 alternate history science fiction film about a modern aircraft carrier that travels through time to the day before the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor."
Fun fact the F-14 engines produced so much energy that they could cause heat stress on the jet blast deflectors and potentially rip them apart. also the f-14 could go vertical at full afterburner and gain speed which is more impressive than it sounds.
Oh I saw this movie years ago, I remember it being similar to the Philadelphia experiment (camouflage a ship/making it invisible) The 80's had some fantastic movies and these tomcat clips are excellent.
7+ years on and still one of my favorites. And well ahead of the curve with the song choice, too...
My RWR spike just went from the 6 o'clock to the 12.

Danger zones internally

still my favourite aircraft of all time. I'd love to see more Ralfi.
if they put one of these babies into DCS it would be a dream come true.
They are... Leatherneck Simulations.

I hate to say this because I like the game play on DCS but there is a Tomcat on FSX..... I got halfway thru the vid I was watching on it before I realized it..... I cant wait to see how it comes out for DCS
It'll be neat to finally see those airborne in DCS World.
Ikr
Soon™
Keep dreaming
+Blame USA well at least we know one is in development so we don't have to dream too hard :)

I'm playing around with a part II. Not sure if I will release it, still in the testing stages.
If it's anything close to his video it will be great.
ralfy, your second part of this is still copyrightbanned in germany and i cant watch it.....
fkn GEMA!!!
Just in case we didn’t know who wins in the fight against the zero ;)
I suspect the footage here pleases the fighter gods.
Indeed sir it does

Probably the coolest aircraft ever to reach the skies. Fantastic design. Really awesome camera work here. Music feels so much like 80's haha. 10/10
Didn't expect it
Didn't disappoint
Very professional Ralph, keep up the hard work
Only wish you had more of the dreamy sequences like at 1:48 with the clouds drifting by the bow of the CV. Still a really awesome vid.
this is giving me major feels. i will never be a tomcat wso in the golden days of the cold war, why even live?

I can't wait to have it on DCS
Awesome!!! And the movie is a favorite of mine!!
I have a copy of that film on DVD. All plane lovers should watch it. The Final Countdown. Martin Sheen is in it I think. Epic.
Damn, if every compilation was as cinematic as this movie.... and the music is just on point.
Man, about the last thing I expected from this channel was a film set to Frankjavcee music. It works though
Great vid ralfi, very good wide aesthetic.
Definitely looking forward to a part 2.
I loved this movie! Good job Ralfie!
You know, the Man and Machine video by Moondragon just popped up in my suggested videos a few hours before watching this one. Good timing!
it may not have the reputation of the f16, or the f15, but it really it really was the workhorse of the navy's combat aircraft. it still looks great too, visceral and aggressive, with the twin tail and that swing wing.
The F-14 is so amazing. Been my favorite since the After Burner arcade
Wow Ralfi! This was great!
to me, teh yt feed seems to have quality stuff like this today... aah, summer days.
Ralfidude with a piece of vaporwave unbelievable.. !
Love the music.
Here because... Tomcats!
Great remix, Ralfi (even if it's from 2 yrs ago...).
One can only hope that we eventually get an A-7 in DCS, too.
Roosevelt, Tomcat's last cruise made me emotional AF :[
Awesome choice of soundtrack, period correct!
@ralfi Kudos Could you ever make more of these there just Golden !
Such a massive aircraft..

The aim 54 is capable of locking multiple targets at the same time
waiting for that Aircraft in DCS :)
No matter if you are a fan of chinese Aircraft, Russian Aircraft Swedish aircraft...., you just gotta love the F-14 no matter what
Just to awsome!!! Good old Jolly Rogers who deosnt love em?

I love the Final countdown its my favorite movie
I thought you got access to the DCS f14 module. I was like sumofabeach.
Who knows what the future holds ;)
sumofabeach!
exxxcellent! The New Retro Wave music fits perfect IMHO, sure we would like to hear Kenny Loggins but this works too.
damn... I had not noticed till now how big this plane is.... freakin' huge wing span
Thanks I almost had a heart attack I thought it would be some alpha DCS F-14 footage.
love it. MORE ! MORE ! MORE !
The Music is awesome!
Wow, didn't expect to see clips from The Final Countdown. I was always bummed they never got to show the Nimitz fleet fighting the IJN fleet.
This jet is the sexiest ever and will always be my childhood hero
Do you guys recomend any good pc setups that can run DCS pretty good for around 500 or 400 dollars?
Can`t wait for the DCS version!
Tomcats and moustaches, I love it!
Also I have seen this before, This is where the USS Enterprise (I think was the CV in this Movie) is sent back in time. Was a good, short, but good movie :D
One of the greatest aviation movies ever. Top Gun had playing with the boy, Final Countdown had F14s playing with Zeros..
I rest my case. :P
Was a sad day when they
retired those birds. Tomcats last cruise was a heart breaker.
The final countdown is such a good movie
One word: Classic
LOVE this movie. Splash the Zeros
i wonder if the pilots had the feeling they were flying something special, something that would become legend and an icon and not just another day in the cockpit ?
Even nearly 42 years after its introduction, the Tomcat still looks so fuckin cool.
ElFamosoDemon is that you?!
Nice vid
Love the video man :)
Question for you smart people: F-14 vs F-15, which is better? Was the F-15 an upgrade, or are they simply different like the F-15 vs F-16?
I think the F-15 is superior but still in love with F-14
They were both made for different purposes one, was a carrier multi role fighter the other was a air superiority fighter. F-14 in some tests did receive faster speeds, but F-15 was more maneuverable.
I see! Thanks for the answers :)

The F-15 was a dogfighter that could act as a missile platform.
The F-14 was a missile platform that could dogfight.
i just love the tomcats :))) they were the favourites planes fo me :)
Holy fuck this movie sounds awesome. "The Final Countdown is a 1980 alternate history science fiction film about a modern aircraft carrier that travels through time to the day before the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor."

Depends which version. I can't remember if we get the upgraded ones or not for this DCS model.
Both.
Man Ralfi, these graphics look great! Were they free?
